Like London buses, no posts for ages and then.

Carlos Corberan, name linked with the Huddersfield job. I'd like him to stay and be part of the premiership coaching team and category one academy team. Don't think a job with Huddersfield offers much for the cv and could easily be out of a job by Christmas. For me, he has been part of our success over The last few years and he deserves to be part of the premiership experience. Hope Bielsa wants him to stay.

Agreed Spanish. Just posted similar, with out catching up first! Doh!

2.) 20 Jul 2020 17:56:01
Spaniard Could not agree more. It's a downward backward move for CC at this juncture. Radz spoke about aiming for PL stability. Don't see how that's achieved by allowing CC to go. CC shouldn't be allowed to leave until after first season back in PL.

Well guys, I've just got a feeling that today is going to be such a good day that even Wex will be happy! Ok, well perhaps not that good but you never know!

French very tall goalkeeper in, Eddie on his way down the M1 and I think he is an excellent piece of business! Then the Italian Irish connection. Kent would really start to get the champagne opened but the one that might settle a few defensive nerves on here could be Cameron Vickers, perhaps, perhaps something that might have been mentioned during the Clarke negotiations.

If all of that happens, I think it's been an incredible window, first three and it's ok, kent would make it very good!

At least with the cut off at 5pm, we don't even need to think about going to bed!

1.) 08 Aug 2019 10:34:20
Well just read Phil Hay and he is saying Eddie and the French goalie and that’s the lot! He is very rarely wrong and doesn’t normally predict unless his sources are good. Let’s see!

2.) 08 Aug 2019 10:38:15
Spaniard Looks like CCV going elsewhere and according to Phil Hay we're only signing Eddie today and then we're done for the summer window.

3.) 08 Aug 2019 11:07:49
Disappointly think you’re spot on George

Looks like others have done or doing decent business

Scott Carson would have been useful and our “relationship” with Spurs and Poch seems non existent despite the hype.

4.) 08 Aug 2019 11:39:48
Suppose we shouldn’t be surprised

MB wants 18 players plus U23s as required

Roofe and BPF out, two in, job done.

5.) 08 Aug 2019 11:47:40
Scandalous window. Another two loans which will probably only cost a couple of million means that Radz and Orta finish up with around £20million profit while we get a bunch of loan players that may or may not work out for us.

6.) 08 Aug 2019 12:44:42
theres certain positions where it shouldn't be a case of we will wait and see how it goes alf, Basically the spine of the team, and here we are again with that very scenario about to be played out, kiko does be all over the place, and if he is dropped then we WILL be told this new young lad will take time to adjust to UK game, all the while points will be dropped . Fingers Crossed the lad hits the ground at a 1000 mph,

12 Jul 2019 08:04:05
So shaunessy and Pearce not featuring in the two games in any form . Assuming that means thank you and goodnight?

Spanishleeds

1.) 12 Jul 2019 11:44:04
Spaniard Nessy just isn't good enough. Pearce is but doesn't fit the Bielsa style. He's composed but a tad slow for the system. I'd sell Nessy if a fee can be obtained and loan out Pearce as he could be useful to us in the future.

12 Jul 2019 08:00:36
Ok next up for the gamblers and guessers! Who won't be on the plane to Australia! Sounds like bit of a fight going on with the commercial boys and reported that Bielsa wants to keep the new boys and late returners training hard and not making the trip, including a number from last night. That sounds like a good plan to me. Also assuming no Roberts and Ayling. Perhaps a good idea not to take any CBS as well! Not sure papa Hernandez needs a trip to Australia either. Wonder if there are any good CBS out there who could come back with us?

Spanishleeds

1.) 12 Jul 2019 11:09:00
Ausman and others over there may know better, but as far as I can tell there are no decent CBs playing for Western Sydney Wanderers (their best appears to be Dylan McGowan, who I would not pick ahead of Struijk) and not even any across the city at their more illustrious neighbours Sydney FC.

