Well guys, I've just got a feeling that today is going to be such a good day that even Wex will be happy! Ok, well perhaps not that good but you never know!

French very tall goalkeeper in, Eddie on his way down the M1 and I think he is an excellent piece of business! Then the Italian Irish connection. Kent would really start to get the champagne opened but the one that might settle a few defensive nerves on here could be Cameron Vickers, perhaps, perhaps something that might have been mentioned during the Clarke negotiations.

If all of that happens, I think it's been an incredible window, first three and it's ok, kent would make it very good!

At least with the cut off at 5pm, we don't even need to think about going to bed!

Well just read Phil Hay and he is saying Eddie and the French goalie and that’s the lot! He is very rarely wrong and doesn’t normally predict unless his sources are good. Let’s see!

2.) 08 Aug 2019 10:38:15
Spaniard Looks like CCV going elsewhere and according to Phil Hay we're only signing Eddie today and then we're done for the summer window.

3.) 08 Aug 2019 11:07:49
Disappointly think you’re spot on George

Looks like others have done or doing decent business

Scott Carson would have been useful and our “relationship” with Spurs and Poch seems non existent despite the hype.

4.) 08 Aug 2019 11:39:48
Suppose we shouldn’t be surprised

MB wants 18 players plus U23s as required

Roofe and BPF out, two in, job done.

5.) 08 Aug 2019 11:47:40
Scandalous window. Another two loans which will probably only cost a couple of million means that Radz and Orta finish up with around £20million profit while we get a bunch of loan players that may or may not work out for us.

6.) 08 Aug 2019 12:44:42
theres certain positions where it shouldn't be a case of we will wait and see how it goes alf, Basically the spine of the team, and here we are again with that very scenario about to be played out, kiko does be all over the place, and if he is dropped then we WILL be told this new young lad will take time to adjust to UK game, all the while points will be dropped . Fingers Crossed the lad hits the ground at a 1000 mph,

12 Jul 2019 08:04:05
So shaunessy and Pearce not featuring in the two games in any form . Assuming that means thank you and goodnight?

Spanishleeds

1.) 12 Jul 2019 11:44:04
Spaniard Nessy just isn't good enough. Pearce is but doesn't fit the Bielsa style. He's composed but a tad slow for the system. I'd sell Nessy if a fee can be obtained and loan out Pearce as he could be useful to us in the future.

12 Jul 2019 08:00:36
Ok next up for the gamblers and guessers! Who won't be on the plane to Australia! Sounds like bit of a fight going on with the commercial boys and reported that Bielsa wants to keep the new boys and late returners training hard and not making the trip, including a number from last night. That sounds like a good plan to me. Also assuming no Roberts and Ayling. Perhaps a good idea not to take any CBS as well! Not sure papa Hernandez needs a trip to Australia either. Wonder if there are any good CBS out there who could come back with us?

Spanishleeds

1.) 12 Jul 2019 11:09:00
Ausman and others over there may know better, but as far as I can tell there are no decent CBs playing for Western Sydney Wanderers (their best appears to be Dylan McGowan, who I would not pick ahead of Struijk) and not even any across the city at their more illustrious neighbours Sydney FC.

2.) 13 Jul 2019 03:28:23
Nobody here good enough.

08 Jul 2019 21:37:30
When Bielsa talked about staying, he would have made it very clear what he wanted, what the preferable and positive sales could be. It obviously wasn't a surprise that Pontus would go, and in that knowledge. Kitching, Aappo and Paudie were let go, which means that even with no Pontus, they weren't in the plans. Shaunessy, hasn't gone any where, so, although it would be a surprise to me, he might be featuring preseason.

Likewise it wouldn't be a surprise that we would have offers for JC, KP and Roofe!

Point is, there will be a plan and Bielsa will have ideas for how he can use the squad that he appears to be fine tuning. Like Raggity says below, he deserves the chance. Let's see how we start to play some football.

Spanishleeds

1.) 09 Jul 2019 10:58:53
Damn you are your profound logic Spanish! 👍🏻.

