Karl Darlow in talks with Tottenham and ***chester over becoming their backup keeper.

SpicyDave

1.) 09 Jun 2026 10:19:21
Why would he go to Spurs. Devon possibly attractive cause of dosh and Euro football.

2.) 09 Jun 2026 11:59:45
Agree, Aus. Onana back from loan from Trab, but he's been told he's not wanted, and Bayindir isn't good - too many mistakes, and not physical enough, so they have Tom Heaton. KD, unfortunately, would be a good back up keeper for them, and at this stage of his career a good last (?) contract.

Newcastle have bought a young keeper from Rennes, so Pope may be off. Don't think he's the answer if KD goes. We'll not get anywhere near what we paid if we sell Perri - everyone knows why we're doing it.
In the end, we might have to fork out for a new keeper.

3.) 09 Jun 2026 13:40:40
So, Amps' contract was announced last week, but no sign of Darlow and Struick contract extensions.

Baz, likelihood rating: they are both leaving 7/10.

4.) 09 Jun 2026 14:39:54
If Leeds and Tottenham are both only offering a backup role, then Tottenham will give better wages and players like to live in London.

5.) 09 Jun 2026 15:13:00
Don't know if footballers are different from ordinary plebs like me, but I'd have to be paid a massive screw to live in London - detest the place.

6.) 09 Jun 2026 17:41:15
There was no sign of Amps signing a contract extension until he did, though, Baz.
The 49's tend to do business a lot more discreetly than we have been used to, which is a good thing, imo.

7.) 09 Jun 2026 20:08:12
I agree, Canada, the 49ers generally do in-house players' contracts business very discreetly.

But, if no new deals are announced by LUFC for Darlow and Struick by 3rd week of June.

..then it would seem very likely indeed both players are open / looking to move to other clubs.

8.) 09 Jun 2026 20:16:44
If Darlow goes, wish we'd go for Fenerbahce Livakovic, Croatia no.1 (think his stock might rise at the WC like it did at the last one too) .

9.) 10 Jun 2026 09:15:57
Great shout, Ekb. For me, if Darlow goes, he goes. It is a lot easier to replace Karl with an equivalent or better than it would be with Anton Stach.

We have to think and trade more like Brighton and Brentford do, and utilise the transfer data to maintain profits and continue to improve the playing squad. No room for sentimentality in the modern game.

10.) 10 Jun 2026 13:29:02
We are talking to Darlow about an extension already. Spuds would likely pay more money than us, but I think Darlow would prioritise playing regularly if he can get that. Not sure we would offer him that though tbh.

11.) 10 Jun 2026 14:43:46
We have to consider more important positions to spend big coin on than gk. Darlow cheap and able. Not great. But able. And better positions to improve.

12.) 10 Jun 2026 14:49:34
Farke was, for him, widely outspoken and publicly critical of Perri's gaffes last season.

..and he clearly preferred Darlow to Perri.

So, I really doubt that Farke would want Perri as his number 1, so Leeds should offer Darlow a 2 year contract as number 1.

13.) 10 Jun 2026 15:10:55
I think the club wants to bring someone else in. Perri was a compromise between 9ers and DF, but neither wanted him as their primary target.

14.) 11 Jun 2026 07:12:49
The offer is on the table to him, so the ball is in his court. I'm not holding my breath; gut feel is he will leave for the wedge.

15.) 12 Jun 2026 17:08:34
It's probably a last move for Darlow, so maybe he will try for a big payday.

29 May 2026 09:28:01
Leeds in talks to bring Georginio Rutter back to the club.

SpicyDave

1.) 29 May 2026 11:37:02
We sold him for £40 million 2 seasons ago.

..Can't believe Brighton would want to sell him for less.

It all seems very unlikely that Gio is coming back to Leeds.

2.) 29 May 2026 11:43:32
His book value at Brighton is now £25m, so anything over goes down as a profit for them.

Plus he's lost his place in the starting team lately.

3.) 29 May 2026 11:59:57
Rumours are rumours. I've seen this one too.
It's a 4/10 on my likelihood scale this summer. ?

4.) 29 May 2026 12:01:56
Brighton are very bad at selling their players for top value. No way on earth would they sell Gio for a mere £25 million.

He has 58 appearances in 2 seasons, so fully involved.

Just 24, with still 3 years more on his contract.

Furthermore, Gio had too much maverick flair on the pitch for Farke whilst at Leeds, it seemed to annoy Farke at times.

Not happening imo.

5.) 29 May 2026 12:05:14
* Very adept.

6.) 29 May 2026 12:11:45
That should read.
Brighton are 'very adept' at selling their players for top value.
(not 'very bad') .

7.) 29 May 2026 15:53:59
Would be a huge improvement on BA in my opinion but can't see us getting him at the price mentioned.

