Defense is a huge worry for me. We weren’t good enough last year and we have sold our best defender and brought in an unproven CB who has never played this high a level. Cooper is awful and Berardi a time bomb. If we don’t strengthen I can see big issues in this area.

Alf, think we are likely to bring one more CB in but I suspect we bought Loaned White to play and Struick, still developing but brings a lot of the qualities we are looking for height, strength, physicality and can play with the ball. Those two could ease some of the worries if they take their opportunities!

Spanish I've got to hand it to you . Even if the world was ending you would look to find positives . Ajeyi going to Brom for a song . False links to Chester . There is every likelihood we will go into the season with what we’ve got . Too weak in the two most important areas of the pitch, up top and central defence to have serious automatic credentials . We will play some lovely football to sell out crowds . We will have some great results and performances.

But the same old Achilles heels of not taking our chances and conceding soft goals will torture us through out the season . Finally the fans might realise Bielsa is not god and can’t be trusted . If we don’t sign a quality CB and find a physical striker to bully defenders and win us tight games, then it’s just as much on him as Radz . As you yourself have said he set the terms for Bielsa 2 .

hate the team of the year argument, firstly cooper is not good enough not been for years now, decent yes, promotion quality no, look at sheff utd game as prime example

but let's say team of the year is a great arguement, pontus also made that team so we need to replace one of the best two centre backs in the league, so in that sense white singing is cover to make sure we don't have to play phillips a midflieder, beradi and aling both right backs in centre back

finally if the team of the year is true why did we lose to so many carp teams last year, only team ipsiwch put three past last year, wigan etc. team of the year my backside.

Slrry but team of the year means nothing, nice to have your name on it but put a different selection panel in and you have a different team. We def need a CB but doubt if we are getting one unless another young loanee is available. With the transfers we have done although a lot of fees are not divulged going on the guesswork we have brought in around 19mil. That is not including any fee we got for Sacko, Rey, Halme. For me some of that should be spent on a CB or we have not enough cover at the back. Think we are resigned to probability that will not happen.

Doesn't mean we don't read your posts. Doesn't mean that we don't agree with some of what you write.

It just normally gets lost in the white noise of constant negativity.

And of course it's all Radz fault because he doesn't have unlimited wealth.

And of course its Ortas fault because he is a mere mortal, working within budget constraints.

And of course its Bieslas fault because he is only improving players that weren't seen as good enough just a year a go.

It not your fault. because you don't do anything. just moan.

I don't think Spanish, or anyone else, would say no to a dominant premier league centre back. Or may be a goalscoring centre forward. But if Leeds can't afford one then so be it. We support who ever is lucky enough to be handed the shirt, not harp on about things we have no control over.

i am a moaner and normally agree with wex however i do disagree

i think we got a good chance of top six, espically if we get in a defender

the trouble is top six is no good, mr mrs has got more chance of dropping back down to a size zero than leeds have winning a play off

my anger is this, last year we should of gone up but didnt, this year is a great chance to build on third and go up but instead we seem to be taking a step backwards i think we will finish top six but that won't cut it

then next summer we lose shacks to spurs for 25 quid and are still left with cooper and beradi as first pair centre backs.

I am of the belief that if Bielsa wanted another centre back we would have one by now. I think Bielsa is stubborn and he has decided that White and Cooper are our starting pair and if we get injuries across the back 4 then Berardi (centre back) , Dallas (RB) and Alioski (LB) will be our cover. It was part of our undoing last season and probably will be this season.

Thanks Axe, yes happy to have a World Cup winning, super physical, extra tall, ball playing CB but also quite like us to give White and Pascal a go as we have them already. Or buy someone else, don’t play White or Struick, send white back after paying his wages for a year and then let Struick go because he wants first team football. Great use of resources!

Again, Notts is probably correct. Don't think the physically dominating no-nonsense central defender is Bielsa's cup of tea. The problem is Bielsa's personality clash shall be our undoing. An injury or a suspension and we're into the dross. Cooper is also likely to make at least one howler per fixture. Hoping we make a good signing.

Spanish - I'd also like to see White and Struijk get significant game time, just concerned that Cooper is still seen as our first choice CB, and when he is almost inevitably injured (with our luck) or suspended we're still left with only makeshift cover for our two remaining (and inexperienced) CB's. - which would be fine if we were aiming for upper mid-table with the possibility of scraping top 6, and aiming to have a real go at promotion next time around. However that was the scenario for last season, which will almost exceeded - we're supposedly aiming for automatic this time.

Maybe, just maybe, a White/ Struijk partnership will ace this season - and I would be ecstatic if that was the case as I really rate both of them - but as we all know the Championship is a long and unforgiving slog. I'd feel much more confident of our chances if we either had someone of an Ajeyi or Bielik mould who could replace Cooper as a regular starter (some might feel that would be hard on him but I don't think he's the type to spit his dummy out (unlike BPF) ) or a Cahill type to cover when needed due to injuries/ loss of form/ suspensions, who might also be offered a mentor/ coaching role to compensate for non-guaranteed starts.

i don't mind struijk playing but my worry is he can't be that good as if so why last year did he not play ahead of beradi and aling (how much has he progressed in a few weeks as beradi played in playoff which was few weeks ago)

also worried if cooper is first choice again means the people behind him are not as good as cooper who is bang average.

Last year was a big year for Struick, I first came across him watching the under 23s from the sidelines injured. Aappo got a head start and I assume Pascal missed the preseason . Later in the year he got in and started to impress. Had a really good spell where he scored 4in 4 I think with the under 23s . He was a striker in a previous life. By the playoffs, Bielsa was picking him for the bench and seemingly discarding Diaz and Aappo. He was part of the Ajax youth set up that I believe forms a big part of the first team now. I suspect at Bristol we will start with Cooper and White and Pascal could get a bench place as Beradi is banned. However I think bielsa is testing Leif out at Christmas because off the bench he could cover two positions. If Cooper is injured or banned he might get a chance playing with White which could be a different combination because of height and physique, we will see.

Is Struik really going to get 1st team football? The team against Man U started with Cooper and Berardi. Currently Davis has had more game time at Centre back than Struik has in friendlies.

Notts, think I’ve written before that it’s difficult to know what Bielsa thinks of Pascal and how ready he is! Didn’t tour and didn’t start against Tadcaster when he could have paired. Perhaps Bielsa wants to try out Davis as it would make for a more flexible bench. I’d just like to see him getting some more football, he’s tall, he’s physical, he plays out with the ball and he scores! Bench against Bristol I hope and on after 15 mins when Cooper gets sent off!

RHC, seriously point for a moment about having a positive outlook. Most of the happy people I know appreciate what they have got and make the most of it. Most of the unhappy people don’t appreciate what they have got and constantly focus on what they haven’t! We’ve got a great manager, we are playing some really exciting football across the teams, we have full houses in Elland road and good crowds at under 23 games and pre season friendlies. Things are actually pretty good. Let’s appreciate the good stuff. People can learn from last year, let’s see if they do. So far for me, we’ve got, Costa who looks good, Clarke rejuvenated and for a full year and Harrison ready to kick on. I’m up for it, I’m delighted I’ve got my seat for the year and I’m going to enjoy it!
