Does anyone know if we are allowed to pick any of the returning loanees for the final three games?

Thinking of Cresswell, Shacks and Hjelde as they won't be involved in the play-offs.

Cleggy

{Ed002's Note - No, they are not available.}

As a complete aside to the World Cup, the unspeakable behaviour of David Sullivan at West Ham!

Being banned from attending your own club's women's matches!

And the complicit nature of West Ham officials/management who didn't make this public knowledge!

Then there's Karen Braddy who hopefully will get her comeuppance when all of this comes out.

If she knew about it, why didn't she say something, and if she didn't know then a plea of ignorance is not acceptable. You're a director of the club for Christ's sake.

What a thoroughly nasty, vile episode this is rapidly becoming.

1.) 11 Jun 2026 17:21:47
He has been banned from attending WHU Women's and youth team games since 2023. Brady must have known that. She resigned in April, so did she have an inkling these allegations were coming out?

2.) 11 Jun 2026 19:52:23
Reminds me a little of Al Fayed's Fulham and what went on there. I've no idea the specificity of what's going on with Sullivan, but the parallels are obvious, sadly.

3.) 12 Jun 2026 11:48:51
Is anyone surprised by all this Sullivan stuff?
A massive porn baron in the 80s and 90s, he was always a shady character. Strange how it is all coming out in the media now, forty years later? Well, not that strange, really, as potential historical crimes are all the rage.

Before the World Cup starts tomorrow, name your best ever Leeds United World Cup X1.

Must be 442 or 433.

Must have been a Leeds player when they appeared at the World Cup - you have to state the year they appeared. For example, you can't name someone who was brilliant at a WC then signed for Leeds afterwards (Roque Junior in 1994 springs to mind - not that anyone in their right mind would name Roque Junior but you get the idea.)

Good luck guys.

:)

Cleggy

1.) 10 Jun 2026 18:56:40
For clarification, went to the WC or played at a WC?
Norman Hunter would be the example, Cleggy.

2.) 10 Jun 2026 19:05:53
Great question but way too much like hard work for me.

3.) 10 Jun 2026 19:18:15
Harvey 1974
Kelly 1994
Charlton 1966
Hunter 1996 (Radebe 1998 if not eligible)
Harte 2002
Bremner 1974
Adams 2022
Lorimer 1974
Aaronson 2022
Clarke 1970
Hasselbaink 1998.

4.) 10 Jun 2026 19:35:52
You can have went as well as played. Remember, we are trying to find those who excelled at a WC in a Leeds shirt. Sorry for any confusion.

5.) 10 Jun 2026 19:38:51
I've gone for:

Harvey 74

Mills 02
Cooper 70
Charlton 66
Radebe 02

Hunter 70 (played in midfield when he came on)
Bremner 74
Lorimer 74

Clarke 70
Charles 58
Jordan 74.

6.) 10 Jun 2026 20:01:29
Good question, Cleggy. Yours is the best selection (so far) .

I quite like Canada's choices, maybe not so much Adams and BA. Ideally, supreme talents Strach and Gsry Mac would be in the mix.

But, the Scottish coach Andy Roxburgh made a right mess of his disastrous WC 1990 final squad selections.

7.) 10 Jun 2026 20:32:34
Ok, here goes, but I ain't putting down the years.
Harvey
Kelly
Cooper
Big Jack
Hunter
Bremner
Frank Gray
Ferdinand
Jimmy
Clarke
Charles.

8.) 10 Jun 2026 20:40:00
Jeez, Cleggy, follow your own rules ffs haha.
Wasn't Charles a Juventus player in 1958?

9.) 10 Jun 2026 21:43:06
Ooh, you've got me there, Canada. I'll have to look that one up.

It's such a shame that players such as Eddie Gray 74 (injury) , Arthur Graham 78 (amazingly not selected) , Reaney 70 (injured) , Madeley 70 (booked a family holiday after not making the original selection) never got to go, plus the likes of McQueen not getting a game in 74, Currie 78 when England failed to qualify, and Giles (before the Republic became a force) .