8.) 29 May 2026 20:53:23
Not keen on either myself, as they are very much streaky players, and we need more consistency.
I love watching Rutter, but he drives me mad at times. As talented as he is, I don't see him becoming a top top player.

9.) 29 May 2026 21:23:50
Agree with Corkey. He's not kicked on over the last two seasons and although he still has moments of magic he doesn't do it often enough or contribute enough in other areas. In the Premier League, he's a luxury player we probably can't afford, and don't need.

10.) 30 May 2026 00:01:25
My sources at the club say he's staying, but he has never truly settled. He's a player that likes to be loved, has tried hard, and is universally liked at the club (Danny Welbeck very close, kind to him) . But Fabian Hurzeler is not that type of coach, and is often frustrated that Gio doesn't follow instructions. Tony Bloom loves him, so he's most unlikely to be transferred unless they at least got their money back, but Brighton nearly always sell for significant profit.

Keeper Verbruggen is most likely to leave, his agent touting him around, but Brighton are blessed in the keeper department so it could definitely happen for the right price.

11.) 30 May 2026 09:07:47
Love the guy. One of my favs recently. But I don't think he fits what we need. As above. He is a luxury, non-consistent player we can't afford at the moment.

12.) 30 May 2026 09:09:53
Can't see it. Papers and click baiters are saying we are in for Summerville as well.

Think we've learned over the last 3-4 windows that we do our business quietly,

Can't see the point in signing either as I personally don't think either is any better than when they left us.

28 May 2026 11:28:46
Leeds United are in formal talks with Manchester City goalkeeper James Trafford, and have been for the past couple weeks.

SpicyDave

1.) 28 May 2026 12:25:08
Be flabbergasted.
It won't happen, thankfully.

As we need to spend our transfer budget on goalscoring players, not blow a large wedge of it on expensive gks.

Citeh spent around £30 million transfer fee getting Trafford from Burnley, and they would want that, or probably even more.

Give Darlow a new contract as number 1.

Perri as our number 2 (unless a club comes in with same transfer fee we paid, which is unlikely imo) .

2.) 28 May 2026 12:41:01
Absolutely agree, Baz. £30 m on Trafford compared to a better contract for Darlow, when that would more than buy Elliot or induce Wilson to come, or both.

3.) 28 May 2026 13:30:58
Trafford is absolute miles better than Darlow and is easily worth the money. The club would be idiots to go into the season with Darlow starting - a 35-year-old career backup.

4.) 28 May 2026 13:56:06
Spicy Dave, so Darlow has had a good season, has he not?

If we had an unlimited transfer budget, then sure, spend £30 million plus on a gk.. but we don't.

Much more pressing priorities. Player upgrades needed elsewhere, up top and in midfield.

5.) 28 May 2026 14:09:51
There's absolutely no way we are getting Trafford unless it's a loan deal.

6.) 28 May 2026 14:24:55
I've said, and agree, that whilst we could stand to improve the goalkeeping situation, absolutely, it's not near the top of the urgency list. I'd be content to go with a Darlow/Perri as a lower/mid table pairing. Perri deservedly lost the No.1 jersey, but is good enough to keep Darlow honest if his form markedly drops beyond the odd error.

Crucially, the defense trust Darlow. You can see it with Rodon, Ampadu, Bijol, etc. They know he has it. Not like Meslier, and initially Perri, there were some doubts. Perri looks like an ideal cup keeper (based on level and penalty ability, if not wage) for now, and biding his time.

If the right deal for Trafford came along, I'd 100% jump at it. I can't see it. I can see Newcastle looking to upgrade on Pope/Ramsdale with Trafford, as they so nearly did last summer.

30m makes sense for them. Not for us. We could then have the pick of Ramsdale or Pope if we really wanted them. I wouldn't take Pope.

Ramsdale could be a maybe, if Southampton need to sell a further year removed from optimal parachute payments. I think Newcastle's option was £25m (what Southampton had paid Arsenal) . They can't afford his wages. If this all played out, I might entertain £15m (maybe to £17.5m with escalators) or another opportunistic loan. A year of largely benchwarming means they can't expect his value to have held. They'll want more, in which case I'd be out.

If we did that, we'd have to fail to retain Darlow or sell Perri (the preferred option) .

11 May 2026 12:53:48
Rumours that transfer guru Nick Hammond (who left for Everton last summer) could be returning to the club.

SpicyDave

1.) 11 May 2026 17:53:05
Interesting!

2.) 12 May 2026 12:08:01
Very interesting!
Mebbe he's fallen out with Kinnear?

Farke's punch presser is just down to posturing for a new contract and increased transfer budget, there is zero chance he leaves the club, and the 49ers would rather wait until a few months into next season before discussing a new contract.

