I know for a fact that I'm going to get shot down by many here for this post, but this is my perspective on what is quite clearly the strategy of the owner and his team. Promotion was never the goal this season; I accept the urgency many have attached to promotion, but it was never the case for the board.

They are building the base, and building for the future, which in my mind, in these days of FFP, is shrewd. Our style of football this year, has been worth watching, not the "sideways, sideways, back to keeper" dross, or "go long" carp we've had over too many seasons. The infrastructure of our great club has been addressed, and corrected, and everything can't happen over night.

As Leeds fans, we are not the most patient, but the right steps have been taken, and we are moving forward the first time in over a decade. Have a little more patience, and we will all be where we want to be. MOT.

Which of our 20 odd building for the future players we have boyght will be prem league class next year when the 8-9 bought in this year are 99% league 1 standard?

Bright Promotion is the goal but like Cellino we may have another water into wine merchant in Radz. The development squad needed addressing but that has received too much focus recently. We need 3 or 4 good old-fashioned British Isles pros.

Promotion this year must be our aim but interwoven with this, the need for a long term strategy. Hopefully the players bought recently are being nurtured and assesed out of the spotlight and, if we don't go up this year, are the basis of a proper go next season. So far I am with Radz and will not unfurl my "out" banners just yet. In fact I am quietly optimistic of a tilt this year but am already eager for next season to start.

Radz never said that was our aim for this year, he just said we would be looking at bettering last year and that could be interpreted many ways. I would guess from what is happening that we are more interested in building for the future than promotion immediately. If we develop our own talent in 2-3 years we could have a great team that didn't cost the earth and they will likely be able to continue developing into the Prem when we get promoted. wouldn't be surprised if the actual aim was 2-3 years for promotion rather than this season.

I kind of agree with you Brightwhite. My mate and I had this conversation after the Forest game. Radz is doing all the right things off the field and if it did take a season or two to go up, we would be ready commercially for the Premier League. I do despair with our football sometimes. We can look great one game and average the next, but that's football. As Ausman states we do have a lot of players who aren't Premier league standard. What worries me there is a lot of them are on 4 year deals. We have a new left back, which was a priority. I do think we are a good striker away from staying in the top 6, so fingers crossed

Exactly the point I was trying to make Alf. Of course promotion this year would be a bonus, but the investment made by Radz to date, has not been aimed at delivering that goal. Everything has been targeted at creating financial stability for the club as a business, and developing a team for the future, whilst remaining competitive on the pitch to remain in or around the play offs.

Bright I'm not Ausman thank heavens but my choices are Lonergan, Peacock-Farrell, Anita, CBJ, Denton, Sacko, PML, Grot and Wilks.

I agree this squad will need additions to be able to cope on the PL but let's be honest, how many of Huddersfield's squad would you have named as being able to cope in the PL but they aren't doing that bad at the mo. You never know who may surprise us!

Great post bright and good contribution Alf. For the first time in years I'm feeling very optimistic about the future. Radz seems have his head screwed on and knows what he's doing off the field. Yes there are some issues on the field and yes they might have rolled the dice on a few of the players that have been brought in but that to me is the nature of the beast, at least they're giving it a good go and building well for the future! In 3 years if we're holding our own in the PL it will have been worth not going up this year/having the perfect squad right now.

Totally agree O Leary. Better to go up and stay up than to yo-yo I think.
