Like it or not Berardi; Belusci; Cooper and Taylor are the best back four combination we have. On the question of how many mistakes can you make before you are dropped they all make serious mistakes during the game. Last night for example Berardi did well going forward but made several mistakes during the game one being immediately after Belusci's first (both miskicking a ball in the 6 yard box) - a real comedy of errors. Cooper had one of his better games but still managed to have at least one serious error. Taylor made several errors over the game which resulted him getting a tongue lashing from Cooper. If you drop any of them who would you bring in@ Bamba? I've lost count of the mistakes he makes. It W=would be a disaster if he was brought back. Wooton? Don't think so. He is an accident waiting to happen. As I have said many times we concede due to individual errors and they all make them - some more than others. All you can do is play your best back four, Berardi; Cooper; Belusci and Taylor and hope that we recruit better next season. Bamba and Wooton are not the answer they are part of the problem.

Agree Hesslian, we have three centre backs in Cooper, Bellusci and Bamba who all have the ability to make a serious mistake most games. It becomes a lottery picking the right combination. In regards to Bellusci, he is the most frustrating because he is probably the best centre back we have with the ball at his feet but his decision making is awful. Coupled with his massive ego which makes him believe he is better than he actual is makes him an extremely self destructive influence to the team.

sorry but I honestly think give wooten a chance at center back. lots of people on this site where saying how he imporved, then he was played out of position. I am certain when looking back over the season bell might have the most good games but also have the most ciritical errors by a long shot. also bell plays for himself and his attitude is disgusting. I would drop him for anyone even fat man himself just to shake him up. let bell know he has to improve, concertrate and not prat about. also wootten might impress (he might not be worth a shot even if bad it might improve bell as bell and cooper is best pairing) I also think bell and bamba might be decent. one thing for sure bell is our biggest liability and needs to be punished by dropping for attitude alone.

Agree Hessian, Bellusci can be a liability when he has his mad moments but mainly he's our strongest defender. Haven't seen either of the last two games, so don't know exactly what his cock ups consisted of, but when a player makes a mistake that costs us a goal, it's almost certainly a defender. And as I've said many times before, our position this season is not because we have conceded too many goals or let in too many silly ones - it's because we haven't scored enough imo.
And I agree with comments below about Whelan and Adam Pope. I generally enjoy listening to them, but they have always been very anti Bellusci. I don't agree with dropping a player for a mistake (or two) , especially when there is not an obvious better replacement. I think if Bellusci is dropped for Saturday he will never be able to be picked again (which will make some people happy I know) .
Finally (only on this matter) , I fully support SE for refusing to be goaded into criticising Bellusci in his interview, and refusing to say he will drop him.
We complain that MC might be interfering with team selection, surely we don't want the press picking the team.

How can you say in all honesty Wooton is part of the problems we have at centre half when he has played for us in that position for sometime. I agree with BW we have nothing to lose by giving Wooton a chance to show what he can di in his preferred position. MOT.

Just looking at Wooton's general play, ability in the air and distribution makes the likelihood of him being a reasonable central defender very unlikely. However, to put the matter to bed, once we are mathematically safe, why not give him a go? He might surprise us all. Would SE try that? MC might take exception if it goes wrong.

My thinking is what's the harm in trying out a few different combinations in the coming games. I think we are fairly safe from relegation so it's not like there is much to lose apart from a few places in the league and maybe a bit of prize money associated with that. Although having said that I don't know the difference in how much money you get for finishing 15th as apposed to 19th. Why not try the different players and if they're no good we know to ditch them in the summer.

These set of posts highlight our problem. Central defensively we must select the best of a bad bunch even then it's a struggle to work out who that might be. It reminds me of the time we had to keep on playing Jack Ashurst even though he would persistently get skinned for pace.

Cellino, please buy 3 quality central defenders in the summer otherwise we are relegation certs. Some on here romance about how good it was in League One. I don't particularly want to return there.
