Really looking forward to the Brentford game. Interested to see how the game plays out from a actical point of view. Both teams normally dominate possession, so something has to give. Both teams usually score. Brentford usually concede at least a goal, especially away and they got beat 1-3 at Derby which could be a pointer.

We need to have our scoring boots on and have a safe first 20 mins. We don't want to be giving this team a 2 goal start. 2-1 to us, I hope!

Shaunessy got a full game for the Irish under 21s yesterday which is good news. Against Preston definitely looked rusty. Looks like he played at the back as well.

Liam Kitching and Paudi also had good games again out on loan. Paudi scored and Harrogate are top of their leaue with Kitching playing every game and two goals for him so far. Know its lower leagues but still experience.

Not sure if I'm the only one but getting a bit fed up with some of Pontus's comments to journalists. I don't really care what happened in the summer regarding a transfer with him, if the club was prepared to sell him for a price, I'm sure that happens with lots of players. I'm sure in the past, pontus himself was sniffing around a possible premiership move. He needs to focus on being a regular in the team again and contributing to the great performances. Perhaps he's miffed he is no longer first pick in the defence, but get your head down lad and contribute to getting the team and yourself into the premiership.

1.) 05 Sep 2018 18:44:26
Agree spanish he is fast going from hero to zero, not done his reputation a great deal of good during the last season or so.

2.) 05 Sep 2018 19:32:49
Disagree Spanish. Pontius telling us the truth were as Angus kinnear lied and and told us they rejectected the offer for him. Why?

3.) 05 Sep 2018 20:11:35
Just not sure Martyn if you ever get to find out what really happens in the murky world of transfers with agents wheeling and dealing. Likewise we never really know how much players try and agitates moves. Just becomes a distraction. Glad he didn’t go and hope he gets his head down and makes himself a regular again.

4.) 05 Sep 2018 20:55:22
Good player he is I've never really trusted the man.
He’s always banged on about how much he loves Leeds but I reckon he’d be gone in a shot if offered higher level football and pay rise. Then again I might be wrong?

5.) 06 Sep 2018 00:27:16
He was offered a higher level of football and a big pay rise in Russian top league cork and said no. If he was lying about turning the offer down kinnear and the board would be jumping up and down to clear their names. It's the board I don't trust on this one I think Pontus has done nothing wrong except expose the board for lying to us.

6.) 06 Sep 2018 12:16:22
Fair enough Martyn! Not sure I’d want to go to Russia! Perhaps he feels a bit miffed about how he was treated. Not sure he fits in 100% with Bielsa, but let’s hope that it’s just a bit of response to whatever happened during the summer. If he is at full form, cooper and Beradi playing well, that eases our worries at centre back!

7.) 08 Sep 2018 08:58:01
Martyn you had a right pop off me for calling out on radz and co telling us lies.

8.) 08 Sep 2018 08:58:39
Big bucks in Russia.

01 Sep 2018 13:14:28
Bloody international break! Flip side is that we have a rest and Bielsa has another two weeks to work with most of the players and to analyse what has gone before.

For me two areas that we need to improve on to make a sustained challenge, our performance against the top six and that against the dirtier, tougher, park the bus type teams.

On the first, last year, I think we got 9 points against the top 6 and 1 win. Always difficult to know how the top six will shake up, but if you take Stoke, Derby, Swansea and Borough, that's 8 points, 2 wins and no losses by the international break. No bad start. Like to see us against Villa, Forest, Brentford and West Brom, but there seems to be progress.

Now on the second, Preston showed how tough we can find it against this type of team, ok the B team but our A teams have struggled in the same way in the past. The difference hopefully is Bielsa, but I think we still need to put this one to bed and guess what, we have Millwall away and then Preston at home and Bielsa has two weeks to think about it. I think, strangely enough that if we can deliver two back to back performances against those two teams and 6 points, then we should start to feel that top six is definitely on!

On the other side hopefully we could get Forshaw and Izzy settled in .

Just got back from the game. Well I've watched 3 Leeds games this week and we've got 2 points from them! Don't know how it looked on the tele but the atmosphere was electric, great support, 35 k! Losing Hernandez was a gutter. Shows how important he is to the team and how often he had a hand in a goal somewhere along the line.

Harrison had his best game so far and although Ayling was off defensively he and Douglas pinged some really good pases across the park. Solid game for Bailey and you e said it all about Berardi. Lots of times Alioski was in a good position and we chose not to use him, Saiz, tried but struggled to find the space and make the impact.

But it's another point against one of the seemingly better teams and now a rest!

My Yorkshire travels take me to Barnsley on a beautiful autumn day to watch the under 23s. Team news, more of a under 23 feel to the side today. Ayling plays, the ban obviously only applies to championship games. No Clarke or Blackman, so buffer starts in goal. Edmondson plays so imagine he is not featuring in the squad tomorrow. Aapo only on the bench which is strange unless he is being kept back just in case for tomorrow. No Shaunessy here, so imagine he will bench tomorrow.

