Happy Joseph didn't start for Spain the other night, keep him fresh for Leeds.
Absolutely delighted he scored! The lad should be full of confidence now after 2 goals in 2 games.
Hard to believe he's only 20 as he plays with such a maturity.
Wouldn't it be great if he could score 20 plus league goals this season barring injuries?

I'd be happy with 15 plus?
Main thing is he keeps performing as a proper number nine as he has done so far.
Early days I know but the lad has talent and seems to have a great attitude.

Brenty will no doubt be loving the media attention he likely receives for this match

as Canada " coach" against his native USA for whom some speculate he may at some point in future be USA coach

Canada are a better team than USA. so predict a win even with Brenty.

The floodgates are opening! After Joseph scored last week, he's scored again tonight for Spain u21. Brilliant movement in the box once again. Lovely finish. Defenders finding it really hard to track him in the box. His anticipatory skills are top notch. He so good at finding the space or beating a defender to the ball. A quality CF trait.

Is it though? In contract, he’s worth more to the club and can attract a transfer fee if and when he leaves. He’s just turned 31 and would be a free agent at the end of the season otherwise. I doubt this is about keeping him, though if he returns to fitness / form, why not? I doubt he will be on the same terms; this is about maximising his value to the club.

07 Sep 2024 09:24:45
There is a way in which it could make sense. He’s currently the highest earner at the Club, which makes absolutely no sense, given that he’s hardly playing, and on such a high wage no-one would be interested in taking him off our hands at any time in the next 2 years. The lad may be content taking a significant pay cut in exchange for the security of a longer contract.

This could free up some wages for an additional striker in January, either permanent or on loan. If Bamford can find some fitness he could either still be an asset in the rest of this season or, if we do bring in a ‘replacement’, another club might take him loan perhaps paying half of his now lower wages. In the summer, it’s possible again another club could take him on loan on a similar, or better, basis depending on his fitness and form. If somehow he gets into a vein of fitness and form, someone may even take him from us permanently given his reduced wage level.

Bottom line is that as things stand, we’re paying a huge wack to the lad every week whatever his fitness and form is for this season and next, so it’s probably worth rolling the dice, at least to increase the chance of the financial/ fitness/ form odds falling more in the Club’s favour.

Agree2 0Disagree

07 Sep 2024 12:02:13
Now I’m confused.
It’s better paying him less money for longer rather than nothing from 2026?
That would have to be a big big drop in pay.

Agree1 0Disagree

07 Sep 2024 12:27:29
According to the Athletic again reported i'm May 2034 all Leeds players upon relegation had to undergo a 50% to 60% wage cut.

As such Bamford is on somewhete between £28, 000 to £35,000 . equates to around £3 million remaining wages of 2 years remaining on his contract.

Bamford is 31, he will be 33 at the end of his contract . he is already well, well past his physical best

He has had numerous different injuries over a very troublesome past 3 years

It seems very highly likely he will continue to have extensive injuries and physically deteriorate further
.

So hoping for another club to pay any transfer fee for PB is folly, pie in the sky VERY wishful thinking indeed . never, never happening!

Really George, given your response to my friendly advice, on present form perhaps you should change your handle to Oscar Wilde.

But seriously, I had no intent to wound you dear friend, merely to offer you a chance for a little self-reflection, and if that wounded you, that’s on you.

Of course, away from this forum you may be a learned, wise, kind and considerate fellow, with GIW being a persona you create for a little jovial relief. However, rest assured that when on occasion you send a waspish barb towards another on this forum or elsewhere, whether it hurts your target or not, you wound yourself, for the intent was there. Take a little more time in self reflection, and maybe learn to like others a little more, then you might find you actually like yourself a little more too.

Never said you were self-loathing George, you never give any impression of that - just that if you tried to like others a little more, you may actually find you like yourself to a greater extent - and even if you don’t (at least to begin with) you might find others like you more than they do at the moment - so you win either way.

If you just continue as you are doing, more fool you, it’s your loss. Pity is, by acting as you are you’re helping to drive some great contributors off this site, making it a poorer place for all of us.

This is a banter site demonstrable by the name Leeds Banter. I take it all in good jest. Berm - the comparison is only in reference to the Oscar Wilde’s supposed quip to US Customs - variously phrased in its ‘reporting’ but along the lines of “I have nothing to declare but my genius”.

Other than that there is absolutely no comparison between the authentic genius wit of Wilde and anything I’ve read of George’s on here.

And George, don’t try to pull that one, you reap what you sow - sometimes your frequent sniping prompts others to lower their standards and snipe back. But in all seriousness, guys, lay off poor George, what did he ever do to offend anyone. No, really George, I do actually pity you - why put so much effort into trying to put others down and pointless attempted point scoring? It’s not clever, it’s not actually funny, it’s just rather sad, and very demeaning - of yourself that is. And if you can’t see that, you really are a fool.

Agree6 0Disagree

08 Sep 2024 01:02:04
Come on then Clu

1) So when did George declare he was a 'genius ' Clu?
(I don't recall him ever referring to himself as a genius! )

and

2) so whom Clu in your opinion do you actually consider ( if anyone ) on here has an ( Oscar Wilde) natural aptitude for wit!?!

or 3) even a poster with just some aptitude for wit Clu?