2.) 09 Jul 2019 12:42:37
Spanish if the plan is to go with Cooper, White and Struik plus makeshifts then most would agree it’s a daft plan . If they pull a top quality replacement out of the hat, then that’s a different story . Problem is Bielsa was on record last year as being happy with the numbers in central defence . He’s now swapped Pontus for White, so I suspect in his myopic eyes all good .

3.) 09 Jul 2019 15:30:51
RHC

As the manager of Leeds United Football Club, do you think it would be a good idea to sit in a media meeting and pronounce that he thinks his centre backs are not up to it?

Really?

This is what you think he should have done?

So how do you think that will motivate Cooper, Jansson, Beradi, Struik, Halme and Diaz?

What support would they have given Biesla for the rest of the season?

Also, every agent of every centre back would have been beating down his door. And ever club with a reasonable centre back would be inflating his fee.

4.) 09 Jul 2019 17:48:47
Axe incorrect . Even the board last Summer tried to persuade him to go for Bartley . He wasn’t interested . His school of thought is pretty much anyone can make a job of CB if they can use the ball . Fine in South America or may be even Spain but not on a wet Wednesday night at the Den it’s not!

03 Jul 2019 09:08:03
pontus supposedly training with Malmo yesterday and refusing to answer questions about his future. Has anyone seen any sign of him in Leeds? It would seem very strange if the internationals are back and he isn't! No Pontus comment on twitter either which isn't his style if he is subject to ridiculous speculation!

Spanishleeds

1.) 03 Jul 2019 13:09:14
He’s probably bored of being asked the same thing.

2.) 03 Jul 2019 16:08:13
Sounds like he actually had a bust up with Bielsa, of all people! Good luck to him improving as a player under Chris Wilder, if that’s the case!

3.) 03 Jul 2019 16:25:12
Would rather give him away to Fulham than sell him to Sheffield utd.

4.) 03 Jul 2019 20:51:04
Guess you're referring to articles referring claims of supposed football agent John Harriott. Don't worry about anything that guy has written. This January he tweeted that Robert Huth was joining Fat Frank's former club - to which Huth responded - saying this "literally couldn't be less true" as he had retired. The previous January Mr Harriott got into a Twitter spat with Jamie Vardy's wife, having claimed he was definitely moving to Chelsea and suggesting it was because she wanted to go to London. The guy had previous with winding up Foxes fans, having claimed in August 2017 that they were after Andre Schurrle and Steve Nzonzi. Clearly a Wum with rather too much time on his hands and an addiction to Twitter.

If Klich had scored his penalty and Bamford had scored one of his good chances the comments on here wouldn't have been so scathing from some. Point is the game plan produced enough opportunities to win the game comfortably, even if just the penalty had gone in, we would have won 2-0! I was upset as anyone but it's not the end of the world and hardly shows we are playing crap football.

Bielsa isn't going to be sacked and we're not going to buy a Razor Ruddock look alike at CB. This is the way we are going to play until promotion is secured or impossible! Think Bielsa is perfectly capable of changing Bamford for Eddie or playing two up front but he'll do iit when he thinks it is right. I've still got more confidence this year than I had last.

Onwards and upwards!

Spanishleeds

1.) 22 Sep 2019 19:48:07
Maybe we can persuade the EFL to let isn’t go up on chances created? Sadly at present teams who succeed go up on goals scored and points earned - not ifs and buts and mis-firing strikers.

2.) 22 Sep 2019 20:28:17
Spanish what is different from last season.

3.) 22 Sep 2019 21:12:23
We have a better keeper. A better CB. A better squad. A better and more experienced bunch of young players.

4.) 22 Sep 2019 21:12:24
Wex

1) better keeper
2) more depth at fullbacks
3) centrebacks that epitomise 'side before self'
4) midfielders who have had a year of understanding and implementing new tactics
5) more depth at wingers.

5.) 22 Sep 2019 22:14:04
i am the biggest moaner on the site but fullbacks is 100% spot on

biggest plus of this season is dallas been quality and foreshaw

more depth at wingers as well (if mb changes them at any point)

CB is a huge minus though, no depth either we are two injuores away from a crisis.