Well what a weird game that was, finishe 1-4 to us with an. Edmondson hatrick and fine performance by Clarke Odour playing left back but causing havoc all down the left wing.

We went 1-0 down, were guilty of bad schoolboy defending, could have been 3-0 down, they missed a penalty and it took us until 40th minute to get going and Edmundson, after not touching the ball suddenly had chance after chance and took three of them. After the break there was only one team in it and we coasted.

Not quite sure what was going wrong but Struick was hauled of after 18 mins, replaced with Odour and the defence rejigged and gradually we got back into it.

I think somone mentioned before that without too many first team players, the team spirit of these group really shows through. Great display for Edmundson, do his confidence a world of good, Clarke Odour looks a real find, wonderful feet, scared them to death of the left every time he got the goal and made an inch perfect cross for the final goal. He played left wing back but had a free run down the left . Once we got into the game, Gotts, Stevens and Dalby all had good games. Aapo came on for the final 15 or so and again looked calm and classy at the back.

A really good performance because it shows the ability of the coaching team to identify and sort problems in the play. Some of the defending in the first 30 mins was A bit hilarious as we tried to play out of the back and into lots of trouble.

Another really enjoyable outing.

2.) 19 Oct 2018 22:00:54
Cheers Spanish. Interesting insight. The one thing that gets me is re strujic. he’s been playing so well. What happened?

16 Oct 2018 11:22:12
Hope the only way we response to this "everyone is out to get us" feeling is on the pitch. Use it to galvanise the team spirit and win games. No point accumulating cards and punishments that in the end are only going to hurt us. Lack of discipline contributed to our unravelling last year.

The fans can use it to get to the games, sing their hearts out and never give up, not by throwing stuff on the pitch .

Even Bielsa changing in the heat of battle, contrast the non applauding, bucket sitting coach against Stoke with the reaction against Brentford. Love the passion, but let's not help the detractors by shooting ourselves in the testicles!

Spanishleeds

1.) 16 Oct 2018 12:15:34
Agree Spanish, the throwing of coins and bottles etc was stupid, that sort of thing I thought was consigned to the bad old days. Does us as a club no good what so ever.

2.) 16 Oct 2018 15:49:39
Well said young Spanish, and don't expect any penalties this season (again) now we've gone 50 up and it's been well-publicised the refs won't give any in case they are looked upon as giving a "soft one"

3.) 16 Oct 2018 20:34:02
Agree with you all on this, the bottles and coins throwing is just giving the FA and FL more reasons to have a go at us. I love to see our passionate support, but let's avoid this sort of behaviour.

4.) 17 Oct 2018 15:27:43
It's the South Stand wannabes, the ones that have the LU Service Crew stickers on their cars that were chucking stuff, hopefully they will have been picked up on CCTV and banned.

5.) 17 Oct 2018 17:20:47
Lol Al. True. They’d wet themselves had they been around in the eighties and early nineties. No place for it anymore, so in total agreement with everyone!

12 Oct 2018 15:40:48
Under 23s, good run out for Roofe and Beradi. Roofe put us 2-0 up and we should have had the game wrapped up with the possession and chances we had. Let them back into the game and they took their two clear opportunities. Roofe was played on the wing, beradi left back. Clarke bit of an off day but we didn't get the ball to him much, moved him to centre forward when Dalby came off and he had a couple of opportunities. Shaunessy down to play but went off in the warm up. Baker, some nice touches, quite a few didn't come off. Always feel he should have more impact on games at this level and doesn't quite do it. Forshaw played the full game Diaz looked good with the ball and a good partnership with Struick until the errors crept in during the second half. 2-2.

1.) 13 Oct 2018 00:50:38
Thanks for the post Spanish
Good to hear Berardi roofe and Forshaw are back. They have another week to recover yet. Expect all to start next game. Shame we only drew though!

2.) 13 Oct 2018 06:15:53
After our second goal we didn’t play with the same intensity. Forshaw looks fine. Beradi yellow carded and lucky not to receive a second, so back to his feisty self. I think the result reflecting the the fact, probably quite rightly, that the stability of the u 23 team has been effected by the promotions into the first team squad, Shackleton, Clarke, Edmundson, the first team era looking for match fitness and international break. The team is now changing a lot.
The talking points from yesterday were, Beradi and Shackleton lb and rb, in that order, perhaps an experiment? Roofe on the wing, possibly just a less rigorous introduction?

The defensive 4/ 5 of this team looking good, normally, Robbie Gotts, Leif Davis rb/ lb and then Diaz/ struick / appo Co options.

Corberan not happy with losing the two goal lead. Bielsa there for the whole game with virtually all of the coaching team.

