I see we are/have "looked at?"
What happened to Ueda (Feyenord) anf Muniz (Fulham) ?
However, in the grand history of Leeds United, we all know how this will play out,
1) every man and his dog touted for every position
2) Last minute out of nowhere Billy Nobody is declared our
new recruit.

3) Mad Google scramble to find out who the heck he is!
It happens every year.

1.) 19 May 2026 18:59:13
Indeed, Leo, 99.5 % of names rumoured, proposed, suggested, "linked", clickbaited wont materialise at all.

And, there will likely, as usual, be very protracted summer-long rumours of 1 or 2 players who dont end up joining.

The good news is, there will hopefully be a couple of very good surprises that come out of nowhere, of seriously good players. . A youngish, relatively unknown Raphinha type mark 2 would be awesome!

2.) 19 May 2026 19:28:06
I pray your last sentence comes true, Baz.

3.) 21 May 2026 13:58:03
1. It's not the board creating the 'rumours', most of which are bulls***.

2. Most people had to refer to Google to find out who Tanaka, Stach, Gudmonssen, Bijol were, and all have been big hits.

3. For those transfers we had heard of, many fans were critical of DCL, Bogle, Justin, and they've all been great.

Personally, I trust this recruitment team more than any previously.

4.) 21 May 2026 15:53:43
Well said Benny!

5.) 22 May 2026 11:30:09
Do you live in any of the aforementioned countries, Mr Benny?

Anybody any insight into this new name in the frame - Marc Guiu?

leodis

1.) 22 Jul 2025 15:23:29
19 I believe Chelsea 5th choice nice player but not fully proven.

2.) 22 Jul 2025 18:48:05
Neither was Lukaku when he went to West Brom all those years ago

A Chelsea 5th line player would still be a good addition for us at this time. Ampadu wasn't a Chelsea regular but is doing very well for us.

3.) 22 Jul 2025 18:48:06
We're not interested, Guiu will end up on loan in the Champ.

4.) 23 Jul 2025 07:52:35
Lukaku had scored 43 senior goals before joining West Brom, Guiu has 8, would not be a good signing.

5.) 23 Jul 2025 10:26:59
Stick that in your pipe and smoke axe ?.

6.) 23 Jul 2025 20:05:48
Borate. your right.

I wonder how much weight there was to newspaper reports of "Leeds are interested in". I have forgotten some of the recent ones. To see if they resurface. Except for some reason? Diego Luna.
Let's see if we are still interested (if we ever were) .

What do people think of the return of the Prodigal Son?
When he was with us he performed admirably (tho there were some notable detractors) however for the price we would pay and the player we would have to drop he does not now seem the ideal choice. Who could split a Ampadou/ Tanaka partnership. That is not even taking into consideration his average performances in his recent history.
No, for me the Kalvin Philips/ Leeds Utd partnership has had its day and as the old adage goes "never go back*.

Bring KP back.

7.) 19 Mar 2025 00:04:11
I think there's a deal to be done - as ever at the right price.

Is Phillips right now worth the clickbait £20m mooted, absolutely not. Is it true that his best form and performances came for us? Yes. Media have to read the climate too. If he can't get in the Ipswich lineup regularly and is an albatross contract for City, their bargaining power really isn't all that. I'd offer a loan with maybe 40-50% of his wages, and an offer linked to appearances to buy out his final year entirely (about £8m) if a clause of say 25 league appearances is met. If the love/ motivation of playing for Leeds again nets us a player that's 80/ 90% of the one that left its a good deal. City might think they can do better than that, if so good luck to them.

I happen to think Phillips would be an upgrade on Gruev (who has done a lovely job for £5m-but would be found out in Prem) .

I find myself listening and empathising with Demi Lovato's power ballad :

I am dumbfounded by the EFL punishment on Southampton. I do not condone spying but in the grand scheme of things, it's not life threatening. Soton have even admitted to doing it previously and not won that game either!
My only disappointment is the half arsed, unthought-through punishment meted out. Whereas we received a 200k fine, the escalation to being denied a shot at a multimillion pound prize seems somewhat excessive and will lead the EFL and the situation into the murky depths of the law.
Surely a more reasonable punishment would have been a fine (commensurate with which league they will be in) and/or a points deduction.