6.) 22 Sep 2019 22:17:39
Alf, the teams that go up automatically are the ones that sit in first and second place which despite the ifs and buts and mis firing strikers is exactly where we are! imagine what it will be like when the strikers fire and the ifs and buts become the yeses! Wex, I think we have greater strength in depth this year for all the reasons the guys above have given. I still think we are a work in progress but no bad thing, there is still a long way to go. I’m sure I’m not going to convince you or Bermondsey and we’ll just have to wait until the season end until we see who is right.

This is the third consecutive season that we have been in this position at this time in September, for me third time lucky!

7.) 22 Sep 2019 22:38:33
What if a CB gets injured.

8.) 23 Sep 2019 07:32:37
Beradi, Ayling, Davis, Struick not mentioning KP. Those are CB options, you might not like them, but they are there. Yep CB errors and changes could cause us to concede some goals but that’s not what will be key to success or failure with this side. We need to take more opportunities that we are creating, simple! If any team misses chances like we did on Saturday including a penalty then they could easily lose never mind draw! I honestly don’t think there is much wrong with the game plan. Despite the frailties with some defending, we are generally tight at the back, dominating games and creating opportunities. Klich penalty goes in, the game is won and they might not even have scored! 2 points more and 2 good better, that’s sometimes how Tight the margins are!

9.) 23 Sep 2019 09:21:25
spanish every option you mention there is shockingly S@@t at CB, a bad option is not an option

as for convincing me nothing will, you shouldn't try mate your watsing your positive enrgy on a lost cuase. the table will convince me in may and not before as at the moment what i have seen on the pitch makes me think same old. and we all know how that song plays out.

10.) 23 Sep 2019 11:32:59
Exactly we have been here for the last 2 years and not made it so when we are throwing away points after points I am very concerned. come the end of the season these points we are throwing away will probably be the difference between success and failure and for me we should be 4/5 points clear now not level pegging.

the points also have a massive impact on the chasing pack mentally who will all but give up if the gap widens to a significant amount and also teams that we play against. everyone will be looking at our results now thinking we are there for the taking rather than wetting themselves seeing that we take teams to the cleaners every week. in the course of a season this all matters so its all very well saying 'we are top now' but we are showing we are vulnerable, do not score enough and concede silly goals at stupid times.

as for anyone who thinks the keeper is better? He didn't stop Swansea, Forest or Derby scoring and if you want to blame the defence that's fine as well - look no further than Cooper for a weak link. Together Cooper and Kiko cost us promotion last season and will do it again this season.

11.) 23 Sep 2019 13:11:42
well said alf my thoughts exactly

i get that fans can have blind faith. but i don't know how anyone can be confident this year will be different. on what eveidence. people say we are top. so what we have been top before and chucked it away and from what i have seen this year we have the same problems as before (not scoring enough) and have added a few new ones (set play defending and general defening)

i respect peoples optomisim but for me i just don't get it.

21 Sep 2019 23:14:54
If Bamford had scored his best two opportunities and Klich had scored the penalty, the comments on here wouldn't be scathing and yet the performance would have been largely the same!

Bielsas team need possession, opportunities and then to take them. Today we didn't do the third bit and at 1-0, a Bielsa team will always be vulnerable in the last 10 mins of a game.

George is right, need two strikers at home, think it would have worked today.

This is Bielsa team and is where it is because of his approach and style but we have to take more of the opportunities we create. If his game plan works the defensive frailties don't matter. We drew because we missed at least two great opportunities and missed a penalty!

Spanishleeds

1.) 22 Sep 2019 00:57:13
if the ref gave the two pens, they scored from the keeper mix up and from the corner we would of lost 5-1 and it would of been worse so it works both ways

you know football mate come on how can you say if we attack well enough defence don't matter. no one has ever won anything with a bad defence and ours is as bad as it gets.

2.) 22 Sep 2019 01:22:34
Thanks for your support Spaniard. Feel as if my ❤ has been trampled on. I am very angry. It's opening up my wounds. I'm so upset I'm now finding myself in agreement with virtually everything Berm has to say and he's becoming my early favourite for POTS 2020. As for Klich, what an unbelievable unprintable highly critical word. I'm forking hurt and seething.

3.) 22 Sep 2019 01:32:52
Spanish I'm beginning to think your wages are paid by Leeds United.

