Leeds United to finally sell Illan Meslier in January?

Despite his woeful form in between the sticks, having the eighth-worst save percentage in the Championship this season, he continues to be linked with a move away.

Now, according to Steve Kay [via TBR Football], Arsenal are weighing up a move for the Frenchman ahead of the January window and are “keeping an eye on” the player.

Stade Rennais are also understood to be interested in the 24-year-old shot-stopper [Jeunesfooteux] and if Leeds are serious about securing promotion, this is a position which needs to be addressed this term.

It’s not just Baz, George, Aus and a few others on here that think Meslier is a liability, it’s becoming national news and in all fairness the trio above have been saying it long enough and while I’ve been in denial for all this time about Meslier and standing in his corner I really have to agree with the lads on this one.
It’s time he went because it’s only a matter of time before he drops another bollock! ?‍♂️?.

Woodster67

1.) 18 Dec 2024 20:26:17
And in the meantime Mes needs dropping.

2.) 18 Dec 2024 20:26:46
Farke OUT if he picks Mes.

3.) 20 Dec 2024 09:43:48
But you gave him until the end of the season Baz? Moving your own goal posts again?

4.) 20 Dec 2024 11:08:51
Bright
Yes but the Preston game was tipping point for me . along with previous games of dropped points due to Mes

Farke now needs ousting if he intends to stubbornly and foolishly stick with gash Mes.

5.) 20 Dec 2024 17:36:16
Yes…. but…….

6.) 20 Dec 2024 18:15:37
Yes but. what?
Sounds like a Farkey touchline coaching instruction.

7.) 26 Dec 2024 09:25:42
Baz stick with Mess, new keeper now will not be any batter.

10 Dec 2024 00:24:35
Just for Baz………

According to a report from Jeunes Footeux, French club Stade Rennais are eyeing a move to sign Leeds goalkeeper Illan Meslier in the January transfer window.

Jorge Sampaoli is looking to bring in a new goalkeeper in January, and there is a possibility that Meslier could leave Elland Road.

Happy days eh Baz? but who on earth would we get to replace him that’s the question! ?‍♂️?‍♂️.

Woodster67

1.) 10 Dec 2024 01:17:59
Mid season 1st choice gk sale? Hmm sadly very unlikely

Woody Woodster surely you put little to zero credence on this.

I do predict though that Leeds United will bring in a new number one gk next summer esp if we get promoted (and seek to offload Le Mes with just 1 year remaining on his contract) .

Cheers
Sir Nostra Baz.

2.) 10 Dec 2024 04:26:11
Woody A social media content creator (all of whom OP despises even if they are praising Leeds) suggests Jason Steele.

3.) 10 Dec 2024 04:32:38
aha Woody . re Mes

KG TV reporting that Meslier is currently a mediocre 13th in Champo this season in save per shots just 67.5% ( similar to last season ) .

Collins of Sheff U and Trafford of Burnley 1st and 2nd

Sooooo YES fingers crossed then he goes in Jan rather than next summer .

POTENTIAL REPLACEMENTS of Meslier :
martin dubravka on loan from Newcastle,

Dan Bentley on loan from Wolves

or best choice of all; very good at all aspects of gk Jason Steele from Brighton

all mooted as potential replacements!

4.) 10 Dec 2024 12:23:04
Despite OP not being involved in this thread, he gets an honourable mention; fair play to him for sticking in people’s minds! Content creators as they seem to be labelled, are only in it for themselves. They will say whatever it takes to get views, as that is how they make their money. Whether that is done thro causing controversy, making people angry, happy, or sad. I’m assuming that this would be why OP, and others, are sceptical of whatever they say.
Personally, they all do my head in at certain points, but also can provide entertainment. They are click bait personified. I believe them less than I do the YEP!

5.) 10 Dec 2024 14:08:51
Definitely not Brighteth with Kagey. he NEVER says what it takes to get views. always keeps it real, logical, authentic. so blooming refreshing!

Some of the other content creators you may have a point.

6.) 10 Dec 2024 15:23:19
What Baz says.

The automatic dismissal of content creators egregious error.