2.) 13 Jul 2019 03:28:23
Nobody here good enough.

08 Jul 2019 21:37:30
When Bielsa talked about staying, he would have made it very clear what he wanted, what the preferable and positive sales could be. It obviously wasn't a surprise that Pontus would go, and in that knowledge. Kitching, Aappo and Paudie were let go, which means that even with no Pontus, they weren't in the plans. Shaunessy, hasn't gone any where, so, although it would be a surprise to me, he might be featuring preseason.

Likewise it wouldn't be a surprise that we would have offers for JC, KP and Roofe!

Point is, there will be a plan and Bielsa will have ideas for how he can use the squad that he appears to be fine tuning. Like Raggity says below, he deserves the chance. Let's see how we start to play some football.

1.) 09 Jul 2019 10:58:53
Damn you are your profound logic Spanish! 👍🏻.

2.) 09 Jul 2019 12:42:37
Spanish if the plan is to go with Cooper, White and Struik plus makeshifts then most would agree it’s a daft plan . If they pull a top quality replacement out of the hat, then that’s a different story . Problem is Bielsa was on record last year as being happy with the numbers in central defence . He’s now swapped Pontus for White, so I suspect in his myopic eyes all good .

3.) 09 Jul 2019 15:30:51
RHC

As the manager of Leeds United Football Club, do you think it would be a good idea to sit in a media meeting and pronounce that he thinks his centre backs are not up to it?

Really?

This is what you think he should have done?

So how do you think that will motivate Cooper, Jansson, Beradi, Struik, Halme and Diaz?

What support would they have given Biesla for the rest of the season?

Also, every agent of every centre back would have been beating down his door. And ever club with a reasonable centre back would be inflating his fee.

4.) 09 Jul 2019 17:48:47
Axe incorrect . Even the board last Summer tried to persuade him to go for Bartley . He wasn’t interested . His school of thought is pretty much anyone can make a job of CB if they can use the ball . Fine in South America or may be even Spain but not on a wet Wednesday night at the Den it’s not!

Even worse for Ryan! Cancelled games and now out with a 3/ 4 month ankle injury that he got in training and back in Leeds! What a shame for him.

1.) 12 Aug 2020 22:45:55
30 million for Ben White! Leeds can't be so Stupid!

2.) 12 Aug 2020 22:46:50
Poor lad. He’s very young. Shouldn’t harm him long term.

3.) 12 Aug 2020 23:10:56
you worry at times like this if Ryan is going to be one of those players who struggles and doesn’t get the breaks, but he’s a strapping strong lad and he certainly has time on his side, get well soon Ryan.

4.) 13 Aug 2020 00:11:14
Agree Class, such bad luck, got up there had a great start with little prep. Then games cancelled due to teammates picking up the virus, and then he gets injured in training.

12 Aug 2020 20:57:25
Well done Jamie, 4 year contract, great reward for all the hard work. I think that's a contract that says we see him as part of the future. Think he might be squad and bench this year but reminded us of what he could do in the last two games and seemed to form a nice little relationship with Poveda, who really is a new signing for us with the benefit of an extended Bielsa preseason. Really think Shackleton, Poveda and Struick will have a part to play next year.

Think we are handling the arrivals and stayers very professionally this year. Nobody can say we haven't tried with White but I think now we'll see two cheaper CBS arriving and a couple more attacking options.

Spanishleeds

1.) 12 Aug 2020 22:05:29
Well said Spanish, couldn’t agree more.

11 Aug 2020 22:53:53
Disappointed for Ryan Edmundson. Leapt at the opportunity to get up to Aberdeen and play. Came off the bench for the final 30 mins of the first game without training with his team, looked like he could get the nod for the next couple of games only to see them called off due to the antics of some of his teammates! Not the kind of professionalism that he was used to at Leeds. Scottish football not making a good start to the new season.

Spanishleeds

1.) 12 Aug 2020 09:48:24
"Scottish Football" is an oxymoron.

