DCL, Wilson and Aaronson up front with Stach and Okafor on the bench.

25 Oct 2026 15:47:09
Elvedi out, presumably an injury.

25 Oct 2026 14:16:19
With Bruno Fernandez being dropped today, I half hope Man Utd win.
Then again?

Tell yer what Corkey I'd prefer a couple of Bournemouths forwards be sent off so not to be available for Leeds match next week

Thoughts so far this weekend :

Ireolas Liverpool are coninuing improving currently beating Brighton 2 nil

Emery's Villa are defo going to finish higher than midtable

And

De Zerbis Spuds are not in anyway relegation fodder as suggested by some peeps.

25 Oct 2026 15:35:33
Carrick now on very thin ice, losing 3-0 to Bournemouth on their own sh*ttip

Over the past several weeks posters have been saying how many defensive players we brought in but we really should have brought in attackers. We brought in Wilson and Bahoya neither of whom are being either started or getting a few mins here and there. Wilson in particular was welcomed wholeheartedly when he came what is happening? Some on here say he needs time to bed in, really a top player who needs that much time seems a waste to me.

He was thought by the majority to be an improvement yet fails to make the starting line up. I just wonder what is going on. I am sure some knowledgeable posters will put me right, but I'm just a poster asking a question.

2

25 Oct 2026 12:11:54
They are very good questions. My answers are too soon for French guy. James flattering to deceive, Wilson not doing enough in training. Strange Okafor who to me presents himself as fairly lazy gets the nod. Maybe he just puts the effort in training.

1

25 Oct 2026 12:23:15
It's the system Bri. Unless we go to a back four I can't see Wilson starting much.

2

25 Oct 2026 14:31:27
What Corkey said re HW.

1

25 Oct 2026 14:58:16
Wilson will want out soon he didn’t come to sit on the bench that’s for sure but he knew the system as did Farkey why during him if you don’t fit the way your team plays

25 Oct 2026 01:24:06
Said this a couple of weeks ago. And after watching Villa city game, will repeat it.
Both teams hardly ever passed back to goalie.
Both teams moved the ball quicker out of defense.
Lessons to be learnt there.
I believe premier league football has moved on in the last season or so.

It's not about possession as much now. It's about what you do with the ball when you have it and pressure.
We need less tippy tappy and more direct football.

4

25 Oct 2026 01:44:52
Good post Aus.

I am very old school and wayyy prefer more direct football; and tippy tappy at the back often leads to goal concession by a mistake from your gk or defender by giving ball away in very vulnerable position/area.

and the most frequent number of passes to score a goal is zero ( unassisted goals such as direct free kicks, solo runs or individual dribbles ) followed closely by one pass and two passes.

Most goals are scored with very few passes.

4

25 Oct 2026 07:30:17
You, Old School Baz, i wouldn't have thought that in a million years.

Being flexible and the ability to alternate playing styles to change a game.

Possession football only works if you don't give the ball away too often same as the long ball or a direct press also only works if you deliver the ball directly to your target.

At the end of the day it only boils down to the understanding between players and how well they can pass the ball, whichever way the team plays.

For me the way we played against Newcastle at Elland rd, quick and direct passing with quick thinking forward motion and loads of positive energy.

These kind of games for us though are just one off's, we just don't posses enough quality players to provide these kind of games and results week in week out.
What we do have though is a very hard working team of players with a never say die attitude and I'm very proud of them for that above all.

3

25 Oct 2026 07:50:46
Better to give the ball away in opposition half than ours. Move it forward quickly. Either trying to find a player or just a punt. Dosent matter if it goes out of play. It's in their half and they are under pressure. You are right we don't have the quality opti. We have a band of brothers. Its logic. No tippy tappy.

Get it forward. As Baz says. The stats are very few passes needed for most goals. Albeit our brilliant 11 pass last season. But they are rare. Very very rare.
Why you think a lot of top clubs and national teams kick off to opponents corner flag these days. Get it in their half, pressure and let them make the mistake.

2

25 Oct 2026 08:00:34
It all depends what style the opposition is adopting. If the other team try to press high up the pitch, tippy tappy possession based football can be a dangerous game, risking giving away possession close to your own goal, and it's better to move it quickly up the pitch behind their press and make their defenders run back towards their own goal, which they'll hate.

On the other hand, if the other team go for a low block, a possession based game is better to keep them back in their own half and move them around whilst you look for an opening. I too like "old school" fast attacking football, but sometimes you just have to react to whatever tactics the other team is adopting.

