For many years I have argued vehemently that a League competition should never be decided on by an end of season lottery. There is no sporting justification for the play offs. It is purely a money grabbing, financial one. There is no inate fairness in a team that has proved itself over a long hard slog over differing pitches in changeable weather being denied by a team who have only hit form in March/ April or bought wisely in January.
No the only people who truly prosper from the play offs are the EFL (and the winners) . It should not be that the team who could only manage to come sixth should have the chance to steal the riches of the Premier League from the team who has fought its way over a long season to the third position. A team in sixth position is there for a reason. There are five teams more deserving. We should not have a situation where a league contest is decided by a Cup Final, potentially also decided by a flukey goal against an injury ravaged team. I am sorry if this is a rant but a team who is the third best in the Championship should have its just reward and no, this is not because of our position now, I have felt this for years.

I have to agree with everything you say, the playoffs, when they started, were valid. They were introduced to reduce the number of teams in the PL, it's well past time they were done with. (and I'm not just saying that because of where we may finish) sorry for the condensed history lesson, but there may be kiddies about that don't know 😁😁.

I love the playoffs. Don't really like losing in them but the idea is brilliant and its a great showpiece. Why not give the team in 6th the opportunity to go up? It keeps it interesting for all those teams below 3rd or 4th for much longer and keeps the league much more competitive. The team in 3rd will always complain about it but what if you are the team in 6th?

Btw we are not guaranteed 3rd yet so that wouldn't necessarily be us anyway.

Sorry Alf usually agree with your thoughts but its a league not a knockout cup. The only reason it exists is to make more money for a few people and the only people who care are the 4 teams taking part. Everyone else could care less. Why give the sixth best team over a season the chance to go up with a flukey goal of the defenders backside. I know it's a much tainted word but is that Fair after 46 games?

With you Leodis. What also happened to playing against one of the teams facing relegation!? As we are in 3rd, I’d definitely scrap the playoffs today!
