Just saw on NewsNow that Vydra is being touted as being up for sale by Burnley

I know we were linked with him a couple of years ago but would love to hear the thoughts from our group about if we would like to see him in a Leeds shirt?

Personally I thought he was a brilliant second striker for Derby. Linked up the play and was clinical in the box. He also had an engine on him which would help with the high pressing game we are playing

I would love him as a swap for Saiz. This may relegate Roberts to the bench, however that in itself improves the standard of our bench, and then covers issues in the centre forward, No10, and wide attacking positions.

Spooky I more or less posted the same!

2.) 10 Jun 2019 09:12:51
Unlikely to be a swap deal as Saiz wants to be in Spain unless I missed something.

3.) 10 Jun 2019 09:19:57
£10mill for Vydra by all accounts. Not sure where we will get that kind of money unless we do get an investment or we sell someone (Clarke? )

Morning all

Just catching up on all things Leeds and have viewed an article about how Leeds will not spend £100m, like Billa and Fulham have done, on new players if we go up.

Not sure what everyone else's opinion is on this but I personally think we should be looking to be close to that figure.
But at this point I have to point out that we would actually need to spend £48m on just 'owning' the promoted side before we even think about improving the squad so that we can stay up in the Premiership
£5m for Meslier
£20m-ish for White
£15m for Costa
£8m for Harrison
(I am not including Augustine as I don't think he has made an impact) .

I am confident that the squad we have will be able to stand to to toe with all but probably the top 6, but I worry that the small squad system will be our downfall in the latter half if the season when fatigue is a bigger issue. A don't advocate selling anyone this year but I would be happy with a few quality additions so that we can deal with a full season

A third centre back (2 if we don't get White) would help with the yellow card issue
(Foyth of Spurs)

A No8, as Klich can't do yet another full season on the trot
(Milner of Lpool)

A third decent winger, as that and fullback are Cruz positions.
(Wilson of Lpool)

A dominant goalscorer, I like everything about Bamford except his goalscoring but I thinking he will be bullied in the Premiership
(Mitrovic of Fulham)

I reckon we will have a £100m spend but only £50m will be totally new players to bed in.

Yes Axe, I have to smile when I read that Leeds have 48mill to spend on players. That's all, just to give us the team that we already have. I would be happy with Mitrovic and Foyth but most any fresh blood endorsed by Bielsa will do me.

2.) 31 May 2020 16:18:40
Generally agree but less concerned about fatigue with there being many less games in the premier league. Would need to ensure we don't play too many of 1st team in cup competitions.

3.) 31 May 2020 17:55:46
I think as a prem team we could get a couple of loanees from the top six teams, free agents will be interesting as we won't know who will avaliable, lots being said transfer prices might come right down so maybe look at championship players who could step up and clubs will sell, lad at forest, any of the front 3 from brentford, won't cost a fortune, sheff utd were very shrewd last season.

4.) 01 Jun 2020 06:20:06
What about robin koch for white.

5.) 01 Jun 2020 11:37:14
sadly mate think you can put another 50 million on white, i can't see him coming to leeds as think he will go to a bigger club for around 60 million

I think we need three Cb's as cooper can not play in the prem, bit ike mervin day back in the day fair play if he gets us there but need s to be replaced.

I personally think we need steel to move Phillips next to klich but that is contraversial

i think bamford will fair better in prem but we do need a goal scorer and someone for pablo the man is a god but one year older and one step up in class could be one step to far for the little genius

i think klich will fly in prem and dallas deserves his chance, aling i love and harrision (if we keep him) is imporiving, costa not sure about in prem but will give benifit of the doubt

the gap between champ and prem is not as big as it was and we are a good footballing team but of course we will need a few good players as every promoted team does.

6.) 01 Jun 2020 12:39:23
Bermo

I think with the virus and subsequent loss income streams valuations will be on the lower side. I haven't read anywhere of any lower league player fetching that £60m figure you mention. And with White having no international experience or top league experience I can not see any team "taking a huge punt" on him in this financial climate.

Absolute fair play to Brighton if they got that sort of figure for him, but I then think there are a fair few centre backs out there that can do a job for us for well under that price tag.

7.) 01 Jun 2020 15:33:19
Axe, maybe it will be a wise decision by Brighton to leave White here another season, until the transfer market picks up.

8.) 01 Jun 2020 15:48:35
you know what axe I didn't consider the the virus thing which could well affect football wages and price tags (making everything a bit more reasonable and normal to some extent)

I have read Liverpool were after him and if they get him i'd expect him to of been sold for around 50 million as that what a sqaud player of liverpool with the praise white has been getting could command but maybe after the virus things will become more reasonable where a good player like white can be brought for 20 million.