Good follow up posts of differing perspectives Aus, JR and OP.

2

24 Oct 2026 15:16:00
Interesting perspectives regarding our situation. I guess we just need to look at things in perspective. The aim clearly has been to build from the back and be hard to beat so looking at the recruitnent of JT, Elvedi and Gary, big hit, job done. Unfortunately we have to accept we simply didnt have the funds to then go out and spend say £50 million on a Delap or whatever, which looks like it would have been a huge mistake.

The aim clearly is to avoid second season syndrome and survive comfortably, get the dosh rolling in, build and kick on. Should we do so next summer could surprise. For now, expectation can cause disappointment. Lets see how we fare over the next 3 games and build on that hopefully. But its all positive and moving in the right direction peeps, imo of course. UTWDTP.

7

24 Oct 2026 16:20:27
Your valid opinion Davey

But imo a much more balanced approach to recruitment was needed and preferable last summer

We've overspent £100 million on gks and defenders Jimmy Trafford, Zetts, Tarek, Elvedi and the new LB.whilst not keeping enough clean sheets

And adding no goals to our team and squad. no striker signing and zero goals and assists from new signings JB and HW

Next 3 matches will reveal much.if we are still on just 2 wins.from a then 10 matches.pressure is really on.

We really, really need to win at bottom club Sunderland on Sunday.

23 Oct 2026 15:32:01
DCL, Stach and Okafor all doubtful for the weekend.
Nmecha Wilson and new French geezer to come in?

3

23 Oct 2026 16:03:35
DCL is the outfield player we will struggle badly this seez without.

#flawedtransferwindow.

3

23 Oct 2026 23:10:29
Feels like with or without DCL we are set up to first of all not lose and if we nick a win great or we face an opposition like Newcastle that have a nightmare first half defensively we can take advantage but the times we are lucky to have an opponent that implodes are few and far between in the EPL as every team outside the top 4 or 5 set up similarly to Leeds not to lose.

Farke imo could afford to be more daring by playing a back 4 and having an extra attacker in a 4 3 3 formation. Therefore if DCL is missing we can at least play our only other centre forward with two wingers either side and a strong solid midfield 3 infront of a much better defense this season with TM and just one more CB alongside him and that way we have much more chance of worrying the opposition and scoring goals and more focused and set up to actually win the game.

4

23 Oct 2026 23:56:30
Good post Cheshire as ever. Yes, against weaker teams a 4 3 3 formation esp at home is a good shout.

2

24 Oct 2026 01:50:29
We all knew we would struggle if dcl went awol Baz didn't we. Just the owners that were willing to gamble on that.
Neither Okafor or stach have been great so no loss there unless he replaces stach with Longstaff.

I expect formation to be the same.
It would indeed be nice to see the French lad start corkey but no chance of that.
Would prefer gruev French guy and gnonto 😬
Will be ba namecheck and James most like.

1

24 Oct 2026 02:32:25
A gamble indeed Aus ;

Leeds went from making a formal offer for striker JSL in January

yet then perversely signed no striker at all in summer window when our one and only back up striker is Nmecha who hasnt scored I believe for a very large amount of matches

Praying that DCL will be fit for Sunderland.

2

24 Oct 2026 03:03:02
Despite the rumous, I'll not be surprised if DCL, Stach and Okafor are all fit to play. Rather than a 4:3:3, I'd prefer to keep the current back 5 but go from 3:5:2 to 3:4:3 still having 2 wing backs but sacrificing one midfielder (say Stach) for an extra forward (say Wilson) .

Assuming everyone fit bar Rodon, my lineup:
Trafford
Gary, Elvis, Justin
Gabby, Amps, Tanaka, Bogle
Okafor, DCL, Wilson.
Poss subs in 2nd half:
Bahoya for Okafor
DJ for Wilson or Bogle
Bijol for Elvis or Justin or Gary
Stach or Gruev for Amps or Tanaka
Nmecha for DCL
Bard for Gabby.

1

24 Oct 2026 11:22:48
I think DCL and Stach will probably be available on Sunday! Both bruises rather than muscle injuries! Would like to see Bahoya get some decent time!
Interesting stats about Gabby.
1st of 130 defenders for ball carrying and 7th for crossing! Very underrated player!