Surely the current punishment will adversely affect too many innocent parties. The fans and the players. Players who have worked hard to get where they are and had no knowledge of spygate. Players who could have been on Premier wages?
Come on, let's keep it in context. How does it rank against a manager telling his players to "do" the opposition's star player?
Someone even suggested letting them start the game with a 1/2 goal disadvantage.

I know all this was yesterday but I have only just seen it so, sorry, rant over. EFL just beggars belief sometimes.

leodis

1.) 20 May 2026 13:46:26
Whilst I agree with many points Leo, in
particular it makes very little, if any, difference when the game starts, and mostly impacts the Saints supporters and players.

But, rules is rules, especially after the £200k Bielsa fine for unsportsmanlike behaviour led to these hard and fast, widely known rules being implemented in the EFL.

Now it's no different to what Leicester did in terms of breaching known rules and they got away with it. They benefitted significantly, albeit until recently.

Now I've already said it makes sod all difference in the actual game, but they also spied on Ipswich, imagine if in another scenario Saints went up automatically for beating them and Ipswich missed out on promotion, a fine of many many millions would still be disproportionately weak in my humble opinion.

What IF the board, captain etc of Saints were fully aware of this, we don't know the level of detail just now.

What is known, (to date) Hull and Boro have breached no rules by which the Football League is run, so in my opinion that's who should be in the playoff final.

They should have stipulated that any breaches (spying) would result in immediate expulsion, points deduction and fine, and I very much doubt this would have arisen.

If I was EFL supreme I'd be tempted to promote Hull now without a playoff game, and that's not because I think they would be a banker for relegation, but I may be fibbing at this last point.

The bar has been set for evermore by Citeh and still no sanction, and it's the inconsistency with regards the biggest teams that fuels the fire on this subject. Again, in my humble opinion.

2.) 20 May 2026 13:58:31
I think a number of factors make this one unique.

One-off games probably make spying that tiny bit more valuable. Still not condoning it. Furthermore, it's harder to give any other sanction in a cup format. In the league I'd suggest the match is 3:0 for the innocent team, much like if you fielded an ineligible player.

If it was proven systemic, a points deduction might also suffice.

Ultimately, if a rule exists, and the punishment doesn't fit the crime, clubs can ignore it with impunity, undermining the legislature. Yes, we all despise the EFL as Leeds, but without a structure we all agree to abide by, you don't have football. Simple.

3.) 20 May 2026 14:17:22
Didn't the EFL also recently expel a club (Swindon?) in the EFL trophy for an offence.

So a precedent of expulsion has defo been set.

Can't stand Southampton, and they have openly flouted this spying rule not once, not twice, but three times also.

No other punishment fits imo. and integrity of the game is already on the floor in so many other ways.

So, well done the EFL on this occasion.

4.) 20 May 2026 18:48:33
Excellent post, Leo.

5.) 20 May 2026 20:39:54
I think that whilst the punishment seems harsh, they thought they needed to draw a line in the sand to dissuade potential future offenders.
So what were the alternative punishments?
If they played in the playoff final and lost, a points deduction (and substantial fine) would have been fair enough. However, if they won, the EFL would have no jurisdiction to impose points deductions in the PL, and any likely fine would pale into insignificance at the side of the financial benefits accruing from promotion. In that case, potential future transgressors would still be tempted to offend when the club accountants do a cost/benefit analysis and conclude that the risk of a £500K fine against the chance of a £100M payday is a risk worth taking.

With the benefit of hindsight, if their other "spying" offences had come to light earlier, Saints could have been given a 10 point penalty before the playoff teams were decided, in which case they'd have gone down to 7th place, and the real losers here, Wrexham, would have been up to 6th and into the playoffs.
I think the punishment is harsh, but maybe the EFL feel they have no alternative.