I have viewed a lot of posts, recently, that are all saying we should sell Casilla.

Can I just come out and say I am on the side of keep

I totally agree he hasn't had a world class start to his Leeds career but those in front of him have not made it easy. Of the defenders, Pontus is the only one who doesn't have a communication/ positioning issue and I believe that is because he is the only one who is used to playing in front of a sweeper/ keeper that are more prevalent on the continent.

Casilla is having to come to terms with defenders that chase the ball all the way back to the 18yd box, thus nullifying a keeper's ability to move forward on to the ball and observe the best pass from the many option. the defender running back tends to be looking for row Z.

With the "old fashioned British" keeper there tends to be a lot of long boots out from the back. Either clearances or out of hand. A massive weapon when your No9 is Mick Harford, Duncan Ferguson or some similar monster. However Leeds Utd have Roofe, Bamford and Roberts. None of them known for there aerial dominance. So a long ball is giving the opposition the possession. Hence a more accurate passing keeper is preferred in order to keep possession

I also feel that Casilla is Biesla's first signing (can't see he had much impact on those that came in last summer as he wasn't in charge til late on in the pre-season) . Biesla is setting out his stall for how he wants to play. Its obviously possession based, so why would he work on 10 outfield players to keep the ball and yet let the goalkeeper hoof it to the opposition every chance he gets?

For those who want Westwood or McCarthy etc, I have no qualms but, factor in the transfer fees for 2 strapping centre forwards (the second to cover injuries and loss of form) to challenge for the long balls.

Spot on axe in my opinion. Just couldn’t be bothered to type that much! 🤣👍🏻.

2.) 01 Jun 2019 09:40:40
Excellent post! Completely agree, need to give him at least another season.

3.) 01 Jun 2019 10:00:45
Axe, you obviously haven’t read Georgies post “ every Leeds fan knows we should sell Casilla”! Your post is very well thought through. Hard to see us moving him on this summer unless under the guise of personal reasons and he too prefers wandering the streets of Madrid in preference to Leeds! Also not sure who would match the size and length of his contract. Suspect he will stay and we will be hoping that in year two his understanding and the understanding around him will be a lot better!

4.) 01 Jun 2019 10:32:10

Can you tell I have too much time on my hands at the moment. Hopefully normal service will be resumed soon

I so apologise, Georgie's post had missed me. I shall look to re-edit my tome to reflect my new viewpoint from the comfort of my Sunlouger of Shame.

5.) 01 Jun 2019 11:41:38
I should think so too! Enjoy!

6.) 02 Jun 2019 14:29:24
If we do keep Casilla, someone had better go buy a safety harness from a sports shop and attach with ultra short leash. Selling him much easier guys. Canna teach old dogs.

I have just read Noel Whelans view on Harrison, and how he is soft and that's a main problem with this team

Firstly, Noel, I could take that observation from Jones, Batty, or Baird, but seriously!
People in glasshouses.

Secondly, who wants to see 11 cloggers in white shirts?
I have enjoyed this year. I have enjoyed watching players in white shirts who know how to pass yo other players on white shirts

I actually think we don't have enough ball players in the squad

Can you imagine if we could have given Klich, Henandez, Phillip's, Alioski a couple of games breather during the season and replaced them with equally as good players so the tempo always remained as high

I think we are lacking a 2nd creative spark in midfield to take the emphasis off Henandez. Saiz is not the answer but at least the opposition had to get 2 men to him when he got near the ball so it freed others
I like Tyler but I just don't think he had that extra unpredictability that concerns most opposition. Pace-wise he is a lot better than Saiz, just not that final incisive pass

Noel, you keep longing for the heady days of Paul Okon, Nicholls et all. I am loving these lightweights.

axe_on_tour

1.) 27 Apr 2019 19:29:16
Axe, I truly agree that we need a skillfull, unpredictable No 10. Someone with tricks and flicks that can open up packed defences for a poacher striker. Unfortunately I have to sisagree with giving Alioski a breather. When he comes back he would still be Alioski.

2.) 27 Apr 2019 19:45:49
Radz failure to invest in January is unforgivable. That is what it boils down to. With a bit of luck the 49ers will take majority stake in the near future.

3.) 27 Apr 2019 19:49:11
Axe by saying opposition had to put 2 men on Saiz you effectively day he was the answer!
If oponents were scared of his creativity then it gave us extra space when he played as they paid him extra attention.
When they didn't he was creative and early season for showed that.
Once he gave up we lost that extra bit of spark as you say.
Love the Batty, Baird, Jones comment (or even my old favourite Bobby Davison) .
Still time this season boys.
We're going up, just the hard way.

