What do people think of the return of the Prodigal Son?
When he was with us he performed admirably (tho there were some notable detractors) however for the price we would pay and the player we would have to drop he does not now seem the ideal choice. Who could split a Ampadou/ Tanaka partnership. That is not even taking into consideration his average performances in his recent history.
No, for me the Kalvin Philips/ Leeds Utd partnership has had its day and as the old adage goes "never go back*.

I think there's a deal to be done - as ever at the right price.
Is Phillips right now worth the clickbait £20m mooted, absolutely not. Is it true that his best form and performances came for us? Yes. Media have to read the climate too. If he can't get in the Ipswich lineup regularly and is an albatross contract for City, their bargaining power really isn't all that. I'd offer a loan with maybe 40-50% of his wages, and an offer linked to appearances to buy out his final year entirely (about £8m) if a clause of say 25 league appearances is met. If the love/ motivation of playing for Leeds again nets us a player that's 80/ 90% of the one that left its a good deal. City might think they can do better than that, if so good luck to them.
I happen to think Phillips would be an upgrade on Gruev (who has done a lovely job for £5m-but would be found out in Prem) .

Well done lads. On stats we should have lost but we battled and drew. That was the difference, we dug in did the dirty (not that, you know what I mean) stuff, while they struggled with the pretty stuff. I am mightily proud of my team today BUT can someone please ask Bijol - WHY?

Surely the 49rs battle plan is clear now.
Spend little (or nothing) in the winter and take a (massive) gamble that we stay up. Then splash the cash? in the summer, when prices are lower and choices are higher. It's one hell of a decision and if it works thay are a genius - but if it doesn't! .
As well as gutting the supporters they are committing Hara-Kiri with their bottom line.

It's a measured gamble Leo, you could also say splashing the dosh is a massive gamble with your bottom line, if it doesn't work its financial carnage if you are relegated. All I would say is that during our run in December we were very happy with the players we have. Why all of a sudden are they not good enough or capable to deliver the goods?

If a club burdens themselves with massive signings and wages, then gets relegated, it can sink a club for years and decades.
Whereas, if you have cash and go down, you can pretty much buy the cup.

I think vid that it’s the performance in the last two games. The tactics and substitutions. Old habits that didn’t do well at begining of season, creeping in. The players have proved they are capable.

He also mentioned the 4 positions we all know need improving.
A lot of contradictory remarks.

I don't know the state of our finances and how close to the PSR limit we are, none of us on this forum do, but if I had to choose between a new signing and the risk of sanctions like points deductions or no new signing at all, I'd choose the latter every time.

Whilst it would be nice to go and get a class striker I feel that the money would be better spent getting grit for our midfield. We have Amps, doing a sterling job but he needs help, and I feel Gruev is left wanting in the engine room.
I would like to see money spent on a ball winning "enforcer" who has the skill to, not only win the ball but get his head up and play it forward. 5 yards or 50 yards I don't care but just get me a Norman Hunter mk2.