Fair enough Baz, good points made by you and Aus and I understand your opinion, I also understand why DF picks Meslier, he really doesn’t have many other options, damned if you do pick him damned if you don’t pick him! OP makes a good point about our no show in the first half and about the whole team are to blame for switching off, so yes it is easy to blame one person but i understand why we have because in essence Meslier let them back into the game!
We need a new found confidence at the back, we need a new keeper, also we missed Struik yesterday, his leadership at the back leaves us short when he’s missing ☹️.

Woodster67

1.) 05 Jan 2025 11:01:37
Confidence, is huge in a team.

Clearly Illan will be at rock bottom confidence wise, you’re spot on with regard’s Struick too Woody, as much for his leadership and strength in the air it would have released Amps to better shield the midfield.

But in reality it was down to three very basic errors from our young keeper but I believe these are fundamental flaws young Illan has never rectified. The first goal no need to come out like that the second goal he could leave it alone, the third, just watch his footwork and positioning on the corner, he’s nowhere near making the punch is then miles out of position and again his first instinct is to save with his feet and not his hands.

The Leeds commentators said Rodon immediately said “what are you doing”? Before storming down the tunnel at the end. Now, if our own defence cannot trust our keeper confidence is only going to go one way.

Farke tried to boost Illans confidence by making him a one of his leadership team, you cannot fault the intent, but now Farke has to stand up and be a decisive leader as ever opponent will target our young keeper for obvious reasons.

Palmer from WBA or Pears from Blackburn get this team promoted, but after yesterday’s game Ilan is ranked 18th in goalkeeping in the Championship.

You cannot defend the indefensible.

2.) 05 Jan 2025 11:03:27
Yes Woody

We definitely missed the presence and aasuredness of PS in defence yesterday.

PS is definitely our best defender

Wayy prefer Ampadu in midfield not in central defence.

3.) 05 Jan 2025 11:03:36
Agree woody struijk was a huge miss.

I’m a big support or of mes but he has to go. Great keeper but the fans have turned against him and hemisphere head has gone. I think we need to sell and replace for a lesser but more reliable keeper like Neil Sullivan type.

Same with bamford fans against him and he needs to go. A lot of football is played in the head and confidence is a huge part. I think bam bam and nes will do well at new clubs.

Sadly mes is giving people like baz and aus a chance to make them right and delight in his poor form, but then form is temporary class is perminant.

4.) 05 Jan 2025 11:18:29
Top post Class.

5.) 05 Jan 2025 11:18:29
Top post Class.

6.) 05 Jan 2025 11:21:37
Yes Berma we do indeed need a " more reliable" gk

The penny has finally dropped for yer.

7.) 05 Jan 2025 12:56:57
Berm. Was waiting for you to show your face.
The said players and manager are crap.
For you to think any different says a lot about you. Not us.
Class is permanent is hilarious.
Get rid of all you mention and gel. I guarantee they will never be heard of again. Leeds was their defining moment and they all failed miserably.

8.) 05 Jan 2025 13:18:59
Aus, the manager is far far from crap! That’s just a summary statement too far beyond being a sweeping one!

9.) 05 Jan 2025 14:19:13
Berm ????.

10.) 05 Jan 2025 16:42:58
Aus baz and George

The fact you were waiting for my posts/ reviling in the current leeds situation etc or at least enjoying kicking a young man while he is down says everything about you as men and leeds fan

See you all later lads. I’ll be back end of season when we are promoted to rub it in some so called peoples faces

Good luck and all the best fellows and Ed’s.

11.) 05 Jan 2025 17:54:27
It does say everything about them Bermo; everything that has already been said in many different ways, thro many different and varied posts of theirs, and highlighted by many on this forum, time and time again.

It’s a damned shame that they choose to revel in the downfall of our own Keeper, and of a young man who must be in a very dark place right now, and use it to profess a knowledge of a game that, to date, they have only shown a total lack of knowledge, understanding and appreciation of.
#Shame #KeepitReal #Embarrasing.

12.) 05 Jan 2025 19:46:49
Well said bright it only takes a few to ruin it for all I’m logging off now see you all end of season when we are promoted

Life is too hard to have to choose to put up with people like that on a forum I’d rather leave

All the best all I wish you all a great 2025.