4.) 27 Apr 2019 19:50:52
AHH, the (some say) brilliant Noel Whelan, another ex-player who knows everything 🙄 personally I'm of the opinion that the manager knows best, he gets paid more than me for his knowledge and expertise.

5.) 27 Apr 2019 22:19:21
Sick of the “should’ve invested in Jan” tripe now. We tried, and were let down by some uppity numb nut, who got told to do one days later. FFP. Above that intended investment we’d have been on a tightrope. The two teams in auto didn’t invest much did they, so why is that the answer?

6.) 28 Apr 2019 01:49:28
Bright, postings becoming more apt by the day! If we don’t buy star players , we aren’t investing enough! If we do invest, in players like Bamford, were investing in the wrong players, if we invest in youth, there’s no success in playing the kids! Third in the championship, joint top under 18s, top in our league under 23s! It’s a bloody good year!

Just saw on the BBC Gossip page that Steve Bruce wants to re-sign John Terry

Never actually liked the guy but always have to admit he is a very good centre half.

Would anyone else like to see him get a deal at Leeds?

I know he is ex Chelsea. I know he doesn't have the best of morals. But in footballing terms wouldn't he be a huge advantage?

. And quite possibly he is a big influence on Blackman, Baker, Brown and Bamford (Killer Bees) through his Chelsea past.

axe_on_tour

1.) 04 Sep 2018 08:26:37
No he is yesterday's man, move on.

2.) 04 Sep 2018 08:40:35
Fair enough Messer

Short, sweet, to the point

Not sure about him myself, but it's the one position that most fans on the form feel needs adding to so just thought i would see how others felt.

Personally i would like us to find another Janssen type figure from the lower reaches of foreign top leagues whom we can build upon, but i could see Terry as a quick fix for a season whilst giving more breathing space to all our young centre backs to develop outside the first team pressure cooker.

3.) 04 Sep 2018 08:41:33
Bruce gambled last season with high wage earners like Terry and put the club in a financial state. Now he has a new owner with new money, he is prepared to do the same again. Bruce is financially irresponsible and along with Terry is past his best.

4.) 04 Sep 2018 09:29:19
Hasn't got the legs foe the leeds team.

5.) 04 Sep 2018 10:01:25
I don't think it is a bad shout. yes he is past it but still decent. no he would not be my first choice as he is slow but if it was JT or no one i would have TJ if pontus gets suspended he could be a decent answer. would he also help cooper be a better defender as coops can play but can also be useless. would rather JT come into first team than shuanassy and let's be honest shuannassy will get at least 5 caps for us this season.

6.) 04 Sep 2018 10:04:55
No thanks.
Horrible man and too old.

7.) 04 Sep 2018 10:53:10
Would not want him anywhere near the club. Decent player in his day, not know. Morally corrupt so not the type of guy you want to bring on the young ones.

8.) 04 Sep 2018 11:35:16
Just not going to work out. Should imagine he is looking for a last big payout, can’t see him fitting into the Bielsa mould.

9.) 04 Sep 2018 13:57:59
Terry has had plenty of big money offers from China and the USA so I don't buy that he is only in it for the money. At 38 he is in the twilight of his career so he is not one for the future but i reckon he could do a job for us and be a big influence in the dressing room so if the price and desire was right it would be a yes from me.

10.) 04 Sep 2018 15:01:21
Twilight of his career? More like gone midnight ;) far too old and immobile, not to mention morally bankrupt.

11.) 04 Sep 2018 15:53:58
Sounds daft and i'm not sure what bermo would say, but for me Berardi is a better cb for this league this season that JT.

12.) 04 Sep 2018 16:16:18
you know what sam I would say beradi would be picked over JT for me. has improved and played well so even I can't knock him, my only worry is he is so little and you can't coach height and some will target that (2nd swans goal) that said if any one could mark that weakness it would be borough and for me against them Beradi was man of the match.

24 Aug 2018 09:22:01
Can someone shed some light on my perplexing issue?

I don't claim to be a master football tactician but looking at Biesla's system it seems to me that any forward has to be happy to chase lost causes as well as bust a gut to be present and available in the box at all times. All midfielders need to be constantly on the move. Creating angles for receiving passes or dragging the opposition out of the way. Then the full backs are expected to be good defensively, whilst also expected to be in position to aid the attack.

HOWEVER, stop me if I am wrong, the two centre backs are the pivots. They don't move that much in relation to their team mates. Their jobs are to smother the opposition forwards and quickly release the ball to their less encumbered colleagues.

If i am correct with my assessment above I would extrapolate that this to mean we should not have burn out of our centre backs whilst every other position has the downside of exhausting the said incumbent.