10 Aug 2020 08:42:46
Morning everyone,

Something I've thought about a lot since promotion is what is the objective for this year?

For the last two years the goal was clear, top six and then top two and with a third and a first, think he can say safely achieved. On top of that I just enjoyed the way we were playing football after so long in the wilderness.

But now having finally escaped, I really don't want the club to go back. So for me this first year is about survival and building a base for the future that we can keep adding too. So I'd say 45-50 points! Not really a very sexy objective and not sure it's very Bielsa. What are everyone else's hopes for the season?

Spanishleeds

1.) 10 Aug 2020 09:15:13
I hope you are wrong Spanish I've had 3x 20 quid bets with friends we will be top 8.

2.) 10 Aug 2020 09:56:55
I would be happy with mid table comfort and regular blooding of some young guns Struijk, McCalmont, Bogusz, Shacks, Gotts and Poveda.

3.) 10 Aug 2020 10:52:53
Morning Spanish
I think between 13 - 15th comfortably, but would take 17th, safety secured on last day of season, don't think my nerves would thou.

4.) 10 Aug 2020 11:35:27
The primary objective this season is to stay up.

However, if Leeds make 3 or 4 very good signings with a goalscoring natural finisher an absolute MUST then mid table is feasible 10th to 12th.

5.) 10 Aug 2020 13:47:22
10th and top half would be great for me, really don't fancy a relegation dog fight, going down to the wire.
The current squad is light in numbers and some quality, address that and we could afford to be more optimistic .
Our style of play and team ethos are our biggest strengths.
We need to start being more clinical in front of goal.
So we need more depth to the squad and players to create and take our chances.

6.) 10 Aug 2020 15:26:09
WE are overstocked in the chances dept. but extremely light in goals. A point touched on by Bielsa recently (and by posters on here for many a month so I feel the strongest push will be for a natural goalscorer/ poacher to convert all these chances.

7.) 10 Aug 2020 18:41:21
Absolutely Leodis . a natural goalscorer is the MOST important player signing that needs doing by Leeds United.

8.) 10 Aug 2020 21:13:33
A striker that can score goals and we'll finish 5th. YES 5th. Remember this prediction as I will be reminding you all next year! 😂😂.

06 Aug 2020 08:36:48
I like the way Bielsa takes his time signing a new contract. He is always clear about exactly what he wants and wants to be clear about what the goal of the club is for the year ahead.

It's the second part of that where the problem lies for me. What is the goal of the club for next year and is it a goal that Bielsa would relish? The last two years had clear goals, top six and then automatic, both achieved . When he was initially evaluating the players available it was with those goals in mind and it was a reasonable prospect to stay at the club for 1/ 2 years to do it.

Now we are in uncharted waters, never been at a club for three years and how many more years would he want to stay here as he gets older and he's away from home. Is it enough for him to have one year in the premiership especially if the goal is to survive! If we have a five year plan for top 6 domination, he is unlikely to be part of it.

I think getting Leeds to the premiership was an exciting project for Bielsa, keeping us in it for a year is obviously less sexy, and not really the type of job he has had in his career! I think he will ultimately sign up, because the lure of the premiership for a year at this stage of his career might be too much but equally wouldn't surprise me if he doesn't. I hope this time there is a plan b, particularly as we've let Carlos leave who was non Bielsa staff and would have provided some continuity.

Spanishleeds

1.) 06 Aug 2020 10:26:06
Personally I think it will be a 1 year deal, then he will assess again, I think he is relishing the challenge of doing well with let's face it average players (IMO) ,

2.) 06 Aug 2020 10:49:40
Realistically yr 1 is survival. Yr 2 mid to upper table and yr 3 push for Europe. We have a great team and they smashed the championship last year but if we finish around 12th next season I will be extremely happy. Whether that challenge is enough for biesla I don’t know but you’d think he would def want to give prem one maybe two goes.