6.) 20 May 2026 21:38:30
Excellent post, JR. Spot on.

The punishment might, on the surface, appear "harsh".

But there is no other "punishment" imo that would be fairer and more appropriate in these circumstances.

There must be a strong deterrent.

7.) 20 May 2026 21:48:00
Breaking news, Southampton's appeal against being thrown out of the Championship play-off final for spying has been rejected.

The match will now go ahead on Saturday between Hull City and Middlesbrough.

8.) 20 May 2026 22:01:53
The precedent is now set, and I believe it is the right way to go. Now the EPL have to show the same level of authority towards Citeh!
FA involvement to come soon, to deal with the individuals responsible.

1 person who deserves this kick in the nads most is their captain Harwood-Bellis; for his despicable behaviour toward Bill, and his binoculars celebration for one of their goals.

9.) 21 May 2026 09:43:20
What was he saying to Ayling?

10.) 21 May 2026 12:00:18
Corkey; he was taking the wazz out of his stammer, which Luke reported to the ref, but decided after the game to not pursue further. (Coz Bill is the bigger and better man, and not a weak like Bellis!l)

11.) 21 May 2026 19:18:30
Was thinking it might be that. He wanna hear me after a dozen pints!

19 May 2026 10:41:34
Tessman, "not had a huge impact", "not a key figure"
Lyon says they won't stand in his way if we stump up E15m.
Am I missing something here?

leodis

1.) 19 May 2026 11:21:31
They want some mug to buy him.
We paid top dollar for BA and Weston McKennie was a disaster. I'd stay away from US players. There are better alternatives.

2.) 19 May 2026 13:20:32
Definitely much better alternatives

Marathe and Co.enough with your USA players and coaches

3.) 19 May 2026 14:45:26
I have to agree, let's leave the Yanks alone this window, please.

4.) 19 May 2026 16:36:09
I don't think a specific player nationality is inherently the problem. Brendan gets a 6.5 for me for his Leeds spell. Not a huge success, but far from a flop.
Tyler Adams was effective when he was fit - does that mean I like him now? No.
McKennie was awful for us, but has undeniably turned it around at Juve. He's not a bad player.
The Prem has seen plenty of good American players.

McBride, Dempsey, Friedel, Keller, Howard. Even Tim Ream was decent for a while.

It doesn't mean we should sign Americans with abandon. Tessman, however, sounds promising. He is 6'3, a deep playmaker. He would allow Stach to get further forward. Also, Brentford are alleged to want him, and they rarely make signing errors. That bodes well.

5.) 19 May 2026 17:13:00
US gks have been quite good to good esp Brad Friedel.

But, outfield players, hmm, aim for better imo.

As for coaches, yikes.

6.) 19 May 2026 19:08:58
Baz. ?

18 May 2026 20:48:30
Couple of quid on, Guardiola to Leeds?

leodis

1.) 18 May 2026 21:24:19
He'd probs get us relegated! ??

2.) 18 May 2026 21:31:16
Our transfer budget is light by about £500M for Pep!

3.) 18 May 2026 22:33:19
Summerville is a no thank you from me.

4.) 19 May 2026 01:40:59
Guardiola, no thanks. In any case, we can't afford the players he'd want to sign, and he'd ruin some of those we've already got, like he's done with Kalvin, Grealish, etc.

18 May 2026 13:30:41
At the end of the season now and as everyone says, it's time to splash the cash; however, I would call for a note of caution.
Limit the incomings and most certainly lean to quality over quantity. I feel that taking too many gambles may not only upset the blance of, what is obviously, a tight knit dressing room but in a short period of time give the manager the task of bedding in a large body of new recruits.

As it were, starting all over again.
Whereas integrating, say, 3 new faces, is a much easier project and does not lessen the ethos of the club. A.

leodis

1.) 18 May 2026 13:49:09
100% agreed, Leodis, and I hope, as well as believe, that this is the way we will go. Daniel will want the key additions in key positions, to take us to the next phase, and I really think those positions will be the same as we are all clamouring for too!