2

24 Oct 2026 16:21:57
DDSW. bottom line though. how many goals and assists this seez and last seez has Gabi got ?

1

24 Oct 2026 17:04:08
We are better this season than last with our recruitment better goalkeeper and addition defender we have to be positive the team are well drilled play for each other are back there manager we will win top ten it will be. Some have little faith.

1

24 Oct 2026 18:21:39
If the chances he creates from his crosses are not scored that's not Gabbys fault. I'd say he has a few assist assists where his crosses lead to goals but not directly.

2

24 Oct 2026 21:07:04
After today's results, if we win tomorrow (possible) , Brentford only draw with Hull (also possible) and Liverpool lose or draw against Brighton (also possible) then we'll be 4th. Probably too many "ifs" there, but who knows.

On the other hand, if everything goes tits up we could be as low as 10th.☹️.

2

25 Oct 2026 07:32:28
Exactly Corky, playing well and contributing positively to the team does not always show up in goals and assists. Always enjoy watching Gabby bombing forward.

1

25 Oct 2026 09:30:42
Yep fair point Corky and DDSW.

2

23 Oct 2026 15:04:32
Just heard that the cost of the new football regulator are now going to be over £20m per year compared to the original estimate of £10m.
Premier League inflation again and I haven't even mentioned balls.

2

24 Oct 2026 03:08:58
Since the Football regulator is a Government mandated body, I never expected it to be cheap. By the time it's fully up and running it'll likely be north of £50M.

2

21 Oct 2026 20:49:41
Good result for Villa this evening.
Looking once again at their team sheet are they much better than Leeds United?
If anything I'd have more Leeds players in a combined eleven.
Interesting to me.

3

21 Oct 2026 21:22:08
Yeah, for instance would say Mings and 32 year old Ross Barkley ( remember him as a teen playing on loan at Leeds United 14 years ago) get into our team ?

But what Villa definitely do have is a multiple trophy winning excellent coach in Emery !

3

21 Oct 2026 21:59:40
Villa have an excellent manager that's for sure.

4

22 Oct 2026 11:08:39
And Manzambi is looking like a very good buy.

1

22 Oct 2026 13:01:39
Thats probably why our manager was only given a two year extension to his contract. I guess they sit and look at other results of teams we play see how other team do against them as we all do as posted Or some sort of analysis.

If unfortunately if our loss don't turn to draws and I draws turn to wins as wished above things will move on.

5

23 Oct 2026 12:34:59
Unai Emery is a good coach but he's not an elite coach in my opinion.
He's got a knack for winning the UEFA cup but I can't see him getting anywhere near a Champions League final especially with the team he's got now.

I still believe Villa bent the financial rules to get themselves a quality team and sadly for them through their big spending and dodgy accounting they've had to pay the price by shedding their top stars.

I haven't got much time for Aston Villa and Emery, they've got some proper Champions League games coming up soon which will probably put their progress into a more realistic scenario.
As for their league campaign I don't see them higher than mid table by the end of season.

All pink fluff but no real substance and I'm looking forward to see how are own coach deals with Emery and his team at Elland rd.

1

23 Oct 2026 12:52:35
Much tougher tests lie ahead for the Villa in Europe - next three games; Barcelona and Galatasary (both away) , then PSG at home!

3

23 Oct 2026 13:18:26
Regrettably OP we have already seen how Farke dealt with Emery last seez when Farke's Leeds lost to Emery's Villa at ER

Emery is a very good manager would lurve him at Leeds ; he is without doubt better than Farke.

I greatly enjoyed the Bielsa Leeds teams memorably winning at Villa 3 -2 and 3 -0.hopefully Leeds can at least beat Villa once this seez.

3

23 Oct 2026 14:04:23
That was then Baz, this is now. Will Emery's Villa beat Farke's United this time, we shall see. Manzambi has been a fantastic addition, and Jackson has been better than I thought he'd be, but their other new signings have been now't special, so I think we can (and should) do better agin then this time.

1

23 Oct 2026 14:44:59
Villa improving all the time. Without a doubt finish in top 8. Regardless of their next three games in Europe. Who gives a. They are gelling and on the up.

2

23 Oct 2026 14:50:40
Hopefully we can and do beat Villa this seez JR.

Kick off time though early 1230pm Villa vs Leeds Boxing Day so we will need to show up metaphorically.

1

23 Oct 2026 17:53:50
Probably won't win because it's away and not an evening kick off. Players and coach won't turn up because they'll have eaten too much Xmas pud.
Let's all sing a long together and have our Christmas wish of Dick Emery as our new coach.
Farke out, greasy German sausage.