13.) 06 Jan 2025 10:13:19
To respond to Class’s post before dragged through the dirt by those two plonkers, I wanted to retort to your comment about Meslier running out to unsuccessfully on this occasion to the edge of the box to confront the Hull player, I’ve seen Meslier do this quite a few times in his time with us and has blocked the attackers advance. This is the first time I’ve seen him do this and concede a goal. In my opinion he has saved far more potential goals than not.

I don’t doubt the question that maybe his confidence is not in top form at this moment in time but I don’t accept that he is a rubbish keeper. You can’t sit on the top of the league with a rubbish keeper, that is surely undeniable.

By the way keepers and defenders are always arguing with each other, if they weren’t I’d be concerned.

05 Jan 2025 08:58:45
Baz, while I agree with your feelings regarding Meslier and as I said in earlier posts, you were correct with your Meslier feelings, but please tell me why his mistakes are now ‘DF will be sacked if he fluffs promotion’ and you now have less confidence in Marathe and Co?
Meslier cocked up and I for one don’t want him to play anymore, but that doesn’t mean DF is going to fail nor our owners! Why do you always extend the doom mate, like I said you were right regarding Meslier so just leave it at that, don’t start rubbing more of the might be’s in our faces.
We have progressed so far as a club in the last 7 years and yes that includes 2 seasons in the Championship of which we are still top, we are competing regardless of Meslier and we are as a club going forward. Extension plans, money to spend, playing within the PSR rules and good players coming through, so why find problems that aren’t there?
A draw yesterday and looking at the players faces you would of thought they had lost, not that long ago that’s all we wanted was players that care and have desire, we have that, did you see DF’s face?, he was devastated and that’s all we want, desire from the manager to the lads, we have that, we have the owners and backers, a few tweaks here and there and we are up, then we can get ready for the prem.
One man’s mistakes don’t make a season nor tell the full story, heads up! ALAW ??.

Woodster67

1.) 05 Jan 2025 09:32:34
Sorry Woodster. It’s not a one off mistake. It’s been all season. Glaring first shot mistakes that has cost us many points. Damn right Farke is to blame as he keeps and will keep picking him. If he drops nez next league game then give him bit more time. If not, both gone please.

2.) 05 Jan 2025 09:40:24
Woody: imo not going up last season cannot be viewed as a " success"

Leeds could/ should be at very least 6 to 8 points ahead in 1st this season with even an aversge competent gk. Leeds threw away points vs Hull, Sunderland etc

As I said to you Woody, imo its likely DF will still pick Calamity Mes (for rest of season) . and then what Woody?

As for extension plans only happening IF we go up

Are we going up Woody with cooked Mes still being picked in goal still by Farkey? ?.

3.) 05 Jan 2025 10:04:17
last season definitely was NOT success, success is achieving what you set out to do. if we set out to avoid relegation from the champo then it could be classed as success, the only time success is achieved without winning anything is for example is the likes of fulham, bournemouth, brentford finishing 11th,12th etc in the EPL every year, for those clubs i guess you could call it success, and right now i would swap.

4.) 05 Jan 2025 10:05:06
Farkey had a bad ingame mgt match; the players were off it in 1st half esp

BUT bottom 3 Hull, one of lowest scorers in league do NOT score at all with a competent Leeds gk

Mes at fault in ALL 3 goals

Goal 1 needlssly out of his penalty area making it so easy to lob over and score . easiest finish

Goal 2 failed to put ball oug fofba corner over bar

Goal 3 coming for a cross nowhere near it as usual. then as a result got back but not in central position in goal so letting in a very tame shot. easy save to make.

5.) 05 Jan 2025 10:07:07
I agree Mez is not good enough, and I have said that for a long time now. The goals scored against us at his near post, the Sunderland goal and yesterday of course have cost us 6-8 points. I also have no confidence in his positioning and lack of command in the box, our defenders must squirm everytime a cross comes in.
However I don't feel we have an alternative on the bench, so to address this we need to buy in Jan, and this is the point we don't know about. Will the board give the money fora keeper that may not be the one they really want in readiness for when we go up? I don't believe Farke has much of a choice, so stuck in the middle at the moment, because if he picks from the current reserve keepres and the fail, the its Farkes fault again.
Only 1 solution for me, buy another quality keeper now or, it pains me to say this stick with Mes until season end in the hope our defence can make up for his frailtys.

