What's all that about? They have offered 25mill. Didn't we offer that amount? Think we need to jump in before they pull this one off.

He will go somewhere else.
We have been too wet in this one s.

Again.
Not the first time we either don't get the deal done quickly or continue to pursue targets who become increasingly unlikely to sign for us.
Unless there are a few new additions at an advanced stage, we are going to have a poor window.

Also, we need to sort out BA's contract situation and move on Joffy and Ramz. It could end up with late decisions and a fire sale.

And now we are supposedly faffing around with Paxo again. If we get Trafford in, it will be three good additions, but way short of what we need in and out. Let's hope for a good end to the window. Surely Parag can't be happy with Underwood's performance.

I think the club takes a sensible stance; offer what you're willing to pay, no more. Of course, We have no insights to what that limit is for each player tho, so it's best to just watch these things play out. If it happens, great. If not, then it is what it is.

Too true, Bright, our club, like others, will place a limit to the value of a potential purchase.
Way too risky paying over the odds for a player who's had no experience in the Premiership.

Agree with Bright. The 3 signings of Trafford (assumed) , Wilson, and Muharemovic undoubtedly raise the floor of the squad.

I actually think the team are sitting around B on exits as well. Getting a decent fee for Struijk (not mind blowing) , a good fee for Schmidt, an excellent move on from Harrison, and terminating Wobers' deal would help.

Managing to move on Gelhardt and/or Piroe and Ramazani would upgrade outgoings, to an A if they are fees.

The floor of the squad has undoubtedly risen somewhat. So far, the depth has fallen. We ran with a pretty thin squad last season, which we ran the dice on (as newly promoted last term, that's one of the realities) .

I believe we'll be opportunistic. There is still a lot of moving and shaking to be done in this window, and some of it is like buying a house with a chain. Raphinha is easily the best signing in the last decade. It was one such signing. Not saying we will find another Raphinha, but something might pop up.

I don't believe we will land every position we think we need. The two goalkeepers and the left back are the absolute minimum. After that, a good striker.

I have. Feeling they are banking on Cairns as number 2, but without being rude, he is absolutely horrendous
Beggars belief how he has landed a professional contract.

Paixao's link to Leeds is click bait drivel, there's more chance of Messi signing for our club.
Who seriously would sign a player that has already snubbed your club?

05 Aug 2026 09:38:41
Is he that bad? What are you basing that on, Long?

Three pre-season friendlies?

I would say this much; his distribution was better than Darlow, and his catching was better than Mes?

The best keeper on show in our games was the guy from Wrexham, but Cairnes did better than the other two goalies on show in the games I watched.

I'm basing it on his positioning and saving ability!
Awful player, stealing a wage, but hats off to him and his agent for fooling us.

As for OP, what club would buy a player who has snubbed our club? Probably our club!
Underwood was obsessive over that transfer last year.

Longlost, was the outcome of last season's transfers not good enough to keep us in the Premiership?

13.) 05 Aug 2026

I wouldn't be so harsh on Cairns. His level is exactly what he should be - an emergency backup third choice who has good vibes.

It's not his fault the club haven't got the keepers in yet.

I'll say this match.

He distributes better than Darlow, can catch like Ani said, and, guess what, Rodon seems to trust him somewhat.

It's also preseason - I reckon keepers don't go full out just like you don't see full blooded challenges.

05 Aug 2026 11:35:09
Last year's transfers were good, but, as with this year, we missed out on things we should have got done, took forever on others, and probably paid over odds on stuff too.

Hats off to Cairns, I agree, but I'm worried if he's our number 2. That's all. I think he's a cracking bloke to have in the dressing room.

15.) 05 Aug 2026
05 Aug 2026 11:47:45
At the moment, Cairns is first choice!

16.) 05 Aug 2026
05 Aug 2026 12:02:01
Indeed LUFCfeath, .. Cairns is indeed our current number 1 keeper.

The one word I would use to describe our goalkeeping situation, both number 1 and number 2, since end of June is messy, very messy.

It will hopefully be resolved somewhat, but it wouldn't surprise me if it doesn't.

17.) 05 Aug 2026
05 Aug 2026 12:44:37
So let me get this straight. It wouldn't surprise you if the club allowed us to start the season, with our 3rd choice keeper starting, and no substitute GKs at Farke's disposal? Says it all, that does. That, indeed, in one word, would be "messy, very messy".

18.) 05 Aug 2026
05 Aug 2026 12:54:04
Nah, Bright, more on the lines of perhaps Citeh decide not to sell Trafford, and we end up with a combo of Perri, Cairns and one other back up.

Hopefully not (2 words) . ?

19.) 05 Aug 2026
05 Aug 2026 15:16:35
Trafford would then put in a transfer request, at a guess. No way is he staying there to be #2 again.

Longlostfan which transfers have we missed out on exactly?
Brandt? Didn't want to come. Had a better offer from Leeds & chose Ajax.
Charles? Leeds have their valuation & won't go above it. So how have they missed out?
