While we are on the subject of goalkeepers. What’s all this about waiting to be closed down before picking the ball up. Cairns is horrendous at it. And all this feigning where you are distributing the ball. Get on with the game. Gets right on my Nelly.

All keepers do it, for two [three?] main reasons:
1) The ball is still in play until the keeper picks it up and so he is under no obligation to release / pass the ball, i.e. the ref doesn't start timing him down [not that they do]. Useful when wasting time, since the ball is in play, but not being played.
2) It drags 1 or 2 opposition players up field, and makes the subsequent local pass easier [although often it doesn't].
3) To bore the pants off fans and the like, as tedious as the silly ball in the corner quadrant rubbish the modern game gives us!

3 is spot on, Ani. 2 rarely. 1. Nah. Boring as bat s***. And childish, may I add. I know it happens all over the pitch in many different ways. But contesting every single throw in foul corner. Screaming when you are fouled or not. Jeez. Play the bloody game.

With you all the way, Aus.
Each generation of footballers is the custodian of the game; this generation of tattooed-laden cry babies should be ashamed of what they are doing to the game.
..The refs as well!