6.) 05 Jan 2025 10:14:34
seeing that our recent jan transfer window in the last couple of years has been to say somewhat "poor" does anyone one know if David Harvey, john Lukic or nigel martyn are available to come out of retirement .

7.) 05 Jan 2025 10:55:00
Very well said and good suggestion Revie the Great

Actually Super Leeds goalkeeping Legend is still a wicketkeeper for his local Village cricket team.

He is therefore evidently still in good enough shape and fitness.

8.) 05 Jan 2025 10:55:51
Rachubka is free??.

9.) 05 Jan 2025 10:57:48
. and seem to recall Super Leeds goalkeeping Legend Sir David Harvey had his own farm

So therefore he definitely still in great shape.

10.) 05 Jan 2025 11:06:39
* Nigel Martyn that is re still keeping wicker.

11.) 05 Jan 2025 12:16:55
you could be right Baz.
by the way, do anyone know what the fifa rules are for different playing formations. because i'm thinking 2 up front, 3 in midfield, 3 at the back and 3 in goal.!

12.) 05 Jan 2025 13:25:46
Your summary of all but goal 2, are well wide of the mark, and atypical of someone trying to elevate themselves from a position of lacking knowledge!
The defence was off its game yesterday, as was everybody in H1; the players did not show enough respect to fellow professionals.
The absence of Pasc, who you were belittling as not worth £20m just a day ago, is now our best defender, was sorely missed yesterday.

13.) 05 Jan 2025 14:04:52
Psscal is our best defender but not sure he is worth £20 million, we shall see

My summary of all 3 goals are very similar to Class later summary of goals too above. ?

Not that I give your opinion any credence whatsoeve Bright anyways?.

14.) 05 Jan 2025 14:21:07
Pascal is worth £20M minimum.

15.) 05 Jan 2025 14:34:40
Pascal is worth what someone will pay.

AO. cost £2 million. Amps £ 7 million. Rodon cost £10 million .

Pascal £12 million aimo.

16.) 05 Jan 2025 16:56:51
Baz Ao cost in the region of £3.3M.

17.) 05 Jan 2025 17:59:54
That’s fine by me Baz. Particularly based on your complete lack of knowledge of the game anyway, I would expect you to discount most things that make sense, or contain anything remotely positive with regards to evaluation of performance, coaching, or tactics.

18.) 05 Jan 2025 18:53:49
As I said Brighteth, Class wrote pretty much exactly same description of Mes faults for each goal.

04 Jan 2025 20:10:49
Can’t Alex Cairns play for us for now?, DF raves about him. Oh and PB has a hamstring injury just for a change!

Woodster67

1.) 04 Jan 2025 20:18:59
Woody Did Bambi pull it while combing his hair or was he podcasting?

2.) 04 Jan 2025 20:22:21
Play Cairns or Darlow .

In meantime sign a better gk Jason Steele etc in Jan window

Urgent time for LUFC owners recruitment team to upgrade gks.

3.) 04 Jan 2025 20:32:23
What about Loris Karius?, free agent and DF knows him very well, could be something in this rumour ?.

4.) 05 Jan 2025 06:52:16
What about Mr blobby.

04 Jan 2025 20:09:54
Ok lads, we’ve all had our say, we all have our views, so reference Meslier, who would you like to sign and replace him, sensible answers only, Dill would of had replacements lined up already! It would be interesting whose name comes forward.
For me, I would go for a keeper with promotion to the Premier League in mind. So a loan with obligation to buy from either a Premier League team or just outright buy from a European team. As long as he’s an upgrade I don’t care, as long as he’s good. ?.

Woodster67

1.) 04 Jan 2025 20:21:23
Viktor Johansson.

2.) 04 Jan 2025 20:24:43
Jason Steele Brighton.

3.) 04 Jan 2025 21:34:56
Jason Steele a good call Baz ? I don’t think Viktor will be allowed to leave and not really a prem keeper.

4.) 04 Jan 2025 22:14:07
Steele's a good shout Baz.

Johnstone from Wolves (although Spurs are supposed to be interested in him) .

Outside shot - the lad from Derby. Been impressed with him in both games against us.

