Scoring goals is about creating good chances and then finishing. We are below par in both those departments.
Until we have a team which addresses these shortcomings we are almost bound to be in the bottom half of the league.

Well facts are we have exactly same points after 9 games.eleven points but we won more games last seez ( W3 D2 L4)
Wins keep teams up.Ten to Eleven of them.
Next up is 8th placed Spuds.now above us.

Was thinking same Baz. We had a great start with a fluke win against Forest and then smashing Newcastle but since then pee poor I'm afraid. We've played all four bottom teams and only beat Forest. If anything we have regressed since last season. Things can only get better surely?

I'll counter with after nine league games last season we had conceded 13 league goals (compared to eight this term) .
We had scored nine goals (the same we have this season) . last season included one penalty in that run, the opening day winner. The goals this season are marginally more concentrated in the Newcastle game compared to a peak of three away at Wolves last season.
Baz is correct that we had 11 pts from nine games last season. But that start also had us comfortably in mid-table at that point. We had three wins yes, but two of those came against the eventually relegated Wolves and West Ham, so effectively the worst teams in the league for the time.
There isn't a Prem campaign where if you extrapolated 11pts from nine games across a full season (46 pts and change) , you'd end up relegated.
The other point is yes we had 11 pts after 9 games. We also had 11 pts after 13 games. It was 11 pts after 13 that had us in trouble not 11 after nine. The west ham win in gameweek 9 was in the middle of a run of six defeats in seven, including to Forest (we've played and beat them this term) , Brighton (draw away, they are form-setters) , and the team who finished bottom in Burnley. We'd have to go on comfortably our worst run in a year.
Players have spells of form, good and bad, and yes the likes of Stach, Ampadu, Okafor, Wilson are going through it. Bogle didn't play well today but we can't rely on him every game. Trafford is a clear upgrade on the Darlow/Perri situ, Muharemovic is a clear upgrade on Struijk. We've been ok with a medium term inj to Rodon, which we wouldn't have been last term at all. Elvedi is a clear upgrade on Bornauw too.
I'm not too worried but if we come out of the next three games without at least three more points from spurs/Chelsea/Coventry, yes I will be a little more. And I'd like it to be a win or more. But if its three draws I won't be too disheartened either.
I said in my general football group chat i estimated an optimistic 11th for us. I'd be completely satisfied with anywhere between 11th-15th. 16-17th sure I'd be a little disappointed but it happens, even to Brentford a few seasons ago.

The home games vs Coventry and Ipswich look our best bet for wins
Its more than conceivable we lose 4 or maybe all of those away matches
The way things are currently one win three draws and five defeats could ensue from next 9 matches
Leeds would then be wavering on 17 points from 18 games. less than a point per game.West Ham went down last seez on a higher points per game ratio than that. 39 points.

Fair enough Baz. I happen to think that's extremely pessimistic for a side that's lost just twice this term so far and one of those narrowly to the defending champs, and having won as many as we've lost. And for a side that's lost something like 10 games in a year, you're predicting we lose half that many agan in the space of just over a month.
After a poor performance in an away defeat to one of the most in-form sides its a doom and gloom prediction. We've not let lost at home, though we could in this upcoming spurs game.
Sure i'm disappointed with recent performances and results and growing concerned with the lack of goal scoring. But guess what? I back Farke and the team to try some things that have a good shot at fixing it. Last season shows they've earned that right. And Trafford, Elvedi, and Muharemovic have all been good signings. Wilson will grow, Bahoya will eventually be given a proper chance. For all those calling for Gnonto, he did very little last season and has done even less this in Italy.
39, 25, 26, 34, 35, 28, 34, 34, 33 is the total of the last relegated team for each of the last nine seasons. An average of 32 points. 39 isn't an anomaly (the highest was 42 in 2003) , but its statistically unlikely. There are six teams averaging a point per games or less. We are not one of them. I agree its shaping to be a competitive season in terms of relegation so I think a total of 36 is probably what would send a team down in 18th. Not accounting for any Manchester City punishment factor.

I agree on that Baz, and the reality is we weren't able to sign a striker this window. If i had one complaint its that we didnt sign Jonas Wind, a free agent out of Wolfsburg who ended up at Braga.
He admittedly was injured a lot of last season but that was the first time in his career he had a solid injury. He was a good age (27) and a similar profile as DCL in a target man style, and broke double figures in the prior years he wasn't injured.
He wouldn't have been an upgrade on DCL, but i think he might have been on Nmecha. Its not always about upgrading the ceiling but also the floor of the squad.

What a great evening for all at the Club and for us supporters. I thought we looked like men playing boys and looking more like a seasoned EPL side.
I disagree with Whity on BA. I am not a fan of his so I watched him closely, I thought plenty of energy as always but he ran about like headless chicken. Perhaps thats what DF likes but not me - sorry. Lets hope for a good CP result after which we go into quite a difficult stretch, but even the big boys will not relish playing us at the moment.

Having read the many good posts regarding the point at Brighton and the spend on a good keeper my thoughts, for what they are worth are that it was a decent point which could have easily gone either way. All good teams start with a very solid defence and JT certainly helps us produce that.
All professional sportsmen thrive on confidence and we should all get behind all of our team and especially JT and cheer them on whenever possible.
They are doing great this season so far and long may it last.
Great things coming with ground improvements and thus more match day revenue.

Re JT, he's not going to be invincible, but for the first time in quite a few seasons, I have confidence in our keeper.

Agree re JT and defence. We will not concede too many this season. How nice is it to think that even when our defenders are beaten, we still think the goalie will save it. He is not perfect, but the confidence he gives us and the team must be priceless. ?

All credit to Southampton tonight, so far anyway, they have defended with spirit and determination ( and a little luck ) It just goes to show what can be done if you fight as if your life depends upon the result.
