Following on from my post yesterday (name the players you would like Leeds to have signed over the years - simple rules: must be realistic, you can only sign people we could have afforded at the time and, must be in the time period you've been following Leeds) .
You are allowed to choose players we were linked with, on the verge of signing but didn't or simply someone you wish we'd signed.
Here's my X1:
1- Peter Shilton (if Cloughie had remained, he would have signed him)
2 - John Gidman (we should have signed him around 77/78, excellent full back at the Villa at the time)
3 - Ben Chilwell (a lot of us were calling for cover at left back - he's an excellent player. Wages would be an issue though)
Centre backs - Bobby Moore (wanted to sign for Leeds according to his wife Tina) and Kevin Beattie (not aware of him being linked with us but he would have made a brilliant replacement for Norman Hunter)
Midfield -
Graeme Souness (we were in discussions in the mid 70s - direct replacement for King Billy)
James Garner (we should have beaten Everton for his signature!)
Gerrie Muhren (a bit left field this one - Arnold Muhren's older brother. Ipswich went for Arnold in the late 70s. Pity we didn't go for this brilliant playmaker a couple of years earlier)
Upfront -
Andy Gray (Villa took the chance on the Scot and he proved to be an out and out goalscorer - if only we had gone for him when big Joe Jordan went)
Trevor Francis (another we would have got had Cloughie remained - Francis always said that he wanted to play for Leeds)
Jared Bowen (could/should have signed him during Bielsa's reign, and should have had another go this summer)
Your turn guys - Baz mentioned Pat Jennings yesterday, an excellent choice.
JR also suggested 'your worst X1', those we should never have signed!
I'm going to add Roque Junior to his list!

Be interested Cleggy if you have any suggestions for a pacy supreme defender LB in the DOL era 1997 to 2002.
Although Ian Harte was supreme on free kicks.against good teams he was a weak defensive link imo
Ashley Cole comes to mind but he was firmly a Gooner in that period.

Glenn Hoddle 1979.
When our creative talisman Tony Currie very regettably left.I would have loved Leeds to have signed Glenn Hoddle from Spuds.
Leeds unwisely failed to sign a creative midfielder in any of the next 3 seasons and it played a huge part in their eventual relegation in 82.

I must say, apart from the obvious (Haaland, Messi, Mbappe and Kane) , I've been struggling to spot anyone who has really stood out for me at the World Cup - or should I say, anyone that we could afford!
I'm rather more optimistic that our recruitment team have been turning their attention away from the American continent and focusing on Europe in an attempt to snaffle up a few more top signings like last season.
Another Bijol, Stach and DCL would do very nicely, thank you.
Must add, delighted with Harry Wilson - excellent signing.
And here's one from left field (and will take cover immediately after mentioning him) - Mason Mount.
Yes, he is from the dark side (but then so were Johnny Giles and Gordon Strachan, and they certainly never let us down) .
Yes, he'll be on big money but how ambitious are we? He might want to renew his partnership with Wilson?
And yes, his injury record is abysmal (but then so was DCL's until he came to us) .
As I say, very left field but if all of the above reasons turned from negative to positive you've got a top drawer player who on his day can produce the goods at the highest level.

You must be being selective in your World Cup viewing. I can proudly announce I've watched every single game in some format, and there are heaps better than we have at available price. Just need to look at less popular teams to get value.
Austria. Kongo. Switzerland varde nz. Aus. Pretty much, every nation has better than we have in all positions. Affordable too. Our recruitment is not up to it.

However, unbeaten going into the international break, sitting in 5th position and with nine points on the board.
I would have settled for that at the beginning of the season.

If we manage to beat a depleted-ish palace next week we're well on our way to a solid season.
We're playing well but I still glance at the relegation zone. And six points or two whole games clear is a nice feeling. I wouldnt say we've had top tier difficult games. But we haven't played any of the newly promoted either.
So many good performances, if anything it was Traffords loosest performance so far and not bad by a long shot.

We haven't had really tough games BKB, but we only got 2 points from those same fixtures last season. I'm not tempting fate, but I'm interested too see what the difference will be versus Arsenal next month.

