Happy with the two Inter names bandied about. Both come highly recommended but both are young enough to not demand a starting berth every week. If we are to start playing three at the back then Struijk and Nolan should complement White and Cooper perfectly. If Nolan has the same ice cool attributes as White he will be a capture indeed.

leodis

1.) 04 Aug 2019 22:44:15
Yep, totally agree Leodis. White looks so confident with the ball at his feet, reminded me of Norman Hunter! Too soon tho, but just my first impression.

2.) 05 Aug 2019 16:20:06
More like a little Paul Madeley Bright.

3.) 05 Aug 2019 21:41:25
That’s the highest accolade there is Bige!

01 Aug 2019 18:31:29
Please, please, please, let this Nolan* rumour be true.
*PS or pretty much any other decent CB.

We, supposedly, are interested in Striker Caicedo in Italy. 15goals in 2 seasons kind off says it all. What we have is way better than that. End of.

leodis

1.) 23 Jul 2019 23:11:23
Leo This is why it's not easy to improve on what you have unless you spend big which we simply can't do. It's always about value, at least at this level. I believe Edmondson will contribute this season but the spine of the defence is a concern.

2.) 24 Jul 2019 00:33:50
Not many decent strikers available to be fair, maybe Hugill. I have faith that Edmo will do the job if he gets the chance.

3.) 24 Jul 2019 10:31:57
What’s going on here!? This is the 3rd time I’ve agreed with you George!

4.) 24 Jul 2019 16:03:00
Yes George the only panic point I am creeping up on is Centre Back.

18 Jul 2019 14:54:39
Samu gone to Girona. Do we not play them 29 July?

leodis

1.) 18 Jul 2019 15:33:02
Indeed. Well, actually 27th isn't it. And Girona also play Derby two days previously, so it will be interesting which of those matches features the greater proportion of Girona's first team - of course there could be a mixture for both, and I guess Said could play in either.

Likewise, it will be very interesting to see which of our players are there and which in Sardinia. Presumably Bielsa will want his likely starters for Brizzle playing together, but we can only guess whether he will choose to take them to Sardinia or Tad.

09 Jul 2019 22:30:30
Of the half dozen names being bandied about for CB I have no preference I do however prefer that any move is swift and decisive. Too much have we shilly-shallied allowing the enemy to jump in and beat us. Let us quietly decide our target (s) and quietly negotiate and loudly anounce our new signing.

leodis

1.) 10 Jul 2019 08:13:51
Really think white is his replacement, we were short on cover even with pontus . Doesn't seem much rush to bring someone in for bielsa's pre-season. Would not be surprised with no one coming in, but using what players we have. Not learnt much from last season!

2.) 10 Jul 2019 10:38:47
Mezzer I am sadly afraid you may be only too right. Surely MB can see we need a Rock at the back an old head to bring on the kids and mop up Coopers mistakes. Williams, Cahill, etc. There are a few out there. Just hoping right now that White is the real deal from day One.

3.) 10 Jul 2019 15:05:12
I could see White talking over from Phillips. In effect White is an upgrade/ replacement on Diaz.

4.) 10 Jul 2019 17:40:37
I really can only see us getting some more players in as replacements for Phillips and Roofe, don't think despite all the rumours that we will sign another centre half. Bielsa likes his small squad of players so we were told, so can't believe anything will be different. The rush of players we got in last week was done with the Knowledge that Bielsa was letting Pontus to (IMO) . Can't wait for the season to start now, was expecting good things this season after coming so close last time, but as usual we operate like it's pantomime season. We always seem to go two steps forward then call in a big hole.

5.) 10 Jul 2019 18:18:37
Or even fall in a big hole.

Just a question. At what number of positive the virus tests do the EFL allow a game to be cancelled?

leodis

1.) 26 May 2020 11:46:28
Depends on the team 😃.

13 May 2020 10:47:11
Just thinking what will you do in two weeks time if the s/ deaths are at the same rate. Do you proceed?
What do you do when the first few players test positive? Cancel? Surely you might as well have a lottery for promotion/ relegation as play farcical games with no strong tackling, no crowds, no atmosphere everyone wearing face masks?
What happens if one participating team reports 3 or 4 first teamers' positive? Heaven forbid they end up in intensive care on Vents. Who gets sued?
What do you do if your star striker refuses to play? fine him, ban him, accept it?
What happens in the first aerial duel when a face mask is dislodged. Stop the game, dropped ball?
Yes in an ideal world promotion/ relegation should be decided on purely footballing merit however these are not ideal times and as I have said previously that whilst every Plan has its drawbacks I see far too many in the "play on" scenario.

