Maybe a tad harsh from Staffs, but only a tad.
Hull gave Chelsea's billion-pound squad a right good scare, and could have won. Whereas Leeds United folded like a deck of cards, getting thrashed by Chelsea.
Hull have been very impressive so far, and those predicting them to accumulate a record low EPL points total have clearly misjudged them.
It's very bad news for some other EPL teams, including Leeds United, if not only Hull, but Ipswich too, have strong seasons and stay up.

There's a long season to go yet, and Hull will probably get found out eventually, but if they don't, it won't really surprise me. Blades have done it with Wilder, and us with Marcelo in the first season up.
The sad part is, though, when you do get found out, you drop like a stone.

I'm not sure it's very bad news for us if Hull and/or Ipswich stay up.
If we're good enough, we'll stay up. If we go down, it'll be because we deserve to go down. Good on 'em if they manage to stay up (hopefully not at our expense) .
I think Coventry are for the drop. Palace and Fulham look poor. Fulham have lost two six-pointers already vs. Palace and Sunderland. Sunderland have had an alright start (Ipswich defeat was poor, Brentford point excellent) . They and Palace have Europe starting soon, which will be hard to juggle if they get sucked in.
Palace already have Henderson and Disasi at least injured and suspended when they face us.
Any more defensive issues from Europe on Thursday, and they'll start to look thin. An excellent chance, irrespective of the Newcastle score, for us to put some distance between us and Palace.
Ipswich have looked competitive in all their games for £171m they ought to. Hull had a similar, very vibe-y start under Phil Brown, beating Spurs and Arsenal back in the day and survived by the skin of their teeth that year. Not saying it'll happen the same way, but maybe they'll be 'found out'.
We've had a very solid start. Keep it up and we'll be fine.

If we're good enough to stay up, then we will, irrespective of what others are doing. Personally I think it's great that (most) of the promoted teams are bloodying some noses. It would be great if all three stay up and we get some real fresh blood in the EPL.
We seem to have another weird EPL developing, with established teams, like Villa and Spurs not playing to expectation.

What I do think is that, though we might be ok if our first three games are anything to go by, I think the league will be tight in terms of points. We could be 14th and only 6-7 points clear again. I think the way that Hull and Ipswich have come out of the blocks says they're going to at least fight.
I predict Fulham to be this year's West Ham - the established team that sinks quite far.
They've staked their survival on Arbeloa and signings like Palacios, Garcia, Charles, Affengruber and Larsson. It's a big unknown because none of them have prem experience. Not a negative, necessarily, just an unknown.
Remarkably, according to Transfermarkt, our net transfer spend is lower than Fulham's for this window. And yet they feel like a much weaker team.

Villa and Newcastle also have had the hearts of their teams ripped out this summer, and may struggle this season. Villa especially have also got to fit in at least 6 Champions League fixtures with their depleted squad, and are my tip for an established team that may flirt with relegation.

Regarding Newcastle and Villa.
I think Newcastle will be fine. Howe did well with Newcastle but it looks like they either bought the wrong players for his system or he forced the wrong system on the players he told them he wanted. Look at Elanga and Wissa. Reborn, using their pace for counter-attacking. Pardo will be interesting as a new forward. They have a youngish squad that will probably get better with enough knowhow from Elanga, Wissa, Schar, Botman, Hall etc. Either Jaissle happens to play this system or is just fluid enough to play to the squad's strengths based on early evidence. Either way, fair enough.
Villa bought well, but arguably not enough. They have Maatsen out for what sounds like a long time according to Emery.
Pau Torres' hamstring went, Grade remains to be seen. Cash was absent with a minor knock. But it means Mings is back as a starting cb for a while right now. He's past his best by a ways now. Their back line still looks competent, but no depth if there's one more injury. If it's a bad hamstring for Torres, they'll struggle. In midfield and forward areas they seem fairly stocked. Manzambi is an excellent young player to replace Rogers, Mbaye could be. Jackson is a marginal downgrade on Watkins. The new keeper looks pretty decent. They have Joao Gomes and Goreztka integrating to solidify that midfield in the absence of Onana. Weaker than last year, but still around 12-14th I reckon.