SpicyDave

1.) 15 May 2026 16:41:43
If Marathe and Co are indeed going to, as you suggest, wait a few months into next season before even discussing a new contract with Farke.

There is a chance (certainly not 'zero chance') Farke leaves the club in the summer if another club were to come in for him.

2.) 15 May 2026 19:34:43
My hopes going forward are:

Farke stays.
The owners back him regarding team strengthening.
We don't go after impossible targets and waste time.
The owners do everything possible to move unwanted players on.
Lessons have been learned from Radz 2nd and relegation seasons in the Prem.

3.) 15 May 2026 19:56:07
Hear, hear, LUFCfeath, 100%.

4.) 15 May 2026 20:49:56
Absolutely ?, Feath. The owners, who surely are sticking with DF, need to back him fully in the summer with every last bean.
Four bang on points made there, mate, and no need for me to elaborate on them all. Great post.

5.) 15 May 2026 22:09:41
Feath, as always, a good post!
Farke is right, he's achieved his goals that were put in front of him!
Next step, strengthen the team & then let Farke take us into Europe, maybe in 2 years!. ???

6.) 15 May 2026 22:58:01
I've just finished watching today's presser late in the day, I know, because they are normally so boring.
Farke spoke very well, and I'm sure we all agree with the things he said.
What is worrying to me is that there seems to be a massive disconnect between Daniel and the owners?
WTF is going on?
DF hasn't got a clue of the immediate future, which is definitely worrying to me.

There seems to be no plan in place going forward from the owners, at least not involving DF.
All this seems very familiar to last season's end.

7.) 15 May 2026 22:59:57
Spot on Feath.

8.) 15 May 2026 23:56:36
If you are correct about a disconnect, Cork, I am sure the fans will let the owners know their feelings about it on Sunday.

9.) 16 May 2026 01:43:01
Farke has to go. Alf has already stated the owners are happy to survive again next season, so their ambition and pockets clearly don't match Farke's.
Good to buy quality early, and hopefully get a manager upgrade.

10.) 16 May 2026 07:30:13
I don't know if there is or isn't a disconnect between DF and the owners, because they've been pretty tight-lipped for a while now, probably waiting til this season is all done and dusted. We've heard before that getting to the upper reaches of the PL would be a multi-year project, and they need to think that having Farke as head coach will keep us moving them in that direction.

For his part, DF needs to think he has their backing (financial and otherwise) to keep leading the project, hence comments at the press conference. Only time will tell how far we can go under his leadership, but for now at least I neither want nor expect any change for the coming season. Beyond that we'll all just have to wait and see.

11.) 16 May 2026 07:32:50
Which 'other clubs' would these be, Baz? I hardly see a clamour for his signature.

12.) 16 May 2026 08:16:17
I wouldn't look too much into this, as Feath said it was just Farke announcing to the media and the public what the 49ers probably already know and have more than likely had conversations about.
Farke wants to reaffirm his position, as he has completed his objective of the very difficult task of keeping Leeds United in the Premiership in his first season.

I think most Leeds fans will feel Farke has earned the right to a new contract, but like last summer, there will be a certain section of Leeds fans who will want to see him leave.

This will, of course, trigger the clickbait journos and dubious content creators to kick up another story that the 49ers are considering to sack him, etc. etc.

Farke just wants to get his contract sorted tout de suite and prevent all this meaningless hot air that will potentially rise from the gutter again.

13.) 16 May 2026 09:14:19
Far too early for discussions around manager or future signings. We have two very important, and thanks to the lads and Farkey, stress-free games to enjoy before season end.

As Leeds United supporters, when have we had such a relaxed end to a season? Enjoy the ride. Lots of time for sorting the other stuff after the season ends.

14.) 16 May 2026 12:47:44
Careful what you wish for, Aussie Osborne, re a manager upgrade with our owners.

You might get a Stevie G or Russell Martin?

15.) 16 May 2026 12:52:51
True Alf, there has never really been a clamour for Farke, but he has had possibly his best season as a manager/coach.

It therefore wouldn't surprise me at all if his agent had very recently received some interest in Farke from a Bundesliga club, a league in which he has managed before.

16.) 16 May 2026 12:56:29
Not sure it's ever too early for discussions on future players, and, better still, make early signings, Class.

Indeed, little old Brentford, a club far superior currently to Leeds in recruitment, have already made their first new player signing of the summer yesterday.

They get in early signings virtually every window.

No, as we'll be fluid between formations.

And, we can sign players that would suit both a 3-5-2 and a 4-3-3 (eg. wingers that can play centrally like Okafor) , or centre-mids that fit in either.

Absolutely zero chance Sheff U are looking for more than about £8m for Hamer. He turns 29 next month, with only 27 Champ starts, he's not the same player as a couple of years back.