4

23 Oct 2026 19:20:49
Spot on OP lol 😂.

2

23 Oct 2026 21:17:21
Thought you'd like that Baz.

2

21 Oct 2026 19:38:54
Maybe you were right Corkey

Man U are indeed crap ( currently losing 4 nil to Como)

If so, it makes our draw at home at the weekend more disappointing

Hopefully Leeds beat bottom side Sunderland away on Sunday to make up for it a tad.

3

21 Oct 2026 20:11:45
Let's be honest, apart from Newcastle ur home form hasn't been good enough. We need an away win then beat Spurs.

6

21 Oct 2026 20:35:13
Man U at this moment in time are extremely poor under Carrick. I actually thought he had the making of a good coach at Boro.
Farke didn't help our cause at the weekend as he was too negative. Bringing on Longstaff instead of Wilson or the new French dude said it all.

Expect more of the same as last season with draws a plenty.
In saying that I'd take 47 points again this season, mainly because we lack forwards and rely on DCL too much.
Poor recruitment up top.
Excellent recruitment in central defence.

5

21 Oct 2026 20:51:18
Agree Corkey. We're difficult to beat but at the moment we're not going to overwhelm the opposition, apart from Newcastle who are lambs to the slaughter. The defensive recruitment was top class but we didn't add much experience at the sharp end apart from Wilson and he's struggling to get his act together. Maybe we see what's available in January.

5

21 Oct 2026 20:51:22
Exactly. what I came onto say Corky, our game Utd were woeful Sunday and we were their equal, game was crying out for. some. creativity and Farke bottled it

It really shows how poor they are now and we couldn't capitalize on that

Quiet possibly Carrick's last few games now
He's gonna get tic tacked.

5

22 Oct 2026 01:12:40
Carrick did have the makings of a good coach when he was at Boro, but then he chose to sup from the poisoned chalice that is Crapchester United. Once he gets the sack, and he will before too long, he'll soon get his mojo back like Amorim has done at AC Milan.

2

22 Oct 2026 08:34:11
Carrick is still a good manager, but still learning. If his side had the same ethos as ours, they would be doing much better, but they have individuals, who moan, gripe and whine at every turn, and undermine him. Fernandes is not a captain in any definition of the term; he's just a weakly rat! They'd be better off sticking with Carrick, and clearing the decks of those disruptive players.

Lesser players with a better attitude would deliver more, and give them the foundation to build from, pretty much as Farkey is doing with us!
A lot of Leeds fans wouldn't look outta place playing for that team right now: moan, gripe and whine at every turn!

3

22 Oct 2026 12:00:53
Imo I can think of a lot of very talented multiple trophy laden players and managers who are well known for" moaning, griping, whining and whinging" during and after matches.

So its really the other issues of often not playing as a team as a collective, more as individuals, so at times giving much less than 100% in effort and desire at times for the cause with Fernandez although talented player defo not captain material. and they have weaknesses in defence for sure.

1

22 Oct 2026 12:37:35
Doesn't matter what crap they are and we still didn't beat them.
That's disappointing, isn't it?

3

22 Oct 2026 13:04:40
The pressure and expectation was on us at Elland rd for a change, but I fancy it won't be at Old Trashyard and we'll beat them again.

2

22 Oct 2026 13:56:37
We didn't beat them because we are one of those teams they least like to be beaten by, so they tried just that little bit harder. Agin Como, they came out thinking it was going to be a walk in the park, but 2 minutes in found that wasn'8t the case.

Paz for Como was outstanding and ran the show til he was subbed off, by which time it was all done and dusted.

1

23 Oct 2026 07:35:54
Are you say we just ain't good enough to beat a team many call crap not Playing for the manager who are in disarray don't have the right attitude respect or basically that we were just unlucky on the day. 🤷🏻‍♂️.

1

23 Oct 2026 08:39:10
I think its more a case of their players knowing that if they lose to us, the fans will get after "them", not the manager, so as JR says, upping their game! Giving that extra bit for every 2nd ball, in every challenge, to get to an over hit pass etc.

They were doing it vs us to save their own skins, individually, so that they wouldn't be the ones to face the wrath of the media and fans for losing to "us". They don't appear to show that level of endeavour vs everyone, and certainly not vs Como.

23 Oct 2026 15:05:00
Fair point Bright.