Hopefully the four guys we've got at this year's event will all have decent tournaments.

10.) 10 Jun 2026 21:47:10
My apologies, Canada, you're quite right. He left to go to Juventus in the summer of 57. For some reason, I got in my mind it was 58 - my bad!!

11.) 10 Jun 2026 21:47:23
My god, Baz, how did I miss Stachan and Mac, embarrassed. ?

12.) 10 Jun 2026 21:53:02
Hmm, Baz, I missed them because they didn't play in a WC when Leeds players did. Mac didn't even play in one, apparently.

13.) 10 Jun 2026 22:48:38
Yes Canada, as I stated above, coach Andy Roxburgh and Scotland had a disastrous WC finals in 1990.

Not even selecting an in the form of his life Strachan, and bench-warming McAllister.. he got what he deserved.. nowt.

14.) 11 Jun 2026 01:56:32
Here's my selection, Cleggy:
Nigel Martyn 1998/2002
Danny Mills 2002
Jack Charlton 1966/1970
Lucas Radebe 1998/2002
Tony Dorigo 1990
Gordon Strachan 1982/1986
Billy Bremner 1974
Norman Hunter 1966/1970
Peter Lorimer 1974
Alan Clarke 1970
Joe Jordan 1974

Like you, John Charles was one of the first names on my team sheet til I realised he'd left us by 58.

In 1958, Charles was injured in the final group stage match and missed the rest of the tournament, although Wales still qualified for the knockout stage.

Wales were eventually knocked out in the quarter final by Brazil thanks to a goal from some guy called Pele, and Brazil went on to win the World Cup. The Welsh manager later said "With John Charles in the side we might have won." What a player that man was.

15.) 11 Jun 2026 10:13:55
Interesting post, JR, re 1958 WC and JC.

16.) 11 Jun 2026 11:38:12
Under the rules at the time, at the end of the group stage, Wales and Hungary were dead level and had to play an extra playoff match. Hungary knew that JC was the biggest threat to them and targeted him heavily, and as a result he was injured and had to withdraw.

Despite the Hungarian thuggery, Wales still won, but the injury prevented JC from playing in the subsequent quarter final against Brazil. Would they have won if he'd played? Who knows, but a match with him on one side and Pele on the other would have been a mouthwatering event.

17.) 11 Jun 2026 11:54:28
A good team there, Jr. I think we could put two strong sides out.

06 Jun 2026 10:00:34
Only two weeks since the season ended and already bored!

No transfer activity (yet) , Trump and Infantino's 'love-in' World Cup about to start (which will probably be the poorest ever) , a farcical test match at Lords played on the equivalent of a parks pitch, French Open tennis with all the big names out, the 'let's see who gets on pole position and therefore wins the Monaco Grand Prix' tomorrow.

Bored, bored, bored!

To relieve the boredom how about a quick Saturday quiz;

Name your best ever Welsh Leeds United X1 - 442 or 433 formation (in other words, you can't have six strikers or three goalkeepers - must be in their regular positions)

Cleggy

1.) 06 Jun 2026 10:35:22
Sprake

Stevenson, Rodon, Ampadu, Roberts
Speed, Yorath, Vinnie Jones, Brian Flynn
Charles Rush.

2.) 06 Jun 2026 10:37:14
World Cup 26 likely dullish in group stages, but hopeful of some exciting games later on.

Spain to win (or Brazil) .
England quarter finalists.

Transfer window wayyy too long and not fun.

French GS tennis.

The women tourno has been a breath of fresh air. The Polish qualifier winning it would be sensational for tennis.

Cricket. OK, yes, pitch too much in favour of bowler, but I am still really enjoying the match.

3.) 06 Jun 2026 10:48:41
Baz Welsh Leeds United Eleven.
4 4 2 formation.

GK Gary Sprake (edges Darlow) .
RB Matt Jones (or Connor Roberts if loans allowed) .
CB Joe Rodon.
CB Ethan Ampadu.
LB Byron Stevenson.
RW Carl Harris (edges Dan James) .
CM Vinnie Jones.
CM Terry Yorath.
LW Gary Speed.
STR Ian Rush.
STR John Charles (Leeds United greatest ever player) .

