Was it a red card last night?
Originally I thought it was harsh but having seen it again today, he definitely had a hold of his barnet longer than a split second, which Carrick said.
What a fantastic first half performance! Second half we did what we always do and sat back inviting pressure and in the end were a little fortunate to get the three points.

In saying that we thoroughly deserved the win.

Agreed, Corkey. Like you, my first thought was that it was harsh, and that I'd have been very annoyed if it had been given against us, but a second look showed it was right. I really hope they appeal it and are told to #### off.

{Ed025's Note - you cant pull peoples hair JR it was definitely a red card, this is not 6 year old girls playing in a school playground its supposedly finely tuned athletes competing with each other mate, they will be giving each other Chinese burns next..

I know what you mean - it's one of those where I'm trying to be objective, it's a lot harder when it happens in our favour against Manchester United. I think it's a problem with the way the rules are written. Under the letter of the law it probably is just a red card, but I don't want to see red cards given for that.

I think there was a similar incident in the Spurs - Sunderland game with Porro and Brobbey. Joustling and Brobbey's elbow ended up in Porro's face. Everyone screams "it was a red, an elbow!", but it wasn't thrown, it was just a case of two guys in close proximity. A yellow was absolutely the right call for Brobbey.

I don't think there was enough malice in the Martinez pull, he knew what he was doing though. A foul, and if you really wanted, show him a yellow. But the law means it's a red. It's a problem with the law, the interpretation of it, or the lack of flexibility with it.

I hate arguing a case for Man U, but with all that's gone against us recently, I try and be as objective as possible. Were we lucky yesterday? I don't know if we were lucky as such, I thought we were the better team 11 vs. 11 anyway. But I think it's fair to say they were a bit unlucky.

Carrick looked like he was about to burst into tears in his after match interview.

It's like spitting, players spit all the time during a game to clear their phlegm. But you do that on another player, you will be sent off.

Carrick has got nothing to say, he's just racked off, his team lost.

Defo red. Rules is rules! No one is conned by the dirty git acting all innocent; he knew exactly what he was doing!

100% Ed 25. Pulling hair. What a woofda. Should be ashamed of himself. And then walking off in dismay making pulling gestures. Hilarious. Dead pan red.

{Ed025's Note - hes just a dick head Aus..

Not disagreeing with you Ed. When I first saw a brief clip online last night I wasn't sure if Martinez had pulled DCL's hair or just brushed it, but having had a better look today I think the ref and VAR got it right.

{Ed025's Note - absolutely JR, we have seen Joao Neves and Michael Keane sent off for it mate...what was the idiot thinking?..

You can see he pulls hard enough to move DCL's head back, so clearly he didn't 'just brush' his hair.
He wasn't trying to hurt him, as he didn't pull that hard, but 100% did pull his hair, which is a red. Very stupid of him TBH.

I think we were fortunate that DCL wasn't penalised in the lead up to the first goal..

Hair pulling is like raising hands to strike or push someone in the face. You just cannot do it. Headbutts are the same; any sort of movement towards another is a red card.
The thing is Martinez did not need to do it. It was a challenge in midfield; no one benefited from it.

I know last night was soft and may not have had force behind it, but another time, if a player's head is yanked by the hair, it could result in neck or head injuries.
If players do something that is a straight red, then they cannot blame others when it's given as such.