Could this be why Mr Biesla is looking for more legs for his forward positions and is content to assume a centre back in his team's can complete 40 games with the fitness levels he demands?

axe_on_tour

1.) 24 Aug 2018 10:58:54
Is that Bielsa on tour? Do you have a bucket! I think that’s how he sees it!

2.) 24 Aug 2018 11:39:24
And the thing is we have only been playing one of our CBs and we are unbeaten. As George has touched upon its Phillips role that is more worrying. Can not see any other midfielder being able to play that role. Maybe Nessie will be able to as he is a midfielder and did well at CB. Only other option i see with Viera gone is playing with two CBs and playing Berardi there. Big plus so far, apart from the lads getting on board with Bielsaball, is young Shackletons displays. Seen a lot of him in U23s but he is stepping up in style. Never massively stood out for me in academy but he obviously wants to be in that team. Shows what a bit of encouragement and recognition can do for a young lad.

3.) 24 Aug 2018 13:56:45
I agree axe and understand what you are saying, but the problem and for me is a big problem is on Tuesday we didn’t have a centre back on the pitch who is an actual centre back. So for that reason alone we must get a centre back in.

My personal opinion is that we need another centre back is because cooper last season had suspension problems and Jannson had injury problems but that bit is opinion

I know Bielsa doesn’t believe we have a replacement for Phillips and he knows a lot more about football than I do but I see nessie as his replacement. We signed him from reading as a centre mid and turned him into a centre back, surely that means he can play between them both as he has the knowledge on how to play either.

4.) 24 Aug 2018 15:50:10
Bielsa on tour, does that mean he takes a spade to go with the magic bucket? Btw, the Times football writer called him"The Prince of Pails" made me smile anyway :)

5.) 24 Aug 2018 17:06:52
I do believe that another CB would not go amiss however I also believe that Shaugnessy could do a job, given a chance. As for DM Shaugnessy could also play there, as could Berardi.

Martyn not everyone shot you down, and many that did were shooting down your constant negativity

There are a lot of knowledgeable people on here and I think a huge percentage of them could have written that Eddie would struggle as the lone striker. To play that role takes an amount of physicality and selflessness that the young man just didn't have.

However, most of us just wanted the young man to do well because we like to see next generations flourish, and we actually didn't see him play any role to a significant timescale to fully judge

But that all said, he does have a look of Wallace about him and a big brute of a CF may have let him play some excellent football.

Canada, I think Martyn was backing up your point. Viduka can't see in to the future and predict what will and won't be happening

Not sure why Adams can not be playing for Southampton AND still be available for loaning? I guess that the EFL smallprint that Viduka can see that I can not
Mind you I don't believe we can discount the idea that may be we are not actually looking for a loaned in forward. May be with a pattern of play we have, which uses one forward, we only need the forward on the pitch, the forward on the bench and the backup forward in the U23s. Anything more is a waste of their time and our finances (remember when we were still paying Huckerby even after accumulating 5 better forwards? What a waste of money that was)

Only you need to explain your posts. No one else on this site writes in such a childish manner, which I find difficult to decipher.

I did as you said, typed 'most hated fans' and it came out as Chelsea

Maybe you should research your points, then ask a grown up to read it and edit it.

Just because you have friends that "hate" Leeds United, are you really saying that all the world hates Leeds?

I am not going to get emotive about this as in reality what you, your friends, or even the rest of the world thinks isn't that relevant to us Leeds fans, but I am curious

The world, 8 billion souls. hate Leeds

The UK, 67 million. hate Leeds

England, 57 million. hate Leeds

Nah, can't see it somehow

So are we talking football fans?
I live south of Manchester, drink with 2 West Ham fans, 1 Geordie, 1 City fan, 2 Man Utd fans and 2 to 3 Liverpool fans (depending if his wife let's him out) . To a man they wanted Leeds back in the PL. To a man they love the football that Bielsa has created. To a man they look forward to our matches against them. And they all have said that it's the same for all their friends. I know it's not a vast poll but I have not heard anyone 'hate' Leeds United. However I will admit I can't understand the Brummie accent so maybe I just haven't understood what they're saying. I tend to glaze over once one of you guys starts grunting

Anyway, this Hottub won't look after itself, got to get out and fill the Processo End back up.

See you layer VD.

Get back in the hot tub of hope. You were doing so well

You refer to Moyes as the better manager, is that inversely based on the fact the Bielsa has been nominated for a world manager award, whilst Moyes hasn't?

Or is this some higher thinking in which your dislike of Kalvin Phillips is opposite to that of EVERY Premier League pundit, manager, and the England manager so therefore Moyes is superior because he has Declan Rice
You kinda of catch me out with your modern day thinking sometimes.

Just think on, soon your happy place could be Axe's Hottub.
