Great result on Saturday to start the season well. For a while I was convinced we had made a huge mistake not getting a decent left back. I was complaining that Struik was all over the place and was struggling. However I realise that pressing tight at time and being very narrow at the back was the manager's plan. In that context Struik had a good game. Christianson took a while to settle but for a player of his physique he was too easily muscled off the ball for their first goal. Redeemed himself with a goal saving challenge later in the game.
Usually when playing narrow on a narrow pitch its because the manager doesn't think his defenders are good enough. Helps a bit but not a lot. On a wide pitch with better quality attackers we will concede a lot. Far too much space out wide. if Wolves were a bit more clinical, had just a bit more quality and messlier wasn't there we would have conceded 3 or 4. Going forward we were quite good and creative and we should score more than last year. - hopefully. Unfortunately if we lose possession going forward we leave so many gaps its far too easy for opponents to exploits. It will be interesting to see how things develop.

Hess Good post. This is why we need more pace and experience at the back. Wish we'd go in for another central defender. Coady would be an upgrade.

It looks like Coady is on his way to FFP abusers Everton.

Exactly OP. Don't know how they can keep getting players when they were £255m in debt over the course of the last FFP cycle.

One rule for one and another for others, Everton’s hierarchy obviously have friends in high places.

George - there are many folk, Wolves fans in particular, who would question whether Coady would be a genuine upgrade for us. The lad moved to Wolves as a CDM, and was subsequently converted into a CB within their long-standing three at the back formation. In the middle of the 2020/ 21 season when they tried to change to a back 4, Coady was apparently found to struggle in 1v1 situations so they ended up playing their full backs narrower to help support the CBs, before reverting to 3 at the back again.

It is apparently enduring concerns about him playing in a back 4 (which Lage wants to use this season) that mean Wolves are content to sell him. With Marsch usually playing 4 at the back and with full back used to provide width up the pitch, we don’t seem to be set up in a way to get the best out of Coady as a CB.

Good post Hess. Our style of play creates big gaps on the pitch that fat and accurate teams can exploit. Saw it at the end of last season and again on Saturday. Faster defenders might help but sometimes players are so out of position that they just can’t get back. I assume the system is that others will cover but that doesn’t seem to be happening all the time yet. Perhaps it’s the Teo central defenders who need to be moving quickly to fill the space or at least one of them.

Everton are 60 million to the good this transfer window so far. Lots of free transfers. Not sure about impact on wages though.
If they got away with it last year they will be fine this year unfortunately.

Cluey Hear what you say but what always impressed me with him was his last ditch tackling and blocking repeatedly saving goals.

There will no doubt be a hundred and one clickbait rumours of Leeds " interested " in signing this and that player BUT Leeds transfers IN for rest of window will be non existent ; indeed " Much Ado About Nothing"

Meanwhile Radz (aka Topol) will be auditioning for the lead role in the latest Wetherby production of "Fiddler on the Roof " having spent very little if anything NET this window his chequebook firmly locked away for yet another year

Ever hopeful but oh so gullible Leeds fans will be awaiting forlornly in each of tbe remaining 22 days of window for that promised LB, CF and the like signing

BUT their hopes and dreams will be cruelly let down by the LUFC BOARD by end of 31 August summer transfer window.

" It Twas ( all ) A Midsummers Night Dream" lads.

I think this would be your preferred Shakespeare Baz.

I have of late, wherefore I know not, lost all of my mirth in the sanctum of Leeds United. And indeed, it goes so heavily with my disposition that this goodly frame the Premiership league, seems to me but a sterile promontory.
I’m not very versed in Hamlet but I’ll try to add a little more another time.
Cheer up Baz, it’ll turn out just fine in the end, you’ll see.

Give it a rest Baz. Why the need to complain again already? We looked good Saturday against a side that finished top 8 and the main thing you wanna post about is complaining about Radz. When the window is up, if we haven't signed anyone then fair enough, have your little moan then.