4.) 06 Jun 2026 10:57:58
I quite enjoyed the last World Cup but this has all the hallmarks of being bats***. What were they thinking, giving it to USA? wtf do they know about football? All those stupid phrases make me puke.

5.) 06 Jun 2026 11:15:27
Err, Aus.. what phrases?

And

USA know far more about football than blooming Qatar (the holders of the previous WC that you enjoyed) .

6.) 06 Jun 2026 11:55:23
Darlow.
Roberts, Rodon, Ampadu, Stevenson.
Flynn, Jones, Yorath, Speed.
Rush, Charles.

Sprake - No way.

7.) 06 Jun 2026 11:57:53
No Mickey Thomas or Brian Flynn??

8.) 06 Jun 2026 12:29:17
Good job I picked up on zee Welsh part just in NIC of time ???, I thought has Cork + Baz lost their farkin minds or what?

Rush ahead of Viduka 1 of many mental calls when you have concept totally wrong ???

9.) 06 Jun 2026 13:21:10
On pure ability, not taking into the equation off the field goings on, for me, Sprake was a far better keeper than Darlow. Good shouts above, though. Rush and the great John Charles in their pomp would be some strike force!

10.) 06 Jun 2026 13:25:50
Interest is probably waning for the WC because there are too many teams in it, and it has become too political, especially with the boot-licking antics from Infantino when he was at the White House visiting the self-appointed greatest man who has ever lived.

11.) 06 Jun 2026 13:49:01
LUFCfeath, yes. Sprake's ability was far better than Darlow. Shame about his annoying, crucial, high-profile clangers. Not going to refer to his off-field shenanigans or false bs, which is what maybe JR has also factored into his rating.

Brighty.

Micky Thomas and Brian Flynn get into the Wrexham all-time Welsh 11, but defo not Leeds United all-time Welsh 11. imo

Chrissy meep meep. Yep, Vinnie and Yorath ahead of Bremner and Giles should have been a biggggg clue of the particular Welsh theme.

12.) 06 Jun 2026 14:21:20
Loans are allowed, so you can have Roberts.

I must admit I'd put Darlow just above Sprake - as you say, Sprake could commit the odd howler which blotted his copy book for me.

With the passing of time, you forget how good a player someone like Terry Yorath was.

John Charles, a bit before my time, but from everything everyone has ever said about him, then there's no way you could leave him out.

More to follow during the week, guys.

13.) 06 Jun 2026 14:40:13
You read me like a book, Baz. For me, Sprake's accusations about the Don make him a non person for me, and I'd not touch him with the longest bargepole available. I am old enough to have seen John Charles at his best in his last season for us before going to Juventus, and he was as good as his record suggests if not better.

That season, in the old 1st Division, he scored 38 goals in 46 games.

14.) 06 Jun 2026 15:33:58
Totally agree, JR, regarding Sprake's bitterness towards LUFC later in life, and his awful accusations regarding DR. I had the pleasure of meeting JC at a Sportsman's Dinner in the 90s. What an absolute gentleman he was.

He told a tale that a Leeds director at the time, who owned a garage, gave him a voucher for a full tank of petrol for winning the Man of the Match Award, and JC said, "He knew I didn't own a bloody car!"

15.) 06 Jun 2026 15:36:16
Cleggy, you should have watched Yorkshire last night thrash Lancashire in the T20. It was excellent viewing!

16.) 06 Jun 2026 17:25:30
Good shout Carl Harris there, Baz.

24 May 2026 18:52:02
I know we are all disappointed by today's performance - never nice to lose a game, especially the last match of the season but when all is said and done, which one of us wouldn't have taken 14th at the start of this season?

Admittedly it got a bit too close for comfort a couple of times but all in all, it's been a really solid first year back in the prem.

Delighted for Daniel Farke - first time he's gone up and stayed up, and considering where we were at half time against Man City a few months ago, the man deserves all the praise he gets.

On to next season - it starts now, let's for once, get our transfer business done early!

