I see we are looking at 17 year old boy wonder Kean, currently playing as a striker for Verona. With a strike rate of.1 in 7? Unless they know something, it doesn't seem to be the immediate answer to our striking problem.

Sorry, All Together Now, "one for the future"

2.) 14 Jan 2018 20:19:30
The future’s bright, the future’s WHITE

3.) 14 Jan 2018 21:36:39
I wonder who the agents are behind all the 'ones for the future' signings and how much they are making from these deals?

4.) 15 Jan 2018 19:07:00
I bet these agents don’t have to wait to be paid in the future, like we have to wait for success!

Maybe TC is looking ahead and trying to protect Shaughnessy and from Shaughnessys view point maybe he is well out of it but; is it time to give the lad another go. The old adage if they're good enough they're old enough may apply. Trouble is who the heck do you pair him with?

leodis

1.) 07 Nov 2017 08:29:24
Leodis I see what your doing there and I have to say it nearly tricked me! But I'm too old and am not coming out of retirement to nurture a young Un they Will have to find someone else.

2.) 07 Nov 2017 08:39:10
Lol. that's the first time I've laughed since bristol win martyn. Love that!

3.) 07 Nov 2017 16:56:48
That's the wrong attitude Martyn. Get some Dubbin on those boots. If you need to get back in shape the Age UK aquarobics class is on tues and Thursdays tho I would advise you not to wear your boots in the pool. Something about the nails in your studs scratching the tiles.

If the news is to be believed, there is a certain element of Deja Vu running around Elland Road. Here we are chasing James Jeggo - a midfielder. What's that all about surely there are more pressing, and obvious positional problems to rectify. From what I see we could virtually field half a team of midfielders some of whom have previously been lauded as MOTM. Please let it be paper talk and please let us sort out our midfield problems on the training pitch.

leodis

1.) 30 Oct 2017 14:28:00
How is it deja? If players aren't good or tough enough, you buy new ones funding and availability permitting. Deja would be an inability to get new blood in. Not all problems can be solved on the training pitch. Tiredness, overall skill and combativeness spring to my mind. That said I do admire the Blades and their manager but the transfer market is generally how you solve such problems.

We never do it the easy way do we. Twice in front twice pulled back. Watching that you would never guess which was the Premiership team MOT

I see we are chasing Palasic. I hope he is a midfielder, with only 12 on the books we look to be a bit short in the middle of the park? Methinks a MASS clearout looms.

leodis

1.) 28 Jun 2017 18:17:06
Midfield last year was nowhere near good enough.

2.) 28 Jun 2017 21:43:05
Alot of our midfielders need to move on imo. Dallas, Phillips, Hernandez would be the main 3 I'd sell, good players but none of them 3 will get you promoted.

3.) 28 Jun 2017 23:17:15
Murphy and Dave may be seen to go over phillips

Now I don't know too much about Chris Martin but; he is 4th on the Derby strikers list. Derby prefer a man who is 33, he has a strike rate of 1 in 25 this season. Just remind me, why is he such a good catch?

leodis

1.) 16 Jan 2018 12:07:16
He wouldn't be a good signing as you say naff scoring record last 25 matches and on silly moneyfor me its either splash out on proven striker or give the young uns a chance

2.) 16 Jan 2018 14:04:03
I posted something similar on the rumours site earlier leodis, I don't get it at all, let's just hope it's speculation! . we need a fwd with pace

15 Jan 2018 16:41:24
Just looking at the U23s tables; A and B. If we have chosen wisely and have put so much faith in "ones for the future", how come we are 9th out of 11 in group A and if merged with group B, 18th out of 21. Surely we should be far nearer the top if this team have not been messed about a players regularily plucked to play in the first team? Are we perhaps getting overly optimistic on these players chances of leading our charge to the premiership if they can't even win the U23 league?

leodis

1.) 15 Jan 2018 17:01:01
It's because it's all a lie Leo.

2.) 15 Jan 2018 17:34:00
Not all of them are in the reserve or youth squads - some of them are playing for our best friends Cultural and they are having a barnstorming season. Oh wait, I had the table upside down.

