In the context of players we might aspire to what about Lewis Cook for someone who can control the midfield (and knows Leeds) and Mateta from Palace? Cook probably free and Mateta around 30 or 40.

Cook was a good player, but unfortunately injuries have derailed his career. He was never one to control a midfield either.

Mateta is a good striker, proven in the EPL, but at 29 in a few weeks.. not sure I foresee our owners pursuing him, especially for big bucks.

Also, not sure Mateta would be interested in joining Leeds United.

Whereas, one would think Lewis Cook would be interested in rejoining Leeds United on a free. All good.

Cook was a good young player when we sold him a few years ago, but I don't think he's moved on. What with Ampadu, Longstaff, Tanaka and Stach (plus Gruev if he doesn't go) , I think we're well supplied with that type of player, and it'd make better use of our available funds to fill the gaps we know about.

JR, but if he is available on a free, he is worth considering. It's also feasible that one, two, or even all 3 of (nearing end of contract) Ampadu, Gruev and Tanaka leave this summer.

I do hope that the recruitment team search and recruit for midfield players who are going to score and create more goals.

Our best teams were always awash with plenty of them ..


Bremner, Giles
Strachan, McAllister
Bowyer, Bakke etc.

Bakke scored 21 goals for Leeds United, but yes defo not as good as the other 5 greats I listed.

However, Bakke scored more goals in less appearances than the combined goals and appearances of all of Amps, Gruev, Stach, Tanaka, Longstaff..

We need more goals from midfield players.

I'd take Lewis Cook on a free for 2 yrs, that's it. And, he'd have to accept and expect to be a squad player, not a starter.

I'd be interested to see Bakke's stats on minutes played rather than games.
So many subs nowadays, it's often not comparing apples to apples anymore.

It was 25 years ago.. he must have scored then, some in FA Cups, League Cups and Euro comps, Champions League and UEFA Cup.

But, sure, he was no Lee Bowyer.

Billy Bremner didn't score a vast number of goals, about 90 over 15 years, but his hard work led to loads being scored by other people, and he certainly scared the s*** out of most opposing teams' players.