1.) 13 May 2020 12:34:58
Good post Leodis.
There is no way everyone will be happy no matter what the decision. Even bowyer saying Charlton only in drop zone for 6 days so shouldn’t be demoted.
There will be law suits whichever decision is made.
Even if season canceled then Liverpool leeds and west Brom and prob Fulham and all the teams in European places will sue.
Just get on with it. Whatever the decision. Make it now.
No way will another ball be kicked. England still riddled with it.
Make a decision and face the music.

2.) 13 May 2020 16:00:12
Aussie, Exactley what I (and many others) now think.
It's like being delayed at an airport the REALLY annoying part is not the delay its the not knowing.

3.) 14 May 2020 14:49:25
Test all players on match day

only those who are negative can play

no need for face masks.

4.) 14 May 2020 18:18:12
what if the virus is the new normal? what if it never goes away? do we never re-start football or just take it on board as a life risk like cancer, heart attacks and car accidents?

until we know more about the virus it is impossible to second guess it.

5.) 15 May 2020 10:49:38
Only the sick wear face masks so the healthy are safe and can play football. That’s just the polite thing to do.

12 May 2020 11:34:12
So simple (and probably the cheaper) option. Cancel the two Cup competitions for 20/ 21 and start the season later. This would allow time for the current season to be completed. Everyone (maybe not the fans) happy. Actually the fans would be the recipients of a Free feast of football.

leodis

1.) 12 May 2020 19:44:19
I see this, as going to get very nasty with players not wanting to play, Owners getting lawyers involved, no one can agree with this or that, and that’s before anything being agreed. Just a game of football!,

2.) 13 May 2020 09:42:47
Yeah Whitey. I can see the EFL either bottling it or having to pick the least, worst option. Whichever way, the only winners will be the lawyers. My only hope is that if/ when a decision is made the implementation is not held up being dragged through the courts, by some owner, forever ( remember the courts also will be on lockdown? ) . The least invasive way out, at present, is the promotion of the top two, with maybe a third decided by playoffs, and to play with inflated Divisions next year. With again no Cup competitions to make room. I am sure that this suggestion has holes in it but then so do all the others. As I said, the least worst.

3.) 14 May 2020 18:19:43
i agree with this, no euro's, no cups and if need be no fake winter wolrd cup in a country that should never have it in the first place. moving the winter world cup to the following summer in a more fitting country (England) would free up the calander buy more time and allow football to play the games that it set out to do.

04 May 2020 11:43:36
I am reading of opposition to an expanded Premier League by some of the top six clubs, on the basis of too many fixtures. Surely this is easily solvable with the cancellation of either (or both) of the FA and/ or Carabao Cup. I cannot see where all the bloody mindedness comes from on this resumption? topic. After all this time there surely are no new Plans on the table, for goodness sake, choose one and let's get on with it. Certainly after this weeks back to work anouncement from Boris there will be even less room for fudging. I feel that whatever decision is made there will be compromises and with that room for legal challenges. Please, the powers that be, grow some, and let's get on with it.

leodis

1.) 04 May 2020 12:35:36
I also read today that the bottom 6 are against the idea of neutral venues unless ridiculously there is no relegation.

integrity of football just sunk to a new low .

2.) 04 May 2020 12:45:20
There is what I think is a simple solution to the Neutral ground arguement from the bottom 6, simple use the bottopm 10 teams grounds as the neutral venues and let them play their remaining home fixtures there, this eliminates the argument about "home advantage" for them and allows for relegation etc The title is all but decided so that argument is moot.
The 1 caveat I would impose on these teams is they are responsible for security and policing costs should fans chose to "turn up" to games.

{Ed001's Note - the issue seems to be more about the FA's desire to make money from this by charging the teams to play at Wembley or St George's Park. I believe that is the thing that is irritating a lot of people.}

3.) 04 May 2020 22:38:40
I honestly don’t believe that much can be taken from “home advantage”. These are Pros earning ridiculous money now, so the old time add age of shrinking under pressure should be void.
As for the stance of the bottom six, well, it’s disgusting. “If it was us”, there would be uproar! But at this stage of a season, to demand no relegation, is just pathetic.

{Ed001's Note - actually there is a proven advantage in playing at home, when a team is used to the environment there. It is not about the crowd really as such, it is little things like aiming passes. A player gets used to the dimensions and knowing (subconciously) how hard to hit a ball to reach a certain point from where he is. Stadiums have features that act as a guide to players so they can get their bearings quickly when playing a pass or judging the flight of a ball.

There is genuinely something in the moans of the bottom 6, but, and it is a big but, the world has changed and football has to adapt to the circumstances it faces right now. If that means the games will have to be played at a neutral venue with no crowds, then people will just have to get on with it until circumstances change. No one wants to play in empty stadiums but most people don't want to work dead end jobs for minimum wage and yet many people have to.