3.) 13 Oct 2018 08:00:39
Food for thought there Spanish.
Lots of interesting scenarios.
Love bs involvement. A very thorough man.
He does inspire confidence even if some players don’t.
Onwards and hopefully upwards!

4.) 13 Oct 2018 10:10:25
Thanks Spani, interesting reading.

5.) 13 Oct 2018 11:45:51
know we have to give first teamers a run out after injuries and such but when half the tea is from the main squad think it loses a bit of enthusiasm. The celebration of the goals sort of showed that. Understand Bielsa uses matches to try different things with players but i enjoy it more when the likes of Kamwa and Stevens are in there battling for a first team spot. Nice to see first team play on the cheap but would rather see 2 or 3 at a time. When over half the team is out its a bit of a training match for them.

6.) 13 Oct 2018 15:46:33
Fair point Bige, you could see that after the second goal went in. It effects the comradarie of the team. Interestingly there is a rule that you can only play three over 23s! It shows how young a lot of our first team squad are because they can creep in under the age rule.

09 Oct 2018 18:14:38
Under 23s playing at Elland Road this Friday at 1pm.

Bielsa has said he has two goals for the international break, 1. Rest for those that need it ( and presumably not playing internationals! )

2. Getting those who need it fit to play.

On that basis, Friday's game provides an opportunity, hopefully not like With Bamford! I reckon Forshaw, Beradi, Baker, Pearce, Shackleton could all get time . Hernandez and Roofe, should they be risked?

Spanishleeds

1.) 09 Oct 2018 18:44:21
Will Brown be close to having some minutes?

2.) 09 Oct 2018 19:53:03
Not sure he is close to that stage yet, not many updates on him .

3.) 09 Oct 2018 20:20:55
Next year for young Izzy.

4.) 09 Oct 2018 20:28:39
Brown way off I believe not until new year.
Lewis Baker is pushing for a start in first team so I’d expect him to play and hopefully play well.

5.) 10 Oct 2018 06:30:25
Looks like Hernandez and Roofe are going to play some part in the game. With only three substitutes, it limits the permutations, Forshaw, Baker could play whole games .
The hope is that brown is ready for the first team in the new year, so might see him getting some under 23 time in December if all is going to plan.

6.) 10 Oct 2018 10:38:10
i know little about brown is he decent and do we honestly think he will make that much of a difference?

7.) 10 Oct 2018 12:14:12
Not sure why we loaned him really. If not fit until next year then 3 or 4 weeks of Bielsa training will be lucky to see him before March. He is a good player but doubt if he his going to show us much this campaign.

8.) 10 Oct 2018 20:03:23
I think Bub wanted him early so he could brainwash him in Bielsaball :)

07 Oct 2018 13:23:22
Superb to see Jack Clarke getting a chance yesterday. Made a few good runs, great cross almost converted and didn't look out classed at 17! Bielsa seems to be handling him well. Hope he now makes the bench regularly and perhaps sharing the right forward workload with Alioski . Having seen him at under 23s, I think Clarke is still working at the defensive running back part of his game which actually Alioski now does pretty well.

Luke Ayling can have a bit of a rest and it's a position where we are reasonably well covered with Berardi and Shackleton . If Berardi is fit, nice to see how he slots back into his natural position and given his recent CB time, might strengthen the defence.

Spanishleeds

1.) 07 Oct 2018 16:48:58
i agree beradi great cover and aling needs a rest he just looks out of sorts, only worry here is beradi don't like to get forward which is something MB demands of FB role, I think if nothing else beradi deserves a bit of a run in his actual position.

2.) 07 Oct 2018 19:53:08
Knowing Bielsa he’ll push Ayling harder in training as he’s not got any games to play. Should give him a rest and go away for a dirty weekend with his wife.

3.) 07 Oct 2018 21:07:38
dirty weekend with me and speedy i love ayliong.

4.) 08 Oct 2018 19:51:23

Alf, you’re not related to Alf Roberts who used to run the corner shop in Corrie are you? He was always a grumpy bugger as well! We are in the best position that we have been in as a club for years, it’s not the same as last years high. Sure we’ve got lots of challenges to come but we’ve done bloody well, the players are giving their all and we’ve got a coaching team that can coach through all levels of the club. Look at what happened with Ekuban, Grot, last year and compare that with Roberts, compare Harrison with Sacko! We’ve missed Hernadez and Roofe for the last 5 games! Give the team a bit of credit!

Alf, he is one of the players struggling to make a mark at the moment. He was rusty in the cup against Preston and they tried him in the under 23s in midfield and he had a bit of a shocker before going off with the injury. With the CB options Bielsa sees for the first team, he’s going to struggle to make the bench and with the options for the under 23s can’t see him in there either. The injury has come at a bad time for him. Hope he recovers quickly from the injury and gets back into the fray.