Agree Woody and being very professional about how we are bringing people in and signing new contracts for those we want to keep. We are still not getting all the new signings right but then not sure anyone does that all the time. Look at Chelsea and the worlds most expensive goalie and now tipped to buy a goalie!

Don’t think Cody is paper rubbish. Has played all along the back line including a few times as CB! Could be that is where Bielsa fancies him. I think he will be one involved in the wider first team squad. If you don’t wantto be in the Ben White situation all the time this is the kind of risk you need to take.

I think this lad is a bit different than some of the youngsters we’ve brought in before. He was being talked about in the 5 million class before their financial troubles. It’s not about age with these kids it’s about how good they really are, if they have the potential to do really really well then they can do start to do it at a young age. Ditto Charlie Allen from Linfield only 16. If we can start to see some home nurtured strikers coming through it will be great.

It was interesting during the lockdown when there was no under 23 football, the focus of the under 23s was only on supporting the first team with training, squad and bench if required. That period brought Shackleton, Poveda and Struick back firmly into the reckoning. If you read Bamford on Struick, during lockdown Struick was tried as defensive midfield during murder ball and absolutely nailed it. After that the thought of using him and not White grew.

With a premier league 2 programme that level of youth involvement in the first team is harder, but I’m sure that the kids Bielsa really rates and would call on if needed will be the ones filling out the squad numbers, helping out in training sessions and balancing those duties with the under 23s. In that respect who gets the link job between under 23s and first team is important.

Don’t think it will happen Cork, If he goes I think he will go for more than 28 million. Being realistic if Liverpool and Chelsea really are going for him, at this stage of our premiership recovery we can’t compete.

The skill is finding the Whites before they reach the loanable out stage and our lack of Ben whites from our own recent batch of CBS, including, O’Connor, Diaz, Aappo, Shaunessy etc, shows how hard it is. Possibly Pascal remains the hope.

White was a big gamble for us last year and it worked and I think Brighton are taking a big gamble on him now and I think that will work as well. As he is their player, I would build their side around him. I think he is that good! I think he is a big part of Bielsas wishlist and that is why we have gone so strongly for him. For me, watching him defend was one of pleasures of last season. That signature last min boot wrapping around a player to intervene and take the ball away. Just great to watch his reading of the game. Calm, collected, a real professional who I think can have even greater impact bringing the ball forward. Playing every single game, avoiding injury and avoiding suspension, great achievement! Good luck to him.

Seems agreed that 30 million was offered and rejected by Brighton. So surely has to be time to call their bluff and move on. See if Liverpool and Chelsea come in and offer more in which case we would probably never have got him anyway!

If they don’t then down to Brighton to manage their centre backs and make sure he is happy or he winds down his contract and waits for a move. I like him but over 39 million can surely be better spent!

I think they were told to return home pronto! So is it 14 days? Can’t imagine that Bielsa would want to risk other squad members! English football needs to note the two incidences in Scotland that have threatened the Scottish restart and already seen three of Aberdeen’s games postponed. Think it’s easy for players to become complacent and see last season as the the virus season and this season not. Also obviously easier to follow strict instructions for a month Or so of post restart football than to think that these restrictions could be here for the whole 20/ 21 season.

Here in Spain the la liga 2 playoffs are only starting this week because in the final round of games a team involved in the play off race had its game cancelled due to 8 positive tests. Had to wait for quarantine and legal discussions before the game went ahead last Friday and now the play offs can happen and the conclusion still 2 weeks away, so the season finishing near the end of August! Lucky that it didn’t happen until the final round of games.

If you add player infected situations into possible disruption through local town lockdowns, I think this could easily be a very stop go season and harder to get lots of fans back quickly.

Good point other. Our last championship squad was missing, Costa, Phillips, Beradi and Foreshaw. If Cody signs, he will be around the squad. White or replacement and attacking options and we will be struggling to fit everyone into the Bielsa way of working!