15 Jan 2018 12:26:52
Looking at our recent goals for table my question is. Have we got barren strikers or have we got poor suppliers? Or maybe both?

leodis

Eeerrrrrrrr! B!

Just watched Moise Kean on video, thought I was watching a young Tino Asprilla. This lad Kean has tricks and flicks in abundance. He seems to pack tons of pace and good upper body strength, especially for his age. The one thing I did not see much of was goals, maybe that will come. He certainly looks like he would leave a few Championship defenders on the seat of their pants. Depending on the cost (val 5/6 mil) I would certainly give him a go and trickle him into the first team, sooner rather than later. The lad is 17 so will make mistakes but he looks to have the potential to win a game in a second. He seems to be on loan to Verona but I would not wait. Buy him now and if necessary leave him to see out his loan.

Unless we have a nailed on certainty before 31 Jan. Then, is the logical move to sit tight until the summer and pursue, with vigour, some players going down (home and abroad) and some players who are shining lights in mediocre teams. Some of which may well be at the end (or nearing the end) of their contracts. In spite of the passion and rhetoric flying about at the moment, the wise move would be to hang fire. I would not argue with the need for signing just the type and the timing. Yesterday, even with 10 men, we did okay and matched them for chances. I know some would say we should be destroying an average Ipswich side but the Leeds we have now will not struggle and with the right additions at the right time will mount a serious challenge next year.

leodis

1.) 14 Jan 2018 15:25:32
If the right player to improve the squad becomes available, at a reasonable price, then you should sign him irrelevant of the window you are in. Improving a squad window upon window is the key to promotion instead of signing 7 or 8 players in one go and hoping that they will instantly gel

2.) 14 Jan 2018 16:08:02
Both good posts above in my opinion. January is known to see massively inflated prices, so summer will be the key window. An additional 4, plus a few development players moving up, such as Sarkic, and we will be in a position to push on next season.

3.) 14 Jan 2018 16:42:23
So where does that leave TC with Radz saying the minimum for this year is 6th place, without imrovements now can't see better than mid table for us

4.) 14 Jan 2018 20:15:13
I would argue the prices for most in the summer were also inflated - not sure if they were any better or worse than in a Jan window.

5.) 15 Jan 2018 07:44:28
Sit tight till the summer leodis, think saiz and jannson will still be there after the summer? . we need decent players in now to show the club has ambition, and to convince players like saiz/jansson to stay at the club.

6.) 15 Jan 2018 09:33:27
both are under contract so if they do leave it will be on our terms. will the money be re-invested though? I'm sure it will be promised but we haven't yet seen any reinvestment from the Wood or Taylor sales that we were promised.

7.) 15 Jan 2018 12:20:14
Fair points you all make. If the deal is a no brainer then it does not matter when it happens but, there are far more contracts ending summer than winter and there are relegated teams wanting to trim their wage bills so it is more of a buyers market. Also if a team is willing to listen to offers for their top player it is far more likely at the end of a season than in the middle.

Is that now keeper number 5? and we still don't know our best, if we have a best. What about, get rid of 3 and use the money to buy the proven best out there - not one for the future.

Promotion this year must be our aim but interwoven with this, the need for a long term strategy. Hopefully the players bought recently are being nurtured and assesed out of the spotlight and, if we don't go up this year, are the basis of a proper go next season. So far I am with Radz and will not unfurl my "out" banners just yet. In fact I am quietly optimistic of a tilt this year but am already eager for next season to start.

I agree lads. Promotion this year to any business man is a no brainer but play offs or at least a valiant effort would not be a failure. If we keep all our assets intact. We, seemingly, have the foundations in place, with a little winter/summer recruitment, for a concerted effort next season. This season a glorious failure will be accepted by most fans but next year; expectations will be higher and possibly automatic promotion is the only target.

I feel our team are a good, top of middle, team. Not quite challenging for top two but of the nearly rans we are top of the pile. Of course 2/3 quality additions could change all that. Whether that comes in January or even next summer I do not care (I do actually but will rely on TCs good judgement) . PS However I will be more than happy with a long string of 1-0s to the end of the season!

I get the harder next year mentality. Anyone in the relegation zone must be putting something aside now for the rainy day that is coming. Maybe even scouting for the same rainy day.