Only a couple of our guys going to the World Cup so everyone else can enjoy the break and come back refreshed and ready to go (hopefully alongside a handful of quality newcomers) .

In the meantime guys, let's all sit back and enjoy England (and Scotland) , whilst watching the shenanigans of idiot boy Trump and arse-licking, money-grabbing Infantino, at the World Cup.

Enjoy your summer guys, no matter what you've got planned.

MOT guys. :)

1.) 24 May 2026 22:52:53
Good post, Cleggy, on all your thoughts. I will say I thought the first half we were the best side, but we didn't create a clear-cut chance. West Ham were better than us in the second half, and deserved the win.

3 nil maybe harsh, and a bit of a disappointing end to a more than satisfactory season. Some food for thought for the powers that be, that we have some players in the squad who aren't good enough for the PL.

2.) 24 May 2026 23:34:55
It's going to be an interesting summer, Feath, that's for sure.

If we can recruit as well as we did last year, then we'll be pretty decent from the off come August.

3.) 25 May 2026 08:35:14
It is, Cleggy, because we can't stand still with that squad. I know the likes of Piroe and James haven't had much game time, but when they have, they have produced very little.

4.) 25 May 2026 10:43:52
Good posts fellaaaaas! Enjoy your respective summers!

18 May 2026 13:48:18
Here's a thought.

In order to prevent future ugly scenes at a football match, why doesn't the Scottish FA deduct Celtic 3 points for their 'fans' unbelievable behaviour this weekend.

Might make them think twice in future? Probably not - you need a brain in order to think.

Returning home - I don't know why, but I still have a feeling that Spurs are going down this season.

Please don't put any money on it. I'm not known for my punditry!

Cleggy

1.) 18 May 2026 14:02:32
You would think Chelski players will be up for beating Spuds, but I have my doubts.

Spuds to get a draw, and guaranteed safety.

They also don't lose vs out of form Everton in final game.

Spuds were never going down.

2.) 18 May 2026 15:39:00
The Chelsea players will all have Alonso at the fore of their minds, so will want / need to perform in their last 2.

As a West Ham fan has said: "Although I'm convinced Spurs will lose to Chelsea and Everton, it won't make any difference, as we will lose to Leeds coz we're S***!." ??
Think he's right about the Spuds, but if Spam have a chance on the final day, then that will be one hell of a game to watch!

3.) 18 May 2026 16:18:16
I'm torn to be honest.

On the one hand, I would be happy for it to be done and dusted and there be nothing to play for for West Ham; we all enjoy a party afternoon as Leeds fans with a nice victory in our final game.

Then.

Chelsea [new manager] and Everton have to still be fighting for those final European places, and so THS get no more points, and it is down to West Ham getting a victory over us.

On the whole, I still feel that my preference is that THS are relegated, although that relies on West Ham beating us. I genuinely felt that West Ham would have got something from Newcastle, but they were dreadful. I hoped that would have eliminated this dilemma.

4.) 18 May 2026 17:19:46
I agree on the preference for Tottingham to go down, Ani!

5.) 18 May 2026 23:12:29
How about Spuds to lose both their last 2 games, and Sham to beat us and avoid the drop? I don't want that, but can see it happening.

Just watched the Portugal game - can now add to your list, JR:
Messi - 1 game, 3 goals.
Mbappe - 1 game, 2 goals.
Haaland - 1 game, 2 goals.
Ronaldo - 1 game, 2 touches!

Seriously, Ron, it's time to call it a day.

Portugal have every chance of winning the tournament - providing they bench Ronaldo!

Love to have Wilson, but somehow can't see it happening. Not convinced we should go back in for Jimmy - probably too expensive for us now.

I'm going to have faith in our recruitment team. They didn't do too bad a job last summer. Stach, Bijol, Gudmundssn, DCL plus Nmecha all turned out to be excellent signings.

More of the same this summer, please.

We did wear red as our away kit in the very early seventies - soon replaced by the classic all yellow away strip.

Agree with JR and Baz. We're not going to sell too many replicas!