4.) 22 Sep 2019 07:30:59
The team lost because Bamford despite improving his all round play from last season consistently fails to convert the simplest of chances . Prior to yesterday’s game he had 4 goals from 25 attempts and now closer to 30 . It’s unacceptable and can not be allowed to continue. However, if you look at the overall team pattern and performance, it was scintillating and one of our best . You take away a midfielder from that team equation and I strongly suspect that level of team performance falls away, as does MB . Besides Bielsa will not switch to 442 . No the answer is to replace Bamford with Eddie and despite looking anonymous yesterday, start Costa for Harrison .

5.) 22 Sep 2019 10:42:15
Wex, the trouble with Spanish is that he's correct in virtually everything he posts! George is pretty much on the mark too apart from agreeing with Berm (who's posts I respect but don't agree with! ) Our defence is as bad as it gets? Last time I looked we'd only conceded 4 this season, Peace and love to all!

6.) 22 Sep 2019 14:51:02
Well said Degsy!

16 Sep 2019 15:04:23
Afternoon all, I've been quiet for a bit, physically doing the drive back from Leeds to Valencia with a nice break in Rioja on the way! Being reading but not writing, for a change, give you all a rest. I've decided that with Brexit finally approaching, possibly, I'm better off back in Spain at the end of October! So going to be seeing as many games as possible by flying back in! Back safely in the house in time to watch the Barnsley game and interesting to read all the comments.

For me, it's been an interesting start to the season, I don't think we are firing on all cylinders, Bielsa hasn't really opted for his best starting lineup, most opposition corners still make me nervous, and I don't think we are playing as good as football as we produced early last season for as long in a game!

But, we're top of the table and with the best defensive record in the division and only three league goals conceded. So if this is a base on which we can improve, that's not bad.

Not quite sure yet, who the other best teams are in this year, but whereas last year I was worried about our chances against, West Brom, Norwich and Villa, not sure I have those same fears about sides this year. When we played Bristol and Forest early on, some people trashed their sides as poor, but both are unbeaten for 5 games and Bristol have only lost against us!

In short, pleased about the start, leaving us room to improve, but definitely not peaking too soon.

I'm back for the centenary game against Birmingham and in Leeds for the weekend if anyone is celebrating!

Spanishleeds

1.) 16 Sep 2019 16:08:57
Plus Forest beat Swansea at The Liberty. West Brom will be tough I think.

01 Sep 2019 18:08:34
Well I didn't think I'd watch 2 games at Elland road in two days and not see a Leeds goal. For all that a good game against a tough Bristol side that ended 0-0. Felt a bit like Groundhog Day, good football, lots of chances, Bogusz hit the woodwork twice and Pascal had a goal disallowed. But no last minute Bristol goal.

The good bits, keeper looks good to me, good bringing the goal out, should have caught rather than punched late on but a couple of decent saves.

Jack Clarke, better, some good movement and goal attempts, one of which brought off a very good save. Got his hard down and worked harder.

Bogusz, such confidence, comfortable on the ball, difficult getting it sometimes, but hit the bar twice and looks like he can always Knick a goal.

Mcalmont, that will do his confidence a bit of good. So, I'd performance with a few pinpoint really good long passes.

Helder showed his class when he was involved, but shoved off the ball easily a few times and not sure he really put everything into it.

And Pascal, got on through the unfortunate injury to Davis and put himself about at both ends, a goal disallowed, another two headers at our corners. Just for his height he brings our squad something it lacks, but brought the ball out of defence well and was a presence in both boxes.

Spanishleeds

1.) 01 Sep 2019 18:55:28
Is Pascal on the slow side Spanish?

2.) 01 Sep 2019 19:27:07
I mean his pace!

3.) 01 Sep 2019 19:37:15
I’m assuming speed rather than intellect Cork! He’s a bit bigger and taller, so wouldn’t say he’s the fastest but enough for his role, to intercept and bring the ball out before passing it on. I think that’s possible one of the reasons why Bielsa prefers Davis because he has extra versatility. Pascal is definitely CB, I’m not sure I would see him in another position.