Villa have lost Martinez, Digne, Konsa, Tielemans, Rogers and Watkins, all top internationals. Torres and Onana may both be out for months, Maatsen a bit less, Mings is past his best now, and Jackson is nowhere near as good as Watkins imo. The new keeper is Ok, and Manzambi looks promising, but what with the additional demands of Champions League football, I think they may really struggle.
Newcastle are not as badly off, but with Guimaraes, Tonali, Gordon and Woltemade gone, their engine room is much depleted. The improved form of Wissa and Elanga gives them some hope, but I see them as mid table at best.

Dan James and Harrison should go, but we'd have to take a hit in buying out part of their contracts. DJ has 3 years, and JH has 2 years.
Nmecha has one year left, so a decision to make.
All of the others out of contract, such as Mez and Byram, are gone.

In January 2023 transfer window, Jackie was at Leicester City having a medical for a £25 million transfer.
. when our owners Radz, and specifically Paraag and Co, suddenly pulled out of the deal.
Thereafter Uncle Victor Orta and Co at Leeds United immediately presented Jackie with a 5 year deal to 2028.
So he still has 2 more years of the 5 year deal (spent 2 years on loan at Everton and one year on loan in Italy) .

I don't think there will be a lot of business early on, because.
a) until June 30th, players are still fighting and hoping for new contracts with their clubs.
b) There's a World Cup on, with lots of players in the shop window.
Who knows? But I think this summer will be a slow burner early on.
Notwithstanding that, there are some big relegation casualties this season, e.g. Leicester & West Ham, who will need to be offloading a lot of players. Also, lots of new managers all over the EPL looking to bring "their" players in.

Correction, OP.
It was a huge error by our current owners, Paraag and Co (not previous owner Radz) .
It was entirely their decision to stop JH being sold.
Paraag and Co were calling the shots at ER by then in Jan 2023 (Rutter and McKennie were Paraag and Co Jan 23 signings) , what with their impending purchase buyout of Radz share of Leeds United a few months later.

The 49ers may or may not have been calling the shots at that period, for which there appears to be no evidence. What is absolutely conclusive is that it was Jesse Marsch's insistence that Harrison was given a new contract.
What makes it highly unlikely that the 49ers were in control is that they would not have given him such a long contract, which was a trait typical of Radz and Victor.

Brenty was always merely a mouthpiece for the 49ers, OP. nowt else. we all know that.
It was well documented that it was solely the 49ers' decision to keep Harrison, not sell to Leicester on the 31st January 2023 transfer window deadline.
As for Brenty, he had zero influence by then, he was on his way out and was sacked 6 days later, on Feb 6th 2023.
As for Harrison, the contract extension was granted in April 2023. almost 3 months after Brenty had been sacked and had left the club. an ownership decision.

There's no detail to his thoughts, but he's letting the fans and the football media know that he wants to continue and push the club forward with a very clear directive and a plan of how the 49ers and he can advance with positivity.
This is not a message to the 49ers, I'm pretty sure they are both equally ambitious and are aligned in their visions.
This is a message to us that he is the coach to take us forward, and that this survival season is not the final limit to his ambitions and capabilities.

I tend to read between the lines in these outspoken interviews. I would find it almost inconceivable that the most important man at Leeds United is unable to have a private conversation about himself and plans for the proceeding season with the owners of the club.
For me he's using his leverage to get everyone on his side and have no one doubting about his future at the club, like at the end of the last season where he was, in my opinion, disgracefully let out to hang dry by many supporters of the club, especially after winning the title and gaining promotion to the Premiership.
He's just giving himself a much stronger position, which, as I said before, is a very smart thing to do because this time round fans don't want him to leave!

Well, on the face of it, Aus, he's done better and is better than most of the candidates folks were screaming for. I seem to remember a few saying we would be 100% relegated if we didn't get Nuno, Potter, Dyche amongst others when they became available (sacked for not doing very well) .
Given the resources at his disposal, he's done brilliantly. We've lost one away game since November, and we were unlucky to lose that one. Aside from Arsenal, we been every game in 2026.