This has shown that there is a clear need to take these kind of decisions out of the hands of clubs and put them in the hands of an independent body who sets the rules. Then the clubs will just have to like it or lump it. There is no solution that works for everyone so someone has to make an unpopular decision. I have no idea what that decision should be, but someone has to step up and sort this all out and stop all the pointless bickering between clubs.}

01 May 2020 10:57:23
I was, like many, in favour of finishing the season and winning promotion irrefutably but as time drags on and no sign of an end to this awful tragedy I am now of the opinion that this season should end and a formula found to determine winners and losers. Next year would have no cup games and start much later than normally, with the first few games played behind closed doors if necessary. Above all the protection of life is paramount, players, officials or fans.
No one knows the course of this virus in the coming weeks and months so, if necessary a fallow 20/ 21 season should be contemplated.
When this pandemic subsides there is even talk of a second wave lurking. Not until a proven vaccine is available and all of the public is immunised (and issued a vaccination passport) can mass gatherings be contemplated. A bitter pill for all to swallow but the only sensible way forward. I am sure it will mean the end of the road for some clubs and unemployment for many lower league players but again this may be the price to pay for emerging the other side, a fitter and healthier game. It is not only football but many other small (and large) companies will no longer exist before we are done.

I don’t own a season ticket but what will happen to people that do? Will they be refunded or offered a discount for next seasons ticket?

2.) 01 May 2020 14:03:43
Thing is Leo, there is a school of thought out there which is growing by the day that this season should be made null and void with no conclusions!
Would you accept that with the same thought of mind.
I know that lives of people will always come above football, but for me I can’t accept the null and void.
This season should be concluded no matter what!
Even if it takes 2 years before a ball is kicked again in anger.

3.) 01 May 2020 16:04:23
Not sure what it says in the league rules

Usually at amateur level if you’ve played 80% of games it can’t be made null and void and results stand

From my vague recollections anyway.

4.) 01 May 2020 16:19:54
That’s ridiculous opti
Why?
Finish it now.
Promote and demote.
Have a break. Start new season in sept or oct. plenty of time to get fit and rid of virus.
Don’t understand why people want to finish the season
Teams have had their chance to show true colours and I know like luck of the draw etc. but it is what it is.

Finish it now. Reward or punish. Move on to pastures new.
And we get to 6 point manc.

5.) 01 May 2020 19:26:20
There is likey to be disputes controversy and legal cases against the football authorities whatever happens .

The best solution but still imperfect solution is the season is completed .

The next best but imperfect solution is to award champions, relegation and promotion by positions as things stand now or ppg or midway positions

Re the bad ' solution ' of null and voiding 80 % completed leagues I have read that the PL season cannot be null and voided without the agreement of not just the PL but also the FA and EFL

It requires proper strong fair leadership by the FA and others to ensure that for the integrity of football there is no null and voiding any leagues. and instead
champions, relegation and promotion are determined by either of the better solutions above.

Leeds, West Brom and others should aggressively make swift legal action claims for huge loss of income if there is any Null and voiding

1) and especially if the top 6 clubs accept European places in next seasons UEFA Competitions awarding European places in a null and void PL season

2) And also if the 2020/ 2021 season hypocritically starts just a matter of weeks later than null and voided PL 2019/ 20 season, say in August or even September when 100% the same coruna virus and its same risks will still be present

The French leagues 1 and 2 is the blueprint . the Dutch league decision is NOT especially because their clubs are unfairly and illogically still seeking European places in next season UEFA competitions from a null and void season and Div 2 Dutch teams in tbe promotion places will most likely be making legal cases against the leagues.

Long term (or even short term) I think Bowen would have greater impact, knocking in a few but better still setting up far more.

Reading this Aus got me thinking of other names I remember from the dim and distant past, that I don't think have posted lately. So forgive me if you have posted this morning and I have clumsily missed you but I remember;
Speedy, Mad Mick, Spanish, Samo and BIGE who have not been on for a while. If anyone knows how they are please let us know. Also Red Hot Currie has been quiet since lockdown. Somebody tell him lockdown is only for travel and not for banter.
Soon up and running again hope we have all come through this unscathed. I know some of us are on the "vulnerable" scale so good luck to all those out there young and old, fit and feeble and let's soon look forward to a feast of football.

Surely the dissenters of an enlarged prem, argument could be easily voided if they did not play either of the Cups. This then would equal the 4 or six extra games they are worried about. They would even be financially better off as the crowds would be far greater (esp if one of them is Leeds)