5.) 04 Jan 2025 22:39:47
Good call that Cleggy the lad from Derby, I noticed how good he was against us as well, but saying that they all play well against Leeds United, even if Meslier played for another team against us he would have an outstanding game and get MOT, sure as eggs are eggs mate! ??.

6.) 04 Jan 2025 22:50:11
Woody Another useful point in this is this. Apart from it being in a transfer window, if GK you target questions whether he will be number one, you pull out amazing corroborative televisual evidence.

You show him injury time at Sunderland and 81st minute at Hull.

Then you say you'll be our number 1. Do you believe us now?!

7.) 05 Jan 2025 00:11:34
Good one George and I totally agree, ?.

04 Jan 2025 17:31:40
Well lads, you all know I speak my mind and I never gloss over anything, and I have been very vocal about Baz and George regarding their comments regarding Meslier, well today it pains me to say it but they are right as are others on here who have agreed with them, Meslier is a liability, he has and is still costing us points.
There is no argument anymore, we need a new keeper end of. All of this is in my own opinion and although there a lot I don’t agree with how Baz goes about stuff, he has been right about Meslier from day one. Today was the day I’ve had enough of him,

Woodster67

1.) 04 Jan 2025 17:49:40
Think you've summed it up very well there Woodster.

2.) 04 Jan 2025 17:56:02
Oh My God, I’ve just watched the highlights reel and he’s at fault for pretty much all three goals. Gave them the first two and simply gash for their third.

I’m still fuming about the Sunderland game, but the first two he gifted Hull would seriously question whether a large deposit has been made into his bank account. Awful keeping.

3.) 04 Jan 2025 17:57:54
I am still fuming Woody.

4.) 04 Jan 2025 17:59:51
Woodster67, no we are all negative don’t know what we are talking about, should be happy with a point and all the other utter rubbish they post, it’s been there for all to see but they choose not to but to post bull ? because it’s easy, Baz and George have take a lot of stick for standing by what they post good for them to stand there ground, now it’s there for themto see but I bet you this they will post the same old crap as they always do. Woodster67 your post is spot on mate weel done.

5.) 04 Jan 2025 18:17:20
Baz, while I now see the negative worth of Meslier and I now agree with what you have posted about him, I really don’t agree with the Farke out bit!
DF can not be held responsible for school boy goalkeeping, not in your wildest nightmares as a manager could you of expected a professional keeper to be so far wrong with their first goal never mind the shambolic and laughable second.
DF can only work with what he’s got and to be fair non of us rate Darlow which makes me wonder why we bought him. Angus Kinnear and those around him are responsible for recruitment not DF, yes he can make a list but rarely is it that straight forward at Leeds United. I just don’t see how it is DF’s fault when Meslier is guilt of that buffoonery.
So yes we dropped points again because of Meslier, we would of definitely been another 4 points clear at the top (Sunderland and Hull City) if Meslier wasn’t a numpty, but leave DF out of it Baz, even you in your stubborn mind must know it’s not his fault.
Meslier out Farke in. Simples, onwards and upwards ??.

6.) 04 Jan 2025 18:29:09
Good point MG, I wonder how much he got for that eh? If I constantly kept making bad mistakes like that at work I would be fired on the spot for Gross Misconduct, no doubt he will still get his full pay and if anybody was interested in signing him then that’s that out of the window.
The commentary said the pitch looked like a vegetable patch, hence the cabbage that was in goal for us eh!
Good points, AO first goal for us was spectacular and now we have a goal from midfield so that’s that ticked and done.
Rothwell never stops as Aaronson does but the later needs to get a tad more lively going into tackles as he keeps getting caught.
Ampado, Rodon, Bogle ok, Wober not.
Piroe looked more interested and DJ while a bit wasteful is always a must on that pitch.
I did think it was a game made for Gnonto and Ramazani to come on as they were tired, at 3-1 up, they should of come on and DF should of brought GMan on for Rothwell.
2 points dropped, but we didn’t lose, we are still top going into a break for the FA Cup so all in essence all good ? DF stays Baz ??.

7.) 04 Jan 2025 19:39:23
Woody

Problem is Farke will continue playing Calamity Mes . huge problem

Farkey out therefore.

You are so right Brighty, this is what we are up against which is why we should have had this put to bed ages ago.