Agree2 0Disagree

08 Sep 2024 07:17:11
George has professed his own miracle level intelligence, memory capabilities, and eloquence on many occasions Baz, something you quite clearly missed, in a similar way that you can’t see how dross his attempts at wit are, how pathetic his efforts at belittling others are, how disrespectful he is to serious matters that others post about, and what a fight he faces managing his small man syndrome in almost every post he makes.
I normally believe that you can’t judge a person until you actually meet them face to face, but he is the exception, as he portrays his diminutive character very well with his disrespectful, childish and pathetic attempts to seem better than anyone else in here.

Hmmm yet on Leeds Livechat Bright. you and George get on swimmingly?

Agree2 0Disagree

08 Sep 2024 13:44:07
Bright Don't recall professing the things you allege except for my memory. I've made it clear for instance I regard Dill, Clu and Baz as better posters than I.

Don't recall belittling serious matters (such as heartache, illness or death) . I have posted many RIPs for instance of former players no longer with us.

I accept you don't care for my dark humour. CC (another poster I rate very highly) has commented in the past about how my humour pleases some but offends others, perhaps a greater number. That's an observation I certainly accept but advancing the notion I make light of serious issues isn't accurate at all.

You clearly have a problem with me and that's fine but you are prone to exaggeration at least where I'm concerned. Don't really have a solution for you but given your friendliness in the live chat last week (which I correctly suspected at the time was fake) you might want to re-think your own far from stellar sincerity and unnecessary over the top attacks if nothing else. You can hate me all you want but don't see why you can't just keep that to yourself for the most part.

Baz - It seems to have escaped your notice that my previous post was seeking to reassure our mutual friend Berm that I was in no way actually suggesting that George’s contributions to this forum were in any way comparable with the output of one of heroes Oscar Wilde, who was indeed a literary titan, with a legendary wit.

You seem to be trying to suggest that in doing so I intimated that in my opinion nothing George posted on here was witty/ amusing, and I did not, as some of his posts have been witty, as have some posts from many other contributors, including yourself. It’s just a pity that Sometimes you seem to make the mistake of seeing things in a very black and white manner, whereas in life most things aren’t like that but rather in different shades of grey

Talking of shades, George, let’s be clear, there is a very distinct difference between dark humour and personal insults on a forum, which the purveyor believes to be humorous.

The former is genuinely humorous, being a form of black humour (addressing TOPICS which are generally taboo for comedy, such as death and war) but in an absurd/ grotesque way - although sometimes black and dark humour are seen merely as interchangeable terms in referring to comic treatment of taboo subjects.

Personal insults are just insults, whether the purveyor and those of like mind find them funny or not.

Hi Clu an interesting well written post . BUT

So really there was no logic nor sound reasoning from you Clu to suggest George change his handle to Oscar Wilde as :

1) George at no point has stated he is a " genuius " and nor has he ever perceived himself as a genius .

and

2) as you state yourself Clu in your opinion " there is absolutely no comparison in wit between Oscar Wilde and George"

So more red herrings from you Clu . not red flags this time at least 🤣.

Agree2 0Disagree

08 Sep 2024 19:26:27

Baz, please note that the quote attributed to Wilde is not a claim to be A GENIUS - there is more than one meaning and use of the word genius - look it up. As I said before - don’t look at things in black and white, stuff is rarely that straight forward. When you embrace the grey world you might argue a little less and learn a little more, which is a win win all round. And no, I’m not getting at you, I’m genuinely trying to be helpful to a fellow Leeds fan.

A lot of talk from fans and media about the 49er’s coming up short in the summer transfer window.
I don’t know how anyone can make a judgment on that until the end of the season to see whether we are promoted or not.
From a business aspect and a recruitment one, it could be a spectacular sensation?
Certainly we will be in a very healthy financial situation, you would assume with PSR looming over every club.
I will say also that the Premier League officials will be looking to smash any club now after being left with egg in their faces by Leicester, you can see that one coming.

On another note I hope Gnonto’s injury last night with the Italian U21’s isn’t serious.

Rather than the EPL ( unprofessionally and vindictively ) looking to smash a club because of egg on face re Leicester

OP. well last seasons windows Summer 2023 and particularly Jan 2024 showed that SF49ers recruitment came up short!

Both Ipswich AND Southampton cleverly recruited some excellent players in Jan and that was the difference in them getting promoted.

Jan 2025 window is gonner be very IMPORTANT to hopefully get over promotion line this time for LUFC.

Aus, Burnley’s transfer window was all over the place if you want to compare.
Blades wanted too much for Hamer a Champo player, paying more than what a player is worth is not good business.
Its pretty clear to me that Leeds Utd’s valuation of Hamer was not the same.
Looks like you possibly under rate Joseph also, it is also possible that we may go back in for him in January?

Of course the EPL are at fault for leaving a loophole, but they are not going to admit that and they will be stamping down on any clubs who want to abuse the rules thinking the EPL have lost control with loopholes everywhere by dealing out heavier penalties than before. There appears to be no guidance as to how points are dealt out either.
I wouldn’t be surprised if the EPL will be scrutinizing Leicesters future accounts with a lot of interest and venom.

I genuinely think that the squad is better overall. We have decent options off the bench now. We were overrelaint on two extremely good players last season and now the burden is spread across more players, so also a plus, for me.

How things unravelled is another story, but I'm pretty optimistic about things this season now. Whereas a few weeks ago I thought we were in the mud. Funny old game that can change at the drop of a hat.

I heard Niel Redfearn say that he is way too good for the Championship and even in his first game for us against Hull, it looked like their defenders were trying to tackle smoke. He’s strong and skillful and a player that leads by example and I’m sure that’s going to rub off on the other players.

As I’ve already mentioned, the main concern is that he stays fit, if he does then he will be the main reason that we get promoted this season, in my opinion.
