When someone says they promise they are definitely not, it usually means they are but, I promise I am definitely not, sexist. Its just that I cannot get myself to enjoy female football commentators and in light of the decline in viewing figures since Dan Walker left Football Focus then neither are many more. I am sure Alex Scott is a lovely woman and knows a fair bit about football (men/ women? ) but surely it takes the gravitas of a mans voice to get across the deep emotion we all feel on the subject. So come on BBC we know its not her fault personally but if you want to save a sinking ship drag one of the many commentators out of the stan and put him in the studio. Failing that go find Ray Stubbs. Failing that go throw money at Dan Walker. Either way BBC stop being so PC.

Leodis,

It's great that women's football has grown over the years, loved watching my daughter play for many years but. couldn't agree more with you, absolutely detest hearing women commentators. Just something about the pitch of their voice doesn't enhance the spectacle, rather it detracts from it.
I actually think Alex Scott is okay in pundit role but if I'm honest I think it would be much better if women stuck to womens football and left us to it.
But, that's the world we live in where so called equality trumps common sense and few seem able to stand up and say what I'd guess 90% of men would say with regard to the sudden need to include women in the mens game.

Worlds gone mad.
It’s sexist to be a man. Racist to be white. Xenophobic to be English, Scottish, or welsh etc.
I like women’s football tho. Which must just make me a pervert!

To be honest, it’s not the tone that bothers me so much with female commentators; it’s the cr@p they spew sometimes. So on that basis they make the spectacle as unenjoyable (is that a word? ) as listening to most of the male commentators. You can tell they have cribbed up on some pointless fact or link and they try and force it in for “interest sake. ”

I don’t know why, but I cannot listen to Jonathan Pearce…my heart sinks when he’s on.

Notwithstanding that, sat in the hotel bar tonight (before tomorrow’s game) watching the Women’s England v Scotland game with no commentary; what a cracking game. Both England goals, awesome crosses, awesome headers.