2.) 18 May 2026 14:09:36
Attracting quality players over quantity, yes.

With the caveat of keeping it fairly realistic in who we actively pursue.

As we really don't want to waste time again in forlorn summer-long pursuits of players who simply were never going to agree to join Leeds United.

3.) 18 May 2026 15:30:41
Bazaldinho,
This summer is way more important than last summer.

There could easily be 12-15 leave.

Yes, we need 5 quality signings, but also need some freebies, loans, etc. to fill the void of an already threadbare squad.

4.) 18 May 2026 15:40:20
That's a good point, Dave. Getting that balance right is bloody important!

5.) 18 May 2026 15:53:11
Hi, Dave

I do agree this summer window is vitally more important. 5 to 6 quality signings would be fab!

Our owners must definitely not repeat the bad recruitment mistakes of EPL summer windows 21/22 and, indeed, 22/23.

12 to 15 players leaving, you say? 15 would seem too many, imo!

So, Dave, who do you think are the 12 to 15 Leeds United players who will be leaving this summer, then?

I think around 9 leaving is more likely and more realistic.

6.) 18 May 2026 16:28:53
We have to be a more attractive proposition next season given that we have been playing like an established EPL team for the last 6 months. This season, we were one of the favourites to be relegated and, at the same time, we did not have a lot of money to spend.

In my mind, 3-4 key, quality additions are needed. Like I said at the start of this season, hopefully we don't waste money on a goalkeeper since it's the hardest position to recruit for. Really expensive and reputably good keepers have failed disastrously when changing clubs.

Darlow has been perfectly fine [more than adequate] all up.

Ramsdale was excellent for Arsenal, but now can't get a game behind Pope, who, in my opinion, is pretty average despite his plaudits.

All up, this season, we have been about 6 points off a European place and, had we started like we finished, we would probably have made it, again, a much better story than this season.

7.) 18 May 2026 23:19:10
Other than the obvious leavers like Byram, Cairns, Mez etc., I can't see more than 4/5 going, but my powers of prediction are not very accurate, usually.

8.) 19 May 2026 07:34:10
Baz, my thoughts on leavers.
Meslier
Byram
Cearns
Darlow?
Willy
Harrison
Wober
Schmidt
Ramazani
Piroe
Nmecha

Perri?
Struijk?
Bornauw

Don't get me wrong, I don't see them all going, but I do see a vast majority of them gone.

It's a huge summer window coming up.

I can see us going back after Paixao, given Marseille's financial situation.
I can also see the Morita link having some legs, as it's a free transfer to cover Ampadu.

13 May 2026 11:25:01
Regarding recruitment: what can be done now?
I know the window is not open yet but can we, for instance, enter a gentleman's agreement to come just as soon as it does open?
Can we put in place some legally binding agreement to come? Just not register it with the Prem.

What can't we do — agree or just register?
I feel there is certainly money to be saved by gambling early and securing targets before any World Cup appearance.

leodis

1.) 13 May 2026 13:25:42
If I remember correctly the Ed's confirmed you can reach an agreement with club and player to buy but just not register yet. Spose would be at a premium fee.
As someone previously stated. Unless we looking at someone not involved in the World Cup, faff all will happen until after. Unless maybe they have a nightmare World Cup of course.

He sounds top notch but my only misgiving would be; if he is so good why not a starter for 11th placed Fiorentina. Surely they must see his exponential growth.
I hope you are right and he is a gem waiting to be found, we could do with another Raphina. Law of averages says that somewhere out there is some young lad, with it all, waiting to be discovered.

Why?
Not many clubs buy a 35m player one year and want to sell him the next. If true, there must be a story in there somewhere.

leodis

{Ed001's Note - Marseille are in financial difficulties. Their whole 'team evil' concept has flopped badly, with so many off field problems amongst the players (anyone surprised at that?) and they are in a mess. They will need to shed a lot of players.}