Agree we haven't had top tier difficult yet. But none of the teams we've played either are pushovers. Forest away Brentford at home Brighton away and Newcastle home. There's no top six and no newly promoted in that run.
Arguably a good time to play forest before they signed Delap and Munoz. Arguably a bad time to play Brighton before euro fatigue hits them.

Apologies for the radio silence, Gents, that time of the year!
My call for us to get our business done early fell on deaf ears again (not that the hierarchy at Leeds listen to me anyway!) but it would have been nice just for once to go into the season with everyone we want on board, and those that we don't already shipped out!
Having said that, I'm thrilled with the three we have bought in - quality signings.
I'm in no doubt there are at least 2 or 3 more to come through the door, ideally a striker and a CAM but I have a feeling we will have to wait until probably the last moment before this is sorted (it's just how we are as a club) .
As for the forthcoming season, this may not sound terribly exciting or ambitious but I'd like to have a similar season to the likes of Everton and Fulham last year - middle of the table, comfortable, no danger of relegation but no real promise of a European spot either.
That will do me just fine for now!
So, whilst I hope that we will do a last minute swoop on Man City for Haaland and Cherki, back in the real world, let's see if we can squeeze in another couple of signings of similar quality to the three we've already got and have an enjoyable and panic free season.

In the same vein, I have spent virtually my whole adult life trying to find the name of a program [I think] I watched when I was very very young, maybe only 2 or 3 years old. I know where we lived at the time, so I know that is the age I must have been.
The only thing I can remember, or think I remember was that at the start, opening credits, a car is seen driving over a cliff, then the next thing I can remember, is the wreck of said car being towed through a town; the strange bit about this memory and why I have always tried to find it, is that the "wreck" appeared to have been made of paper or similar and was still smouldering like paper would [glowing edges etc].
Safe to say, with so little memory, even if it is a real memory I have never found this program; it must have been the mid sixties?
Anyone have any ideas, or should I make an appointment with a shrink, since it really bothered me in a sinister way back in the day.and still does.

One other thought: there are quite a few people online with similarly vivid but fragmentary TV memories from the 1950s and 1960s. Forums such as the British Film Institute's discussions, the TV Cream community, and "I Remember This TV Show" communities have solved surprisingly obscure mysteries from just a single remembered scene.
And no, you almost certainly don't need to book an appointment with a shrink! Childhood memories from the ages of two or three are often emotional snapshots rather than accurate recordings. A single eerie image, especially one involving fire or a wrecked car, can stay with someone for a lifetime even if many of the surrounding details have become mixed together.

Thanks for the insight Aft This what I remember:
The program was black & white.
The program was live action
I seem to remember watching this program or at least this event numerous times.
The car going over the cliff was white.
It definitely was the opening sequence.
I can't be sure about the cliff, but thinking about it now, I never see the car land (or explode)
Now this is the part that I always felt was sinister, the car (made of burning paper) is driving itself through the town.
Baz, 2 to 3 years olds do remember things and I certainly remember much about my childhood before school. I remember much, including detail conversations I was having. I have always remembered this, not least because it disturbed me so much at the time.

As unusual as it might seem, I can remember quite vividly trips in my pram etc. Not that it matters, but throughout my working career I had a reputation for an unbelievable memory. I don't know why, but remember the most obscure and incidental things, that I fail really understand why I do. I remember things that do not merit remembering, but I do.
Here's an example. I grew up in the Lake District, on a farm, miles from our nearest neighbours. I lived on one particular farm until I was 4.Me and my younger brother would spend the entire days exploring and adventuring over the hills, miles from home. (It was different in the 60's) . Part of our adventure was to hide provisions (bottles of water / weapons! and the like) in case we got lost (we never did of course) .
Last year, nearly 60 years later, I took my brother back there for his first time since we lived there. We stayed near the farm (though it's no longer a farm) . Whilst there we found 2 bottles of water and some twine we used to make bows with, still in the dry stone walling we left it in.

Name your 'top Leeds United targets X1' of all time.
In other words, players we could/should have signed (or you wish we had signed) .
There's a rule though - you have to be 'fairly' realistic, in other words, although we would all have liked to sign a Messi or Mbappe, at the time we simply couldn't have afforded them.
