VAR is the ruination of the game along with many other
“modern” changes.

It's an improvement, however fallible to human nature and bias.

I believe VAR can be made unnecessary in a large part of its job description with just one tweak of the law. This game is all about goals, so let's say that unless there is clear air between the attacker and defender, then play on.

If there is any doubt, then give the attacker the benefit. That should stop all breaks in play and the ensuing debate. Whilst nothing is infallible, it is infinitely better than wiping out a wonder goal for the sake of a minor body part.

As I said. Better two eyes rather than one. Less corrupt. Harder to be biased.

Better still, get rid of the offside rule altogether. Players would quickly adapt, and there would potentially be more goals. Option 2: limit it to a zone 18 yards from the goal line - ie the edge of the penalty box.

If it is to be retained in any form, look for clear daylight between the players, and judge it on the torso only, thus getting rid of those asinine offside by fingertip or toenail decisions.

The proposed new (old) offside law is going back to an air gap between players. So, unfortunately, there will always be a requirement for VAR to judge if the gap existed or not.

The simplest way to sort out offside is to give the benefit to the attacker if any part of the body is onside. Done and dusted.

VAR shouldn't be involved in offside, because it can never be right without stopping the game every few seconds. The stupid system is that it is only checked if a goal is scored. We have the situation when the linesman's call is accepted if a goal is not involved, and yet they can be wrong.

A goal scoring opportunity is lost, the attacking team loses possession, the game stops, and the defending team is given a free kick and a free opportunity to clear the danger.

VAR should be limited to serious foul play and the goal line, and be done with it. Limiting it to that means the game flow is not interrupted.

I've said it before: using torso only is the way to go. Someone's arms or legs really shouldn't be factored into someone who's moving, as it's random who would be furthest ahead.