4.) 02 Sep 2019 11:47:13
Talking of pace, I was surprised how rapid Ryan looked! Plus very strong vs the experience of Ashley Williams.

01 Sep 2019 13:34:50
Back at Elland road for the under 23s, hoping for a win to cheer me up!

Strong side, Bielsa being Bielsa!

Meslier, Gotts, Douglas, Beradi, Davis, Mcalmont, Bogusz, Shackleton, Costa, Clarke, Edmundson!

Pascal and Kun on the bench it seems!

Congrats to Ryan, England under 19 call up, good luck!

Spanishleeds

1.) 01 Sep 2019 14:08:57
Looks a very strong side. What is your opinion of Kun, Spanish? He was tipped for big things. Does show we have some promising talent there I think.

2.) 01 Sep 2019 14:55:25
0-0, half time, good game. Some nice attacking football, Clarke energy and skill in bursts, Helda creAting some stuff but not looking at full pelt. Mcalmont playing some beUtiful long passes. Lief Davis stretchered off, looks concerning. Pascal struick on. Nice to have some height!

Kun, like a number of the under 23s, bright start and then needs to keep the development going. With the way Bielsa uses the under 23s, not easy to get into this under 23 side and stay there. No Stevens today either.

3.) 01 Sep 2019 15:21:30
well pleased for ryan always good to see any leeds lad get the england call up but i do like ryan

malta I have seen kun a few times. for me he is very busy lots of energy and some great touches and nice ideas but not anywhere near the finsihed product.

4.) 01 Sep 2019 19:28:40
Spanish. And some folk say we don’t have a strong squad!

5.) 01 Sep 2019 22:16:11
I think most feel we are light in defence, Cork. I agree in some respect but the way Bielsa has us playing I would you prefer the likes of a bench with Costa, Eddie, Roberts, Clarke, even Dallas or Alioski could be included if Douglas and Ailying are starters. Or two big centre halves and the keep taking 3 of those spots. It is the job of the manager I guess and why he earns a lot more money than I do hahaha.
The squad to me looks a lot stronger than last year.

Thanks Bermo. I had heard from a few mates back there that they liked what they saw from Kun. Going to be interesting to see then how he progresses. I did think Ryan and Kun would be around the fringes of the first team this year. Still a lot of the season to go for them to do that.

6.) 02 Sep 2019 13:54:16
We could definitely do with another CB but in general the squad is better than last season. We will walk the league unless a massive injury curse happens again.

I might be wrong but I think after a year Bielsa has a very clear view on all of the existing players. We know the research he did on White so imagine what he does with those all around him. I suspect that he has decided that Miazak, Huffer and possibly Struick, Kun and yes Edmondson are only to be used in extreme emergencies! The ones he is bringing in this year, I would think match his requirements more at first team and under 23 levels. I think the tall French guy will be number 2 otherwise can’t think why you would buy him and is that 2/ 3 young strikers we have bought this summer. Wouldn’t surprise me if Edmundson goes out on loan. Struick probably kept around as an emergency cover unless we bring in another CB at the last minute. I think Bielsas requirements are tough, for example each player capable of 3 roles, Edmundson really does one and that in a certain way!

Bielsa bud, great post! I think that is what is exciting about what is happening at the moment, we are building something that is starting to feel special again. Long way to go before this team can ever be compared with the greats of the past but there is a growing buzz in the city, consistent support at home games, growing interest in the under 23s, kids buying Leeds shirts instead of Man City or Liverpool. All of that matters. Of course it’s result dependent and needs to be nurtured but it feels good!

The table matters but it matters most at the end of the season and it’s importance grows as the season progresses. All you can do is try to stay close to the top of it. So far we are whilst still being a work in progress with questions to answer. That’s no bad thing. The great the gap grows between your team and the top two places, the more difficult it becomes. I can see the defence improving through experience of working together as the year goes by it’s going to be our ability to convert chances that we determine whether w go up. Sort that and we’ll be there.

Other Woody, yes, I was thinking that as well. The coaches have the benefit of knowing what’s coming through. To be fair against Barnsley, I thought Aappo showed both his strengths and weaknesses, when he struggles prone to giving away penalties or fouls.
