OP stated on an earlier thread that we missed numerous chances against Sunderland and I replied I can't remember any. He then sarcastically said maybe I choose not to remember.
I really can't be arsed to re watch the game as I hate afternoon napping, but can anyone remind me of the numerous times we opened up Sunderland on Tuesday evening and the many chances we squandered?

We didn't!

I can remember lots of chances to pass the ball forward that we didn't take, and passed it backwards.

We had three good chances to score a goal. How many do you want against opposition playing a low block and pushing the rules to the limits?

I have to say, on our supporters' coach on the way home, the general opinion / disappointment was the lack of any clear cut chances for us in the game. Playing only DCL upfront and two defensive midfielders, against a weakened, out-of-form opposition, was where the fault lay.

Chances are going to be thin when you play against a well organized low block formation that was also very aggressive.
Farke said in his after-match interview that he wanted his players to meet Sunderland's aggression, but they didn't, and we lost the game.
I'm agreeing with him. We should have played with more ferocity. We needed to play dirty and win at all costs.
I don't particularly like us playing that type of football, but sometimes you have to meet fire with fire.

Kinda hoping it was a blip. Players looked jaded, no energy that we showed against Citeh, but I fear we have to look at the setup, no rotation at all after a hard game/different oppo. At ER, playing 2 defensive midfielders with DCL lone up front shows a certain intent. No reactive subs again. Adjust at half time? Nah. Throw all your attacking options on in the last 15 when time is ticking and the chance has gone? Shades of DF reverting to the pre Citeh first game.
You can bang on about possession, but if you play tippy tippy, non effective football with it, you get nothing. May as well have had the players knitting or doing a colouring book. Many of our positive results have been with less possession than the opponent. Really pray DF is not trying to take one point a game to the line, because that has disaster written all over it.

Vid, I agree. What we saw was a return to his play-safe dogma. Teams must love it when we start that, as they know we are toothless
It needs to stop, or we are down.

Agree, Vid. Disastrous selection and tactics. You could see from the get-go, it was tippy tappy time again.

The match stats say that we had 70% possession, 4 shots on target, 5 shots off target, 9 blocked shots, 9 corners, and xG 1.15. Sunderland's comparable stats were 30%, 1, 0, 2, 2, and 0.66. It didn't feel like that tho.

And having the most certain pen I've seen for years turned down didn't help. That was after only 16 mins, as we all know goals change games. If that'd been given and converted, their whole game plan was trashed and they'd have either had to come out more and leave more space at the back, or settle for defeat.

Expectations of this Leeds United team are unrealistically high to some on here. We just lost two games at home. One was against one of the biggest teams in Europe; we played well and were very unlucky to not get a result in that game. The other, we beat on the pitch, playing football, but were very unfortunate to lose the game.
That's football, and sometimes you do actually lose some games.
I just don't understand the mentality of some fans. One minute we're playing great football and the next we've reverted to playing like a bunch of school boys.
Smacks of unrealism and perhaps a sense of arrogant entitlement.

Nothing to do with expectation, OP, merely a comment on what I witnessed and questioning how they were set up and the in game management. Exactly, 2 defeats on the bounce at home means Sunday suddenly becomes more important to prevent 3 defeats at ER in 9 days, because that would be a real momentum buster.

You're dead right OP, many of us have high expectations for our club whereas some like your good self spout stuff like it's our first season back up, Sunderland spent way more than us, and we're a bunch of unrealistic, entitled fans.
So what if it's our first season back up? We have a team capable of mid table and might finish there yet. Yes Sunderland spent 60% more than us but they had to as they were so far off last season.
And by the way they don't have better players than us! Better manager maybe?
The Tuesday game was a terrible performance not helped by the manager's tactics and obvious team selection. If saying this makes me entitled and arrogant, well I'd rather be that than someone so naive.

That's fine, Cork, that is your opinion; however, I would straight off have five players from Sunderland right now at Leeds to play first-team football.
That is not to downgrade who we have already, as I believe Farke and his coaching staff have improved many of our players. Not only that, he has got them to work very hard as a team, which is exactly what we need to stay in this league.
As far as individual quality, Sunderland, in my opinion, have many better players in quality.
I'm really proud, as a Leeds fan, of the fight that the coach and the players are putting up consistently in their massive effort to stay in this league.
Finishing mid table, in my estimation, is a fanciful dream which only pours disappointment and frustration onto fans who are demanding this standard unnecessarily.
Try being a Spurs fan. Now there's a dysfunctional team that has no fight in them.

Good post, OP, but name me the five Sunderland players who would start in our team? Their keeper ?, and Xhaka definitely, but I can't think of anyone else.
You mentioned Brobby the other day, but DCL has twice the amount of goals.
So, cmon, OP, name the 5 who would walk into Leeds' first eleven?

If we had beaten Sunderland, as you suggested we should have (numerous missed chances, you claimed) , then we would be 3 points behind them and just 6 points off ninth place.
That's hardly a million miles from mid table, and a fanciful dream, is it?
